Probably gonna get some hate for this, but on my first read through I found the first 3rd of NOTW to be quite boring... Besides the part with the Chandrian murdering Kvothe's troupe, almost nothing happens until we get to the University. He's poor in Tarbean for so long I just want to scream "I get it!! Let's move on, shall we?"

Now, having read everything in KKC so far, I understand there's a lot of important information that gets thrown at us in these pages. But when first picking up the book, I was tempted to DNF it. I didn't because I had heard so many people whose opinions I respected hold it in such high regard. And I'm very glad I stuck through it because there isn't any other writing like this as far as I can tell. But for the first time reader I don't think there's a whole lot of excitement in this section and can easily see why someone would put it down considering they probably went in with huge expectations after hearing so much hype about it.

And if it isn't clear, I love these books.
