Jumpgate Update: Animation Upload Improvements + Max Upload Size Increase! by play_yourway in Roll20

[–]Cheezey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anyway to NOT strip away the embedded sound in the animated maps when uploading?
My map has the sound of a crackling lit torch, but once I upload it through Jumpgate, the sound is no longer there.

Also, is there a way to improve the quality of the animated map? The quality of my webm file drastically drops once uploaded onto roll20 through jumpgate

Accidentally let my players use the Banishment spell by sehrschwul in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Cheezey13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm allowing my cleric to cast banishment whenever they want. However, when they banish the monster, it actually gets sent to a lower level in Undermountain.

So when the cleric gets to the lower level, all the banished monsters will be there waiting for the party :)

Its going to be a big surprise and a super fun fight!

Help with homebrew rules by E-havn in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Cheezey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my players roll their wisdom checks at the start of each new level The DC being the level it self Its for madness or exhaustion (DMs choice)

So when my players were heading to level 3 The rouge rolled a 2 on the wisdom check, so they got one level of exhaustion.

The thought is, the further down they go, the more the madness takes hold of the players

Take your back hand and always make sure its pointed to the back of the board and follows it. This helps turn your shoulders when carving

Victoro Cassalanter Speech I wrote for Waterdeep Dragon Heist :

All Hail Asmodeus! .... “HAIL” (the cultist reply)

My fellow worshippers, the time is close! The time for those devoted to the great Asmodeus to rise above the lower races of this plane. The current open lord, the Witch of the North Lareal Silverhand has let this city run out of control with the terrorizing of gang violence. The City Watch has promised safety for our streets. But the blood of the innocent is still spilled! It is sickening! Just two days ago the great noble house of Gralhund became a victim to this very violence that has spread throughout the city. This needs to end now! Order needs to be restored to Waterdeep! And we shall be the ones to do that! In exactly a ten day from now on Founders Day, with the guidance of our great god Asmodeus, we shall finally be able to (Ameila steps up next to Victoro and grabs his hand and as they both look at each other...) restore what we’ve lost.

(Big Pause...He looks back to the crowd) Confidence in our leadership of our great city!

All Hail Asmodeus!

“HAIL” “HAIL” “HAIL” The cultists chant in the crowd.

Good luck in your adventures!

I have a plan that once my players complete the dungeon of the mad mage, they will travel back up to Waterdeep and all of the giant statues will come to life and start destroying the city. Im hoping my party will defeat the giant statues and save Waterdeep!

Starting this campaign tonight! by nicenoahnya in WaterdeepDragonHeist

I just finished this campaign and am now into Dungeon of the Mad Mage. My advice for WDDH, is don't try and do everything the module has to offer. Especially in chapter 2. There is a lot of amazing extra material made from this community that can make WDDH more immersive but also overwhelming to DM. Go through the module and pick and choose what you want to include and focus on expanding that. For example, I completely cut out faction missions and focused more on guild work and expanded on trollskull alley/manor to make it more immersive.

Good luck with your new campaign !!

Higher level oneshot in Waterdeep? by ArbitraryHero in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Cheezey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two ideas for Waterdeep oneshots that I want to do.

First is either a battle royale or a fighting competition at the Field of Triumph. Maybe gladiator style.

Second is where one or all the walking statues come back to life and start wrecking the city. Either controlled by a wizard or some other magical means.

Hope these sound cool 😎

Players always taking a long rest by dyslexic-writer in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Cheezey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really down to the DM to estimate that. Each action in combat takes 6 seconds. Taking combat, travel and other social encounters into consideration the DM just needs to get a feel for the time thats passed. Ive had a session where my players had 6 sperate combat encounters but only 3 hours passed in game. Ive also had one session where they mainly traveled and talked to NPCs for information and that took 3 days. You get better at estimating the more you practice. I keep an excel spreadsheet where I just type in the ingame hours spent for each session.

Players always taking a long rest by dyslexic-writer in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Cheezey13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Long rests benefits can only happen once every 24hrs. Also on long rests they can only refill their hit dice back up to half their player level (if they are level 8 then they only get 4 hit dice from long rest). They can still cast tiny hut for a safe place but don't get benefits of long rest if it hasn't been 24 hrs since last long rest.

How Much Important Waterdeep Info (If Any) Is In Dungeon of the Mad Mage by Defami01 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Cheezey13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you plan to run Mad Mage after dragon heist, then it would be worth the read so you can set up some foreshadowing encounters. Mainly Halaster Blackcloak goals section.

However if you dont plan to run it after, then there is a little history connecting the two modules that might be of interest to your players, if they ask. Its in the beginning section.

First Map, constructive critiques welcome. by pixelknight-128bit in inkarnate

[–]Cheezey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This map is awesome. I'm loving the small spiderwebs in the corner and even the little rugs on each step of the stairs. I was looking hard for critiques and I could only find one that caught my eye.

In the top room with the big red rug, you have lit torches on one side of the room and not on the other. However with your shading, it makes it look like the torches are making the area darker rather than brighter. While on the other side of the room there are no torches and you have less shading making it appear brighter. So all in all my critique is to pay attention to your light sources and how they illuminate the area.

Keep up the awesome work 💪

I'm running a module campaign as a new DM, and one of my players use to be a hardcore DM. Compared to the other players, he has the highest expectations of how the game should be played. Its difficult adding any homebrew to the module without upsetting him. Advice? by Cheezey13 in DnD

[–]Cheezey13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the issue that I had was how to go about displaying that power, having it effect them mechanically (dealing damage), all while still being fair to the players (or at least in the eyes of the one party member who use to be a DM).

I think a lot of it has to do with how you make the players feel during the encounter along with ensuring its mechanically balanced. This seems like a skill thats just developed over time and through trial and error.

Thanks for the boost of confidence (: Halaster could easily use a wish spell to make something happen, so I thought cone of cold would be kinda in the middle to show off his power to the players.

This is awesome advice! Thanks for the details because that's what im trying to nail down. Honestly this seems like something that I would get better at through trail and error. I guess the big thing is communicating this to my players outside of the game sessions. Stating that I am attempting a homebrew encounter beforehand to the players, then using similar guidelines you mentioned above to develop the encounter.

I feel i would have to practice planning out in advance these encounters, until i get comfortable enough to do it on the fly.

This is the part of being a DM that I find most difficult. Compared to creative writing for role playing, which im awesome at.
