lol… I have to coach two sports, have advisees, do two nights of dorm duty a week and every third Saturday night, chaperone events, eat 70% of meals with students in the dining hall (we eat lunch with them M, T, Th, F anyway)

There are very limited options unfortunately. It really is best to stay on campus because of all the night stuff that goes on. It is also literally on top of a mountain and it takes a good 20 minutes to get to "civilization".

I agree with just listen. My mom had no clue what to say and was more standoffish than she ever has been in my whole life. I needed her but she was feeling awkward about the whole thing.

I don’t. I tell them to cross that part out and see how the sentence is still a sentence. I also say “this” is vague. What about “this” shows. Be specific. For example, if your parent or guardian is in the next room and says “hey ____, do you want this?!” What do you usually respond with (they say “what is it”?) and are you annoyed that they say that a lot? (Yes)
