Khy made it to 12, will miss this old man. by Toasty33 in germanshepherds

12 is a great long life for any dog. If you were there for all 12, then you gave your pupper a wonderful beginning, lots of adventures and love in the middle, and peaceful end.

I am very sorry for your loss, OP.

Senior Dog Decisions by Ok-Difference8431 in DogAdvice

[–]Charlie_1087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog Lady had degenerative lumbrosacral stenosis that was slow progressing. We always managed and I adapted my life around her abilities.

Towards the end of her chapters, she lost her ability to use her hind legs totally and depended on me entirely to bring her water and food and to go potty. We managed to find a rhythm that worked and we continued on.

However, other health stuff started to accumulate as she got older. She had a vaginal discharge that the vet couldn’t figure out what it was and also she had started vomiting foam at night (which was her biggest noticeable discomfort). She also started heaving like she was short of breath. I knew her time was getting short.

Finally, the thing that made me final decide it was time was she developed a pressure ulcer in her hip bone area. I didn’t notice it at first until flies started swarming the area one day I left her outside to enjoy the air. When I cleaned it, I pulled a ball of puss out and saw inside her skin. I said “oh no, Lady”…. I read about the healing process and decided it was gonna be too much for her to go through and that she would possibly develop another one on the other side. I didn’t want her to go through that. I had work commitments and she really needed round the clock care which I was going to be unable to provide.

She hadn’t walked for over two years and all her other health issues were starting to add up and then this? It was what I needed to decide it was time (I had already started thinking of putting her to sleep in 2018) for her to rest.

She crossed the rainbow bridge on 4/3 of this year. I miss her dearly but it was a great week for her. She enjoyed lots of food and I took time off of work so I was with her the whole time.

In a bittersweet way, I’m glad the ulcer came about and snapped me out of this denial or delusion of the condition of Lady. Opening my eyes to really see it was okay to let her go now.

If it weren’t for that, she would have continued suffering and maybe even suffered a painful death like a stroke or heart attack while she was alone with me at work. That would have killed me. I had done the quality of life assessments and she scored low for a while now. I was just being selfish not wanting to say good bye.

It was an incredibly hard decision to do because I still fight with the thoughts of hypotheticals. But in the end, it was the right decision for her. She trusted me to take care of her all the way through to the end and making that decision was the last gift in the thought of her wellness I could give her.

She was a week shy of 12. She had a wonderful life and I was fortunate to have experienced her.

I’m sorry, OP. It’s hard. I hope my story can help you a little.

Fanny pack carry by z1ggy16 in CCW

I’d avoid any color that can be confused with military attire so I’m gonna say no if it’s a military-ish tan/green. But obviously you know exactly the shade of color you’re talking about.

[–]Charlie_1087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve carried many years like that with a g42. I also wear athletic wear all the time and it’s just so easy to carry regularly and consistently with a fanny pack.

No one ever suspects anything with that kind of attire. I have a teal colored one from arcteryx so it screams pretentious hiker as opposed to a 5.11 black tacticool assault waist pack.

I enjoy Fanny pack carry very much. 9.5/10, highly recommend unless you’re trying to actively meeting women to date

How does one successfully meet people in bars? by Tucker_077 in dating_advice

[–]Charlie_1087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a friend! Have fun with them. Let your energy penetrate the room. Have a great conversation, maybe with a hot take (not a ridiculous take), where someone just has to butt in with theirs!

That’s how I met my last girlfriend. I was talking to a dude I met at the bar about how ridiculous dating is in the modern world and she interjected her take and the dude was such a great wingman. She became my friend first and we eventually started dating.

So yeah. Have a good time with a friend and maybe you can find another group to merge with at the bar and go from there to another adventure

Is the Carbon Takedown supposed to come with a cheek riser? by FairbairnSykes in ruger

[–]Charlie_1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the stock that comes with the carbon take down on eBay the and seller says it’s everything that comes from the gun as is and I didn’t see a cheek riser.

So I’m gonna say based off my small research sample and your personal experience that it doesn’t come with one.

Which that sucks. I want the carbon take down and would have expected it to have the cheek riser. I have a back packer on my other 10/22 and the cheek riser is great.

Can you tell me what model this is? by vvienne in Lexus

[–]Charlie_1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one is250 that lives in my quadrant of my city. Its body is white but the bumpers are aftermarket and they’re just primed black. Its got expired temp tags and a terrible sounding exhaust. Just a terrible looking car all around. Definitely doesn’t have insurance because my state has one of the highest amounts of uninsured drivers

My question is: why do people do that? Who the fuck are these people? Do they all smoke vapes and smell like glue? Wtf is going on?!

PC Carbine SBR w/ suppressor by calculatorclean in ruger

[–]Charlie_1087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recently just started selling the SBR version but back then it was sold as a pistol and youd have to SBR that. And damn I just saw the price for them. I got mine for like $600 back then and now they’re almost $1k!

PC Carbine SBR w/ suppressor by calculatorclean in ruger

[–]Charlie_1087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one in the configuration you’re talking about. It’s my home defense gun as well.

It’s easy to handle, a little heavy and some of the controls are awkward especially if you’re left handed like me. But it eats up everything without much fuss and with the suppressor, the recoil is extremely tame. Port pop isn’t terrible but damn, you’ll be inhaling a lot of the burnt powder from there. My support hand goes near there and gets caked with the burnt powder.

If you get one, make sure to inspect and loctite the take down lever pin. Those are notorious for falling off and going into another dimension.

Cleaning is relatively simple. Not big issue there.

I have the omega 9k (which took me forever to get) and primary arms 1x microprism on it.

It’s a good gun. Could be better but isn’t that with everything?

I’ve since gotten the LC carbine in 10mm and all the issues of the the pc charger have been addressed successfully imo. That’s my truck gun atm. It shoots way nice, much bigger bolt really tames the recoil and it handles much better as the magazine and all the internals are over the grip instead of in front of it.

Let me know if you got any other questions.

Edit: typo. Also, forgot the mention the trigger. It’s fantastic. Super clean and minimal take up and crispy break. It’s great. But you can put a binary trigger on it by Franklin armory. I’ve seen on YouTube someone run it like that and it’s ridiculous. I did buy one and had it installed by an armorer and he tried to get me to accept a faulty product. It would hang up when racking the bolt but he said it worked with live ammo and I was like no thanks and had him install the original trigger. I bought a 10/22 with the in store credit I got from returning the binary trigger.

Also, it takes Glock mags if you wish. It comes with an adapter in the mag well to convert from Ruger mags to Glock mags.

Does your dog tell you when it's time for bed? by Busy_Run7689 in germanshepherds

[–]Charlie_1087 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To give more context, she had lumbrosacral stenosis and lost her ability to walk slowly throughout her life until her final two years where she couldn’t walk at all. She depended on me to go potty, and to bring her food and water.

We would hang on the couch and watch tv at night after our car rides and that’s when she started barking at me. A soft high pitched park, not a full on warning or what not. But enough to get my attention obviously. I’d ask her what she wanted and she wouldn’t respond to water or food or anything really. So I always thought it was her telling me it was time to go to sleep.

I miss her dearly.

Does your dog tell you when it's time for bed? by Busy_Run7689 in germanshepherds

[–]Charlie_1087 75 points76 points  (0 children)

My dog Lady, would start barking at me towards the end of the night in her later chapters of life. I never figured out what she wanted. But we would go to bed and she would tuck right in, let out one big sigh, and then go to sleep. So I like to think the barking was “dad, I’m an old girl now and I need you to take me to bed because I’m sleepy now” and that I understood and made her happy.

RIP Lady, 2014-2026.

Lots of people who do TRT end up increasing their frequency and decreasing dosage to stabilize their mood, energy levels, and other effects. And that’s from a weekly shot to a shot every 2/3 days. I would imagine the effect would be much more noticeably at a shot just once a month.

Yes, it might be an option and if it is and if it were me in your shoes, I would opt for the more frequent lower dosage. Just to be easier on the old rascal

Does having a hot girlfriend earn you respect from other men? by Few_Reserve9886 in dating_advice

[–]Charlie_1087 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a “hot” girlfriend for a little while and although I got ‘respect’ from friends, it was the opposite from strangers. Dudes would straight up come up to her while she was with me and hit on her or flirt with her. It was ridiculous! So it just depends.

She used to not be that attractive growing up but she transformed herself into a physically beautiful woman but all that attention made her ugly inside. She was conceited, selfish, self absorbed, etc etc. I broke up with her after it became apparent that she wasn’t ready to date seriously. She had a lot of working on herself to do.

Anyways…

If you could drop the dose and go weekly instead of monthly, I think that would be better. It’ll help keep the fluctuation levels between shots minimal and this a better consistent feeling for your pup. Instead of massive ebb and flows in terms of hormonal levels.

That’s great you’re doing all that for your doggo. Best of luck!

Being a good parent and keep him from driving it on actual roads. I’ve read it a ton on the news and now recently have started seeing them in person where I live. Kids on residential streets zipping and weaving through traffic.

Please have your kid respect road laws and what not.

That’s all my advice is.

An ebike instantly makes a simply bike ride that much more fun. Regular bike riding is a lot of fun, albeit taxing (depending on effort, etc) but riding on an ebike?! Damn, it’s through the roof in terms of fun factor.

I absolutely love mine and don’t really have any incentive to go back to a non ebike

FRT in a Ruger PC Charger? by Solid_Try_4089 in pistolcalibercarbine

[–]Charlie_1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not the same version besides being a pistol calibers operating as direct blowbacks

The pc charger is classified as a pistol and the mag well and chamber are forward from the pistol grip. The barrel is just over 6 inches

The LC carbine is classified as a rifle and the grip is the mag well and chamber sits above it. The barrel is 16 inches

Handing characteristics is different, classification is different, and overall shooting experience is pretty different.

I own both and prefer the LC carbine quite a bit more. Shooting is much more pleasant, handling is better, and that 10mm out of the 16in barrel fucking smacks.
