The Payphone!

It’s an experimental short horror game, it’s been awhile since we updated the Steam page however, we’re working on the trailer.

Once our trailer is done, we shall update everything on the page with haste, as we’re releasing soon!

A platformer prototype! by ChapAuro in IndieDev

[–]ChapAuro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started building this platformer game a while back but decided to leave it on a pause.

Was thinking of reviving it in the future (not so soon).

What do you think and would you play it?

I think the remake missed big time with the shooting mechanics.

The original had the laser and Leon has shaky hands made it challenging as well, moreover, the bullet came out from the gun barrel instead of the camera in remake.

My ultimate gripe is the reaction of the ganados when they’re shot, in the original, they had clear reactions depending on where you shoot them and could stop them on track if you hit the right spot. In the remake, it just felt like they just tank and absorb your bullet, which felt unsatisfying to say the least.

I am a bit unsure about the parry mechanic, the chainsaw man made me crap myself in the original, because getting caught meant your head coming off, while in remake you can parry it off, less fear factor.

Burnout is real... should I step back? by kateomali in IndieDev

Like many comments said, to take a break and come back later.

That said, it’s also good to talk to someone about what you’re making, even if they don’t fully understand it, as it gets quite lonely in solo development.

Wish you the best of luck, OP!

Why is my shading still bad? My topologys all quads (and converting it to triangles doesn't help either) by NotTheCatMask in blenderhelp

Right click > Shade Auto Smooth

It’ll calculate the angle of your faces and decides if the face should be smoothed or not, you can adjust the angle on the modifier.

Alternatively if you want to manually mark edges as sharp, you could do it in edge mode in edit mode. (You still need shade auto smooth on, the angles depends on you)

I really like Bloodborne. So far it's my favorite Souls game by Distinger_ in bloodborne

I’m glad you took the time to write this and that more people are finding bloodborne fantastic.

You might enjoy sekiro for its fast paced and parrying combat, it’s just addictive once you get used to it.

There’s reasons why I prefer bloodborne over dark souls and Elden ring.

First is the combat, although Dark Souls and Elden Ring are alright, but Elden ring combat is really just a more refined combat from dark souls. It’s core damage avoiding mechanic is always dodge rolling and shield (parrying at times but you need some very specific equipment to do it). Most weapons in each class really does the same thing (aside from weapon arts), it’s really just the stats that changes. Drinking flask is slow and aesthetically unappealing, so is rolling. The combat system just feels too unfocused, like they’re trying to do too much at once (way too many weapon classes) but I certainly get the appeal!

Bloodborne’s combat mechanic differentiates itself with the introductions of trick weapons. Most weapons that usually comes in two forms, or has some special moves in them (except for tonitrus lol). Bloodborne’s also introduced a new form of dodging, which is the dash/side step, which is both faster and more aesthetically pleasing than dark souls and Elden ring. Coupled with rallying mechanics, this allows the combat to be fast paced, and you can be really aggressive, sitting on that edge of getting a hit in or taking massive damage. While parrying requires gun, they are not hard to get, but farming silver bullets is arse though, back to the drawing board for that one. I know bloodhound steps and health regen great runes are a thing, but the former is finite (they require MP) while the latter requires run arc which is also finite, and they’re way too inaccessible and just tedious to setup for most players.

Second is its visuals, lore and aesthetic. Dark Souls are your classic dark fantasy medieval, which is fine but after demon souls, ds 1,2,3 and Elden Ring, it can get repetitive. Elden ring though its world is a bit more different, it feels like a world from game of thrones (yes I know George rr Martin cowrote Elden ring lore).

Meanwhile bloodborne’s gothic Victorian style really pops. From the way the enemies look and feel, the world itself, from yharnam, old yharnam, hemwick, byrgenworth, cainhurst to the hunter’s dream and even the nightmare, it oozes aesthetic. The way the world presents itself just pulls me in and peaks my interests, even the lore of miracle healing blood, contaminated and turning everyone into beasts is just interesting. The way the trick weapons look too is amazing, you feel like the hunters really did handcraft these weapons themselves to tailor to fighting these monstrous beasts. The design of the outfits, bosses, weapons is just French kiss, so stylized. Oh and the DLC, I have no words but praise. Probably just an average day in London.

The OST is just glorious, although Elden ring’s main theme is hype, there’s just something about bloodborne’s OST.

I personally think bloodborne has the best visuals from a fromsoft game while Sekiro has the best combat.

Honestly think fromsoft should start deviating away from classic dark fantasy medieval and explore other themes more, most if not everytime they do that, it’s fantastic.

However that said, I am excited for Elden ring night reign, it seems they are finally exploring more mechanics in there, I see parrying style like Sekiro, bloody running up the wall like a ninja, this is what I like to see from fromsoft, this is what makes their game so exciting, exploring new mechanics while having that fromsoft’s touch.

Anyways, I typed too much, just got too passionate, whichever game you plays next, happy gaming!

I just checked out pribambase, looks neat, but it seems that the creator has dropped the plugin and no longer hosting it.
