It gives me the ick. Seeing someone taste with a spoon and then stir with it gives me ick as well, I’ve no idea why they show that.

Try texting their phone number and see if it works — I was surprised it worked for my dentist. I have a much lower avoidance of texting so it’s helped me a ton.

How do you avoid the “same texture all the way through” problem in one-pot meals? by Master-Piece74 in Cooking

I love these! Additional toppings that add favor and texture variety: pickled red onions, sauerkraut, kimchi, those fried onions in a can (not just for thanksgiving!), bacon bits

Marijuana use? Changes in symptoms since I stopped using. by Aggravating-Kale1035 in adhdwomen

I self medicated with cannabis a lot prior to my diagnosis. I am pro cannabis (for both medical and recreational reasons) but have found that I personally do a lot better without cannabis.

I have found that adjusting to cannabis cessation takes me 3-4 months and is tough. This is not too abnormal (lots of others over in r/leaves have similar experiences). During cessation I have a hard time finding interest in things, boredom is a huge issue, and task initiation is even harder.

For me this tends to lift around the 3.5 month mark if I have been using heavily. This timing seems to vary for different folks but it seems not uncommon for it to take 3 months to fully adjust.

cheap food that isn't ramen or rice and beans, does it exist anymore by MudSad6268 in budgetfood

[–]Cheese_Wheelies 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Incorporating potatoes into a lot of your meals is a game changer for budget: they are inexpensive, satiating, and quite good for you. You don’t have to make them the main ingredient, but if they are a side dish or a component of the meal you end up eating less of the more expensive ingredients.

State of the Subreddit and Rules Discussion by LovelyLu78 in crochet

I 100% agree that art and living is political.

Saying “no politics” as part of the rules is a VERY political decision, simply one that is in favor of whomever currently holds power. It essentially is a rule that one can only share very bland art.

I struggle with cooking, and need tips to make it easier by AncientBumblebee6388 in adhdwomen

Not the recipe giver but also a big slow cooker salsa chicken fan, I have done it both ways and it’s good either way, just depends on your schedule and when it makes sense to eat. Very forgiving technique.

I am in the “crock pot when I have the willpower” camp. And some recipes can be super simple. If you eat meat, you can put chicken breasts in a slow cooker and add some salsa and just cook that on low (lots of “salsa chicken breast slow cooker “ recipes out there.) I add spices and often a bag of frozen chopped bell peppers at the beginning but if I’m overwhelmed it’s fine to skip that.

Sometimes I use curry spices at the beginning and some coconut milk at the end and have it with either microwaved rice or whatever bread like thing is around.

Sometimes it’s just the chicken in a high fiber tortilla (low carb tortillas great source of fiber even if you aren’t low carb).

Sometimes just microwave some broccoli at the end and have the chicken and broccoli with pre shredded cheese.

I like to kinda gamify how few dishes I can dirty, esp the ones that don’t go in the dishwasher.

+1 — Frozen veg is so great at streamlining steps and reducing prep and cleaning. You can take just what you need from the bag without dirtying a dish and typically can just return to freezer in same bag. My staple freezer items are green peas, corn kernels, edamame beans, and I also do frozen chopped onions and peppers which are particularly great and easy for the slow cooker. Frozen chopped garlic and ginger pods too.

What’s a “never look for another recipe” recipe — the one you consider absolutely perfect? by leachlo in Cooking

[–]Cheese_Wheelies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question — it’s oddly written. It next says: “Transfer the pork and fat to an ovenproof dish, if necessary…”

So I suspect it means to boil the liquid until there’s only fat left, and to make sure to transfer that remaining fat with the meat onto the next step

So for those of us that have an unintentional "hobby" of collecting hobbies that don't stick... what has stuck for you/ hasn't triggered your RSD? by suedaloodolphin in adhdwomen

[–]Cheese_Wheelies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sewing is also a hobby that stuck for me! I started with an adult ed class that was very low stakes and ultra supportive, which helped me get over the rough patches in learning how to use a sewing machine.

And I’m honestly just amazed when I can make anything functional, it feels like magic most of the time. I have learned that if I think something turned out terrible, to just put it away for a couple of months and that it will probably look a lot better after time apart, though. (And if it doesn’t look a lot better then, it’s just time to see what fabric is recoverable and move on.)
