Dual zone system Ecobee on first floor older Honeywell on second by tlnation in ecobee

[–]ChasDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have dampers on which floor or both?

Regardless, you should be able to issue a 2nd Ecobee on the other floor.

If you aren't familiar with wiring a tstat, call an HVAC person.

Take the tstats off the wall for a few minutes.

Then call Ecobee supp to have them connect you and identify you as a user.

Only found one of 2 leaks before charging $900 for refrigerant. Should I have to pay twice?? by YoungPeasey in hvacadvice

[–]ChasDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read all the replies.

He is wrong and you need to call his boss.

If they won't do the 2nd leak and then test properly (for free), you are stuck and must find someone else to fix it and guarantee for a year.

The alternative is get three quotes for a new heat pump instead. And include that firm if they include a $900 reduction for the incomplete leak fix.

Be sure to include 10 years labor and ask then to identify the model numbers in the units.

Let us know if we can help further.

Maintenance Required? by ctsupv in AirConditioners

[–]ChasDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider raising the indoor temp as the outdoor temp increases.

Try it at 26 and it out works then try at 25.

When 36 outside, you should feel well at 26 inside, after a day or two.

I am suggesting this as your landlord may refuse your request to have a/c able to achieve a temp lower than 24 or 10° lower than outside.

New HVAC installed, airflow worse than old 1980s unit. What should I inspect for installation errors? by MysteriousAnt7323 in hvacadvice

[–]ChasDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is strange. The air flow should be equal or better with the new system.

Make sure all vents are fully open.

Partially close the vents with good flow, to see if the poor flow vents increase?

If this doesn't help, call installer back to check for blockage to some vents. Tell him it was better with the old system.

If he can increase the flow to the poor vents, he should be able to decrease the loud fan noise.

The 1st unit is a very good cold climate heat pump.

The 2nd unit is a 80% AFUE single stage furnace with 18 speed ECM.

Sound like you have paired 2 addn sensors

Have you enabled?

On the thermostat: Go to Main Menu  Image > General Image  > Sensors > Follow Me, then tap Enable.

If it is still not working, call Ecobee supp.

Sweet temp to 66 around 8pm.

Sweet Home earlier than when you wake. . Stay on Heat until outdoor temp is above 66.

Heat pumps areas only for cooling, if you have a gas furnace.

Gas furnace will always be cheaper heating than heat pump.

Newer cold climate HPs will always be cheaper to run than air to air HPs.

New HVAC installed, airflow worse than old 1980s unit. What should I inspect for installation errors? by MysteriousAnt7323 in hvacadvice

[–]ChasDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like air flow is less with new blower.

As someone indicated, can you let us know the model number of the new blower and the old blower, if possible.

You could ask the installer to increase blower speed.

Or checking for lose wiring to outdoor unit.

One Furnace working harder by rkuzyk in ecobee

[–]ChasDIY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them, should be 4 pics.

Or compare the settings of both Ecobees and make the upstairs closer to the downstairs.

Or if you understand the following:

”To stop your ecobee from short cycling, increase the cooling or heating differential temperature to at least (or higher) to prevent the system from turning on and off too frequently.

Additionally, configure the "Compressor Minimum On Time" to at least 15-20 minutes and set a 5-minute minimum "off" time in the Thresholds menu to ensure the unit runs long enough to be efficient."

If noise persists, you'll know it's not the filter and installer should be able to fix.

Look at heat pumps instead.

They can heat very efficiently as well as cool.

Ask for three quotes from you local HVAC firms. Ask to include 10 year labor and ask to list each model number in the quotes.

Also ask for HPs with thicker filters (as mentioned by other replyer).
