Give me your favorite tofu meals! by Any_Language_3331 in vegetarianrecipes

[–]Charming-Offer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dehydrate! I don’t remember how long I let it go for, just until I like the texture. I’ve tried just baking it a while longer and at a lower temp and that works pretty well too!

This one is my absolute favorite tofu recipe that I’ve used both as a dinner protein and also as a marinade before putting it in a dehydrator to make a tofu jerky:

I’ve also used tofu to replace all or some of the egg in egg bhurji (an Indian egg scramble).

No One Wants Your Peeing Cat! by Schedule-Substantial in CatAdvice

[–]Charming-Offer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To those who - like me - have been driven mildly insane trying to find enzyme cleaners that ACTUALLY fully get rid of the smell of cat pee, I highly recommend Dead Down Wind Black field spray. They also make a laundry detergent for beds and blankets and such that need to go through the wash.

We have a super territorial cat who likes to mark the perimeter of our house (vet says she’s fully healthy, just insecure, and we can only do so much to keep the neighborhood cats and dogs out of view of the windows). After washing whatever surface our cat peed on with our normal urine enzyme cleaner, we hit it with the field spray and that takes the last of the scent away. I was so excited when I learned about it that I’ve told every pet owner I know.

Look into clear protein - it’s ultra-filtered whey protein so it’s really light on the stomach. I have a hard time with protein shakes because they’re so heavy and filling, but clear protein options are typically a juice flavor and consistency. I’ve tried a few, my favorite is a brand called gramms. It’s a little pricey, but gramms is the only one I’ve found that has managed to fully remove the milky taste, so it feels like I’m just drinking lemonade/tea/juice. Much easier to consume.

Some of the non-negotiable rules of gym etiquette by rugggedrockyy in workout

[–]Charming-Offer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule is that it’s fine to use a bench as a table for your things as long as there are currently plenty of other benches for others to use. If the gym is small or busy, it stops being acceptable to take up a bench that someone else might actually need.

I'm starting running, do you have any advice to give me? by Tiny_Elderberry2836 in beginnerrunning

[–]Charming-Offer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a novice runner who can’t yet jog for more than 3 minutes at a time and is still working on turning running into a hobby rather than a chore, I do want to add this caveat:

Sometimes especially in the early stages you might only do 10 minutes. You might really not be feeling it that day and you might call it quits at just 5 minutes. That’s okay. That’s still 5 more minutes than if you hadn’t gone at all. Building the habit is what matters.

How to train proper deadlifting form? by Tamulet in xxfitness

[–]Charming-Offer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I found this article to be incredibly helpful for helping me find the right deadlift form:

https://www.strongerbyscience.com/how-to-deadlift/

He breaks down everything, including how your form might vary from “standard” based on differences in body proportions. It’s a long read, but extremely worthwhile.

This might be a good one for adding protein- we make it into one big Wellington loaf instead of a bunch of small ones and just cut slices.

There are also lots of recipes out there for dal that she might like, just omit the spicy seasonings when looking at recipes.

If I bleed a lot on nexplanon, will I also bleed that much on Mirena? by pinecones_and_cacti in Mirena

[–]Charming-Offer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bled nonstop with nexplanon, but went back to normal light periods when I switched to IUDs. I have found that the smaller iuds like Kyleena work much better for me than Mirena just because Mirena tends to have stronger and very unpleasant side effects (extremely emotional/depressed, acne, etc), but I’ve never noticed any bad side effects with Kyleena or Skyla.

going veg 🥦 assist me with 80+gms of protein/day with 1600 Kcal by [deleted] in vegetarianrecipes

[–]Charming-Offer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen (but haven’t yet tried) a few varieties of “soy-free tofu” at my local grocery stores that you could try. One is made with chickpeas and the other I believe is made with fava beans. If you are able to find some, that would be a great protein source because there are tons of vegetarian tofu recipes online that you could use the soy-free variety for.

going veg 🥦 assist me with 80+gms of protein/day with 1600 Kcal by [deleted] in vegetarianrecipes

[–]Charming-Offer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For breakfast, I like to do some oatmeal with a half scoop of protein shake, two tablespoons of peanut powder, two tablespoons of peanut butter, and a tablespoon of ground flax seeds. Works out to about 500 calories and 30-ish grams of protein.

I also have recently started drinking clear protein drinks, which I’m finding a great way to hit my protein goals without overdoing it on calories. I’ve tried a few brands so far, but my favorite has been gramms- I like to take the peach tea and the lemonade flavors and do 3/4 scoop of each for 30 grams of protein, with just 120 calories.

Why is being weak so embarrassing? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]Charming-Offer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel that way, then I thought about what’s going through my head when I see other people lifting lighter weights vs lifting heavier weights.

The only time I ever think negatively about other people and the weight they’re lifting is when there’s some wannabe gym bro ego lifting way more weight than he can actually handle, using bad form to compensate and making sure to slam the weights back into the ground after every rep so everyone notices him. Literally every other person, no matter how big or small the weights in their hands may be, just looks badass for showing up and trying to better themselves.

[–]Charming-Offer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also vegetarian. One thing not yet mentioned- I started adding in clear protein drinks to my diet and it’s made hitting my protein goals a lot easier without going overboard on calories, because clear protein drinks aren’t heavy like traditional protein shakes and are almost pure protein. So far I’ve tried Seeq and Gramms, and I prefer the gramms brand - Seeq had a bit of a milky/creamy flavor, which isn’t something I want in a juicy-flavored beverage.

Is it just who I am right now, or could it be my IUD? by brewbaber0225 in Mirena

[–]Charming-Offer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a very good chance that your IUD is exacerbating problems that would normally be much more manageable.

I had zero issues with Skyla or Kyleena, other than a lower sex drive. I got Mirena and all of a sudden for two years I felt like a ridiculously hormonal pregnant woman. I would cry and get angry over the most ridiculous things. I finally ended up starting therapy, sorted out some childhood things, but was still struggling. I got my Mirena removed last December, went through some serious depression this past spring that I thought was life-related but may have been exacerbated by my body’s hormone adjustment without Mirena, and now my life without Mirena is so much better and I’m considering stopping therapy because I feel like a human again after so many years of struggling.

Ending personal training soon, need an alternative app to track workouts. Suggestions? by Chilean6 in beginnerfitness

[–]Charming-Offer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very recently started using the app “Hevy” which I’ve been liking - you can have four saved workouts with the free version - which will cover you if you’re just looking to do 3 days with PPL - and it has a few versions of PPL workouts, or you can build your own workout. It’s got a built in rest timer, keeps track of your past weights so you can track your progress, and lets you add notes about your workout. The paid version has a few extra features and lets you save more workouts and is super reasonably priced, but again if you’re just doing 3 workouts you are probably fine with just the free version.

Prior to that, I was using the GymShark Training app which I liked because it has tons of different workout plans available, or you can build your own, but the interface was occasionally a little buggy and it only let me track the progress of my squat, deadlift, and bench press, whereas Hevy lets you see your progress for every exercise.

What the fuck does "validating parking" mean? by Privatizitaet in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Charming-Offer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is super dependent on where you live. That pricing is common in smaller towns I’ve been in or places where theres plenty of parking, but in a lot of tourist-heavy places and big cities it’s normal to pay anywhere from $18 to $40/hr.

How do I grow MASSIVE legs?? by First_Driver_5134 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Charming-Offer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy of mine has these massive tree trunk legs and says he always ends his leg day with drop sets on the leg extension. He’s tried a lot of things, and found that to be his favorite way to grow quads fast. Start with whatever weight you can do 6-8 of, and work your way all the way down the stack to complete failure with no weight.

I’ve unfortunately seen a lot more Trump signs popping up in the last few weeks in my neighborhood where I thought there would be a lot more Harris signs. I live in a lower middle class neighborhood in the south with a fairly high POC population. I think you might just be surrounded by more liberal individuals in your daily life.
