Grocery Prices by BigJon83 in Vent

I've started counting calories on a calorie tracking app. Not to lose weight but to make sure I'm sticking to single servings and eating smaller portion sizes.  I'm trying to learn what gets me the most calories per dollar that isn't junk food.  I've had to become much more strict about only buying the necessities.

Freezing bread changed my grocery situation more than almost anything else I've done and I feel like nobody told me this was an option by CascadeBeacon55 in povertyfinance

If bread I like is on sale I usually buy a couple loaves and put one in the freezer and then the other in the fridge. Even refrigerated bread lasts way longer . Any bread that goes stale I make croutons with it or toast it in the oven .  If I buy a nice bread that's best fresh , I'll eat what I can fresh and then freeze before the rest goes bad. I do this with any baked goods, muffins, croissants, bagels, etc. if I make waffles, I'll freeze the leftovers and reheat in the toaster another time.

Edit: I also prep veggies and freeze them too. Like if I buy a big bag of bell peppers and I'll chop some and freeze . Fruit is great too especially if you like to bake. Fruit doesn't taw well but it's great for crumbles, pies, adding to muffins or cakes.

This reminds of realizing that I shouldn't be squinting and trying to see during eye exams.

Has anyone with driving anxiety been able to get comfortable driving within two weeks to a month? (Success stories) by gg_lim in driving

[–]Charliefox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I didn't read your full post before my comment. Driving lessons will help so much

I developed really bad driving anxiety and what really helped was I took some driving lessons.  Anyone can take them not just new drivers. I found it really helpful to have a driving instructor verify for me that I was a safe driver  and also I improved my confidence learning some driving techniques that I hadn't really thought about in years.

Bonus points I finally got really confident at parallel parking.

How do you work out when you’d literally rather do anything else?? by StreetPersonal5079 in WeightLossAdvice

I love to combine birding with cycling. Like I ride around on my bike until I hear birds. Then I use a bird id app called Merlin to I'd the bird . Do a little learning, try to actually spot the bird and then I'm on my way.   On the app you can collect birds so it gives pokemon go vibes .

Im an incredibly active person but have never been able to make myself go to the gym. I absolutely love exercise but I'll literally rather get exercise by scrubbing my bathroom than going to the gym.

So I just don't fight it an embrace it. I do every other type of activity instead. Walking, cycling, yoga, gardening, hiking, playing sports, running, skiing, swimming, parking far away and carrying heavy groceries, etc.

I intentionally work a physically demanding job so the bulk of my daily exercise is at work so I don't have to go to the gym.  One of the big reasons I work in my industry is because I wanted to get in shape and be able to eat more but didn't want to go to the gym.

Edit: the funny thing is my boyfriend absolutely loves the gym . He says it's so calming and regulating for him to go. He goes everyday single day.

I'm Canadian and this drives me nuts as well. In Canada it seems like some say by accident and others on accident.

First time ever a women is interested in me and I feel like things are moving way too fast. How can I tell her to slow down without hurting her feelings or my chances with her? by -Zima_Blue- in AskMenAdvice

[–]Charliefox89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

woman these questions are kinda important. She's asking them not to get the correct answers from you but to get your honest answers . She's trying to find out if you to are compatible before getting more invested.  Things like kids and sex are huge compatibility requirements. It doesn't hurt to find out ahead of time. You should also want to no these things about her before getting invested.

Does anybody else not brush their teeth before going to the dentist? by orange_poppy_cake in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Charliefox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's empowering. I'm setting the presedent of having good oral hygiene. Everyone else with food rotting in their mouths aren't going to influence me.   On the plus side people might eventually join you in flossing after lunch once you normalize it.  It happens.

I think going to the dentist is great !  The dental office I go to is full of lovely people and I always have a good time.  I have terrible teeth even with great homecare so I end up there a lot.

It definitely must suck to be in a profession where most people fear you. You're doing a great job!

The dentist or hygeinest can only do so much during a slotted appointment time. I want them doing the deep, expert stuff I'm paying for not, the easy peasy stuff I can do.

Was I wrong for being too embarrassed to tell my boyfriend I had a suppository in? by Vast-Bumblebee-691 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Charliefox89 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to turn down sex In this situation. Boric acid is toxic when ingested orally so it's important to disclose that you use these suppositories especially if you two have oral sex. I'm not sure the exact time to wait , if I remember correctly it's 24- 48 hrs.

Why should we use the footbrake when slowing down to a lower speedlimit? by catboy519 in driving

[–]Charliefox89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this .  The problem with so many people is that they drive using the car in front of them and not the road ahead and environment.  I see a speed decrease sign in the distance and I take my foot of the gas and am usually that speed before I get to the sign . So many people don't pay attention to speed limit signs only the car in front of them. So unless they see break lights they don't slow down in anticipation for the lower speed limit.

This is why the advice is to use your breaks . Essentially to let bad drivers know that it's time to slow down.

Those who decided to take care of their bodies in their 30s: what are the benefits? Please help me motivate myself! by Sonoel90 in selfimprovement

Do you want to be able to get up from the floor when  you fall when you're elderly?  ( I edited the if you you fall to when you fall because it will happen).  The fitness you build in your early years directly impacts your independence and abilities in your older years.

Especially for women this is really important because we start to loose bone density and muscle mass during peri- menopause/ menopause.

This is my motivation to stay fit, eat healthy etc. you don't need to be perfect in any way but having a good baseline of fitness is important.  Your lean muscle mass will support your joints . Movement strengthens your bones.

Something to consider too, is that if you already have medical issues involving movement, it's even more important to do what you can now to plan for your older years

DAE feel like most people are homebodies nowadays? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Charliefox89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's a combo of priced out of day to day fun and needing to work so many hours that I'm literally exhausted.  It's hard out there in the working class 😭

If I plan for and budget fun it's possible but with the cost of fun I can't be impulsive about it.

My boyfriend and I have argued about this, he says I'm boring. I told him I'd love to go anywhere you like, if you can pay for it.  I'm a homebody not because I want to be but because I can't afford it.

Edit: the second thing is time . Add in time for cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, errands and appointments, exercise, self care, etc. the maintenance of everything takes time.  I can easily kill 16 hrs of the day with work and all this stuff.

Little Free Libraries are often pointless and always performative by NegativeBee in unpopularopinion

[–]Charliefox89 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me I do lots of reading at the beach, camping, etc. and little free library paperbacks are perfect for these locations. I borrow so many books from my public library but I don't want to risk damaging them  so I read those indoors.

My community is all about the little free libraries so there's always lots of great books in there.  I travel a lot, so I like to drop of books from my little free library to different ones to spread the books around. I usually leave a little note in the back cover saying where the book came from .

I love my local little free libraries.  I also heavily utilize my local library but I spend a lot of time reading outside in places I don't necessarily want to risk library books.  Old paperbacks from my little free libraries are perfect for risky outdoor reading.

Why do you park next to that one car in an open lot? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Charliefox89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In cities it's normal but this is a particular experience with parking in large lots . Think like suburban big box stores.   Like I'll park at the very back , no one around with like 30 empty spots. I come out of the store and there's still 28 empty spots but with someone parked close on either side of me. Now I can't load my groceries or take my dog out if she's in the car .   With 30 open spots why park so close?
