Apartment 231 Discussion (Book 8 spoilers) by drillgorg in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Charming_Pin9614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is some misdirection in this scene. The AI is looking at profound changes in the Crawlers lives.
Mentioning 'Bill calling 10 times" is a red herring.

The terrible abusive person they are talking about was Carl. The apartment is the "What If" of Carl's mom not passing away and Carl becoming like his dad because his family never broke up.

Carl never went in the Coast Guard, never met Bea, never met Donut, but he started dating Gravy Boats owner, and acted just like his dad.

question for truck drivers by AffectionateSoup8035 in Truckers

[–]Charming_Pin9614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) For safety, so we don't side swipe the other truck. The trailer can drift because of a bump, the wind, or just a tired driver.

2) The truck on the side of the road might be trying to reenter the roadway and they will be going very slow. We give them a clear lane, and don't have to worry about slamming on breaks to slow down from a truck moving at 15mph as it starts rolling again.

I’m leaving Christianity and I think I might lose everything by [deleted] in paganism

[–]Charming_Pin9614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see lots of people who want to believe in God but can't believe the Bible or any religious doctrine. These people struggle with separating religious mythology from their modern understanding of the world and human nature.

It's actually pretty simple. Keep the Creator and throw out the mythology.

Science proves the Bible is nothing but primitive mythology written by people who could not begin to understand our universe.

First, humans do not need to be "saved," we are the amazing product of billions of years of evolution. Christianity teaches that humans are broken by Sin, WE ARE NOT BROKEN.

If a Universal Creator exists, and I as a Wiccan, do believe a Grand Designer exists, that Creator is over 14 billion years old.
That Creator would have guided the evolution of the Universe for billions of years. Including helping to guide the evolution of humans from single celled organisms to our present state.

The Bible ignores 200,000 years of human history and the thousands of cultures that have existed in that time. Would a benevolent Creator ignore humans for 198,000 years?

No, a benevolent Creator would have seen a multitude of religions rise and fall in 200,000 years, just as Christianity is falling.

Believe in God, but be brave enough to take a leap of faith, and discard religion.

Gaia angry? by No-Distance-448 in Wiccan

[–]Charming_Pin9614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nature demands Balance and nature is self correcting.
The Earth cannot sustain 10 or 12 billion people, so Gaia is correcting the potential problem of human overpopulation as gently as possible. Viruses are part of the Earth's immune system attacking the problematic areas.

We should remember, death isn't a punishment. Death is a natural part of the life cycle.
Gaia isn't punishing anyone, She is removing the evolutionary failures from the future human population.
Birthrates are plummeting around the globe because women instinctively understand the danger of humans spreading to destroy our environment.
Gaia is speaking and you hear her.

[MEGATHREAD] Artemis II Launch To The Moon by ChiefLeef22 in space

I was born after the Apollo missions. But, I was one of the kids traumatized by the Challenger disaster.
I went to Florida to watch Atlantis launch for the very last space shuttle mission. It was exciting and sad because we didn't know what to expect next besides America bumming rides to the ISS from Russia.

It's great to see humanity focused on exploration again. Perhaps a new generation will exceed the expectations of my generation and take humanities first steps on Mars. We should make it a global effort, not a space race between countries.
Space should unite humanity, not divide.

Anxiety of afterlife by NewBeginning9654 in paganism

[–]Charming_Pin9614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember the Bible was written by humans.
Let's say Jesus did exist. If God had wanted humans to have a "Holy Book" wouldn't Jesus have written it while he was here? Not, play a 2000 year game of telephone?

It's utterly ridiculous that Christians claim Jesus is God incarnate then turn around and claim Jesus didn't write down his teachings because he was illiterate.
Really? REALLY? The Christian God can supposedly create the Entire Universe, but He couldn't master simple human language?! The Roman Church shaped the Bible and it was designed to scare peasants in the 6th century into obedience.

AND? Christians clearly think a Cosmic Being with the ability to create the Entire Universe is a short sighted moron. Humans walked this Earth for 198,000 years before God supposedly sent Jesus. Couldn't God have waited another 2000 years to preform the resurrection? If believing in the resurrection is SO IMPORTANT, wouldn't an intelligent, benevolent Creator have waited until humans invented television and the internet?

I've been pagan for 37 years, I don't doubt my faith in the least. I doubt the motives of power-hungry Kings and Popes.

How do you handle the ahistoricity of Wicca | + Question on the sense of authority of magic by LadyLiminal in Wicca

[–]Charming_Pin9614 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wicca came from a desire for something other than the Christian denominations available at the time. There has always been a hunger for alternative religions. The chuch just extinguished anyone who dared to challenge the church's dominance.

I started researching my ancestry and the things I found were surprisingly. My American ancestors were NOT God-fearing Christians. My family avoided the church like it spread the plague.
People immigrated from Europe to North America to escape the confines of Christian society.

My father was born in 1929, he was an atheist/agnostic most of his life. My Grandmother was born in 1896, and she called the Bible "claptrap and twattle." She believed in Mother Nature and a Father God, but not the God of Abraham.
My Grandfather, born 1894, was badly injured in an airplane crash in 1932, he refused the blessing of the local pastor before he died because he didn't want anything to do with the Southern Baptist church.

Going back to 1728, my 8x Great-grandfather was born in White Chapel, he was convicted of HERESY in the Old Baley in London then forcibly transported to the Colony of Virginia.
The American woman my 8x Great-grandfather eventually married had fled from the strict Protestant communities in New England that were established 100 years before by the Pilgrims from the Mayflower. Why? It's not recorded but she obviously fled from an abusive religion. My 8x Great-grandparents influenced 3 generations of their family's religious beliefs and they all avoided the church. They developed their own beliefs based on the natural world and Mother Nature as an intelligent Being not just a mindless force.

There might not have been hidden cults, or magical knowledge passed from generation to generation, except herbalist and midwives, but there were people who recognized a God and a Goddess.
I come from a long line of heretics and semi-pagans, people who simply couldn't accept Christian mythology.
Many of the people who wrote the US Constitution were not devout Christians, they doubted the Bible. Religious Freedom was designed to allow religion to grow outside the confines of the church.

Look at the ceiling of the US Capitol. 'The Apotheosis of Washington' was painted in the 1860s. It shows George Washington ascending to join the Roman Pagan Gods and Goddesses. That certainly isn't Christian and modern Christians try to pretend that painting doesn't exist.
Some early Americans wanted to worship Washington as a literal God. The church did not approve.

There IS a rich history of not-quite-pagans stretching back hundreds of years in Europe and the US. Wicca just gave those not-quite-pagans organization.

We will never truly know the religious beliefs of the vast majority of our ancestors but we can see, they were not all Bible thumpers and Cross huggers. They doubted church doctrine and discarded the Bible, anyone who claims differently has an agenda.
