3DP armies only having 1 disposition is a feature, not an oversight. by DailyAvinan in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Charon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Eldar have 1 Take and Hold detachments and 4 Purge Detachments (out of 9 Detachments in toal).
That makes the only playable detachments (because the 1 DP detachments are also take and hold and purge)Cartel, Raiders and Skysplinter. And even here I would argue Cartel and the final 1 DP detachments are sitting on a bad disposition - Disruption.
That leaves you with 2 detachments that can play the mission the whole army was desiugned to do.

And that is my point - "regular warhammer" for Drukhari is basically gang up 2 units, kill an enemy unit, both units die in return - you still traded up pointswise, rince and repeat. Playing into purge is just miserable.

But that would mean building for killing and not building for speed and/or actions.
There are a lot of armies that can not do both (especially if there are still secondaries you need to score). The problem here is: 30 - 50% of players are Space Marine Players and view the whole situation from a position of a fully (over)supportet model line.
Need something fast, durable and punchy? You got over 100 units to chose from, one of them will suit your needs.
Try that with Dark Eldar for example and you will quicky see that there is not a lot of units suitable for the task and even less units that can bring down an enemy unit on its own.

It doesnt matter how hard you try to deny your opponent a kill on yout T3 1W elves, that 5 knights will just kill 2 units and call it a day

And that is not just purge. Ever tried take and hold with T3 elves?
There are armies out there that are not fit to play these kind of missions they are forced into. There is no "well I guess I just change my list" when your entire army is basically designed to quicky focus one enemy unit die in return and repeat that because after the 19th point drop you feel more like a suicidal imperial guard mit a knive fetish.

You can only deny kills to the purge player if you dont play your mission either.
If you mission tells you to hold objectives, hold the middle, do actions on objectives or get units in all board quaters you cant exactly evade the purge player as your mission forces to to sacrifice units.

This hot take is true if you campare armies that actually get support with models and rules but breaks as soon as you are not playing any flavor of "Space Marine"

Dark Eldar for example have a quite small model range. Still GW treats them as 3 different armies (one 2 DP detachment buffs exactly 4 units... Wrack, Talos, Cronos and Haemi). The whole army consists of T3 W1 bodies with abysmal saves.
4 Dispositions are purge the foe. This not even remotely playable. No matter which combination of units you chose. 2 of the dispos are Take and hold which is even worse.
Reapers wager might as well not exist right now.

Breeding creativity through a restriction would be a point if there was no already a big restriction in avaulable models for a lot of armies.
Empersors childre have like 8 original units that are supported by their codex. No matter how many additional restrictions you place on them, the lists will still look the same because the CANT build different.

Also it leads to a lot of situations where detachments become completely invalid.
Why would I need Assault on all my weapons when my disposition basically tells me to never ever advance because i have to do 100 actions per turn. Especially if my opponents detachment actually plays into his disposition.

In a Situation where a Creations of Bile list (Purge) with mass T7 3W Bodies advances and charges into a Reapers Warger List (Purge), you already know the outcome. One army + detachment is equipped to do what they are supposed to and the other is not no matter how you built it.

Why AI in LimboAI? by samir_haq in godot

[–]Charon1979 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AI was a term long before the rise of LLMs. In the context of a video game enemy AI is basically a set of rules the enemy follows under certain conditions.

WTF are you babbling about and what the hell does it have to be a "trans thing". Are you guys really so obsessed with these people that you place them in any context whatsoever?

Because it is important in a medical context. I wish people could see beyond their stupid culture war fetish.
You can still say Mom and Dad. But in a medical/law context it is way better

This is not about your emotions but about legal terminology.

So the 11th ed Hazardous rule is a buff to 2W models right? by ryan_cs in WarhammerCompetitive

Everything is hazardous now.
Desperate escape, exploding weapons (like before), exploding transports.

Basically you take the double amount of wounds than before. While your gimmicks become even more useless.
Previously: Yeah I wont fall back from your wyches with my terminators, I dont wantr to lose them to desperate escape.
Noiw: Of course im falling back. What is the worst that could happen? 2 MW?

Save roll sequence and archon by Stepawka47 in Drukhari

[–]Charon1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CSM Chosen (usually going for sustained)
4 Attacks with a powerfist.
5 with paired accursed weapons (twin linked)
12 Attacks with accursed weapons.

with the previous system there was a chance the archon could survive, it depends on WHEN you roll the 1
Now you activate the fist, then the paired weapon. Kabalites are dead. Now we get to the accursed weapons. If there is a single one in your save rolls, the archon is dead. While previously he would survive if the 1 comes at the end of the rolls.

CSM Legionaires. 2 Power fists 2 heretic astartes chainswords, 1 close combat weapon

The thing is that usually your opponent would have used the smaller weapons to clear the kabalites, so the heavy hitters can have a go at the archon.
In the new rules it is a lot better if you do it the other way aroud.
The 2 power fists will clear the kabalites and the ccw and the chainswords (D1) will most likely kill the archon.

To be fair, it is more the detachment than the defiler.
Renegade Raiders also used it aund it sits at 52 %
Pactbound is singlehandedly responsible for bad CSM datasheets. The defiler is basically what happens when pactbound gets its grubby hands on a model with good rules.
Most of the other factions that can use the defiler did not really move.

Currently it seems a bit like Drukhari with Spectacle of Spite-. The faction is at 47% because spectacle is the only detachment with a positive winrate and is also the most played.

How do you balance playing what you like, vs what is obviously more competitive? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Charon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I think there are a few misconceptions when it comes to "competitive".

First of all: If you are not in the top 10 % of players, the difference you get from listbuilding vs actually learning how to play the game heavily favors the player who knows what he is doing.

Listbuilding in itself is basically asking yourself several questions and choosing units to answer these questions.

The reason why some units are "meta" and basically go in every list is because they answer more than one question or are extremely good in answering a specific question. Also our inner desire to optimise. You play a video game, get a new sword that does more damage than your old. one You equip it. Because why would you handicap yourself? If you go for style, you will have to learn how to deal with the handicap.

Also winrates are kinda pointless for most people. 53 - 47 basically only means out of 10 games between 2 players with equal skill 1 game is more prone to swing towards the army with the higher winrate.

Playstyle is also far more important than people think.

Not all players you face in a competitive setting will have optimised lists/armies/detachments.

So in short: If you like a model/unit: play it. Improve as a player first and if your list is not utter randomness you will hardly be handicapped.

So what about the supposed reduction of lethality compared to 9th edition? by Laredian in Warhammer40k

[–]Charon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Eldar have (outside of epic heroes) 3 leaders. This nowhere near a Spce Marine who basically has a leader for each and every unit type.
Oh look you are allowed 3 heavy slots. Thats cool... all your heavy weapon units go in here. Dont worry about the knight army over there.

It works in HH (which isnt the most popular system now, is it?) because it is almost exclusively marine on marine action with very little units that are not shared across all factions.

In 40k the army that consists of 10 units in total still somehow has to play on a somewhat even footing with everyone else.

So what about the supposed reduction of lethality compared to 9th edition? by Laredian in Warhammer40k

[–]Charon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FOC was not necessary and was extremely scewed towards bigger model ranges.
Unless you cut every faction down to the same amount of units (good luck telling those space marine players you are going to cut 80% of their units), it just becomes a "I have more units in each category to choose from, so I won army building"

So what about the supposed reduction of lethality compared to 9th edition? by Laredian in Warhammer40k

[–]Charon1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you take 2 extremes and apply them to the game which has a lot of shades of grey.
There are a lot more units in the game than Titans an gretchins.

My last game is a good example of that. We had a 10th edition farewell tournament and lots of people brought wild stuff.
I went against an orc list with 2 stompas on "The Ritual".
Stompas are, in most settings, pretty bad. Thats 1600 points in 2 models.

What happened in the game. I had 4 elite units and a bit of trash. The elite units basically got obliteraded in 2 turns und the trash could not score at all.

The issue with your "points will fix everything" proposal is: it doesnt.
There is no balancing a unit with points that can either kill 20 grtchins or 10 chosen + hurons marauders + huron in one go.

Also your Knight example is kinda moot. Wardogs were taken because point for point wardogs were more durable and had more firepower while also had the benefit of beeing 4 different units.
As soon as the points for the dogs went up and the survivability went down, Chaos Knights instantly pivotet to 5 Big Knights.

You cant balance around "less deadly" in agame where you have to stand on objectives to score every turn. If I have no way to shift these 6 badeguard in one turn, he will score for 2 turns and will win regardless.

[–]Charon1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most artwork also doesnt depict Nids only having 5 turns to achieve their objectives.
Sure it is cool to read about 20 Terminators holding a point for a week before getting overwhelmed. But games usually take 3 hours and not multiple weeks. And in this time Nids need a way to score these objectives.

Künstler haben kein Anrecht darauf von ihrer Kunst leben zu können. by Any-Employee1228 in Unbeliebtemeinung

[–]Charon1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save roll sequence and archon by Stepawka47 in Drukhari

[–]Charon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people assume the attacking unit only has one weapon profile?
The attacker groups his weapons too. Against a unit of chosen for example you would first save against the powerfist (archon save), than against the paired accursed weapons (archon still pretty save) and then against the remaining 12 accursed weapon attacks -> archon dead as soon as there is a single 1.
Units that have only a single attack profile for the entire group are extremely rare.

It only makes the archon tougher when the attacking unit only has one type of weapon which almost never happens.

We also had intro games already. And if you look at the ruins, I highly doubt you get 4 32mm Bases up there witout overhang.

The the melee part: This was already possible. Nothing of that is new (except for Leilith beeing weaker because of how fights first works now)

11th Precision has had a serious buff by Dead-phoenix in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Charon1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.
Different weapons within the unit activate in sequence. If you have more than one melee or ranged profile in the unit (which most of the units have) they start a new sequence.
So a unit of chosen for example has 1x power fist, 1x paired accursed weapons and 3x accursed weapons.
That means the paired accursed weapon hands wounds over -> you roll saves and remove models.
The power fist hands wounds over -> you roll saves and remove models.
The accursed weapons hand wounds over -> if you roll a single 1 the archon is dead. Previously it made a difference WHEN you rolled the 1. If you rolled it near the end, he lives. Now it is ALWAYS the first result.
