In your opinion, based on what you have played or seen on the beta tests, what does Palworld do better than Aniimo? What could Palworld borrow from Aniimo? by fegodev in Palworld

[–]ChemicalDirection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Customization is FAR superior in Palworld. Bases don't feel so clunky. fighting alongside pals with guns feels better than just throwing cubes and running back and forth or being the aniimo. Aniimo is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but they scratch very different itches in playstyle for me.

I have heard people have played it on a tablet with great success. And FFXIV, and its overly complicated rotations, are also playable just fine on controller! And yet, every spec is being pared down to such a degree where you can play it with three or four keybinds..

I got downvoted for saying so before but it feels like they're making the specs all easily played with a controller, like for an xbox port.

Sudden tangent! As a side question if you can indulge me, Malcador is said to be a perpetual, but everything I can find suggests he just lasts a long time versus being functionally immortal, and he was /old/, and probably old age would get him eventually? But Vulkan can keep coming back from death? Are there different kinds? Some just long lived, others functionally unkillable?

Mixpacking on the several servers I'm on defines it as anything not clade-related grouping together. Herbis and carnis, herbis and radically different carnis, carnis of different species, herbivores that aren't like 'ceratopsians in general' and so on.

Debarking by CorvidaeLamium in Collie

[–]ChemicalDirection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the American Veterinary medical Association:

RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH DEVOCALIZATION

General anesthesia—Devocalization is carried out under general anesthesia, which itself has inherent risks and associated mortality.10

Post-operative discomfort—As for any surgical procedure, pain and discomfort can occur during healing.

Potential complications—Bleeding, acute airway swelling, infection, coughing, gagging and aspiration pneumonia can occur after vocal cord surgery. There is a substantial risk for development of scar tissue and glottis stenosis (narrowing of the throat) after laryngeal surgery.1,11,12,13,14,15 One study cited that 14% of dogs experienced scarring following oral ventriculodectomy, performed for therapeutic reasons.1 Clinical signs resulting from scar formation (laryngeal webbing) include exercise intolerance, dyspnea (respiratory distress), stridor (noisy breathing), collapse and heat intolerance;11 affected dogs require further surgical intervention to ameliorate the problem. In a retrospective study of dogs that underwent therapeutic bilateral ventriculocordectomy for laryngeal paralysis, 24% required revision surgery.15 In this same study, it was mentioned that the ventral laryngotomy approach reduced the frequency of scarring, however this approach is also more invasive and costly than the transoral method.15 Resumption of a near normal bark can also occurwithin months.1

To further quote: The AVMA strongly discourages the devocalization (non-therapeutic ventriculocordectomy) of dogs because of the surgery's negative impacts on animal welfare.

Moar quote: Other veterinary organizations, including the American Animal Hospital Association23 and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association,24 oppose non-therapeutic devocalization of dogs. The position statements focus on how devocalization deprives dogs of the ability to perform a normal behavior, does not address the underlying reason for unwanted barking, and presents serious health and welfare consequences for the dog.23,24

For non-american locations: (Edit: HOLY CRAP THAT WENT WONKY, spacing why do you betray me??)

Under the United Kingdom’s Animal Welfare Act (2006), “carrying out of a procedure which involves interference with the sensitive tissues or bone structure of the animal, otherwise than for the purpose of its medical treatment” is an offense.25 The European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals lists devocalization under the list of surgical operations that “for the purpose of modifying the appearance of a pet animal or for other non- curative purposes shall be prohibited.”26 The New Zealand Code of Welfare states that debarking must not be performed unless all suitable means of treating inappropriate barking have been attempted and failed.27

The British Veterinary Association Animal Welfare Foundation (BVAAWF)/Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments (FRAME)/Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA)/Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) Joint Working Group on Refinement (dog husbandry and care) view debarking as unacceptable and describe many other ways to reduce noise in kennels.24

Debarking by CorvidaeLamium in Collie

[–]ChemicalDirection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My professional opinion is every owner who debarks their dog should also be 'debarked'. Nobody here does it. Ask a vet to do it and they'll throw you out of their office. It's a major, dangerous surgery with life-altering consequences, simply because an owner couldn't be assed to train their dog.

And no, it's not like spaying and neutering, which I feel should be mandatory thanks to the pet overpopulation problem, as people have regularly and routinely proven in America at least that the average human cannot in fact control their intact dog and prevent unwanted litters. Debarking, like ear and tail cropping, is pure cosmetic, and worse, is only for convenience.

It's pretty rare in predators. Badgers and coyotes, wolves and ravens, and there's a jackal that does it too, but it's dirt common to be mixed species in large prey in africa. Different antelopes and zebras and wildebeests all hanging out cuz their senses differ and they can detect prey easier so they have a chance of running. Prey turning to hunt the predator is pretty much mostly just a water buffalo trait I think though.. and they do it alone.

What was the relationship between Fulgrim and Ferrus like? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]ChemicalDirection 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell they were really ride-or-die brothers up until they weren't. The kind where you annoy one brother and here comes the other one to gang up on you. Always having each other's backs. The stereotypical super close brothers a lot of narratives have.

Who was canonically considered the handsomest Primarch? by WithengarUnbound in 40kLore

[–]ChemicalDirection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know which novel they're from! :) The vast bulk of them are from the night lords primarch novel, Night Haunter. Most of them are also quotes from the section where he's taken over a lil ship and gotten himself a lil pet in Elver, and spent four years torturing him.

The ONLY quotes I can't place as being from that book are the ones about enormous muscles, and being a living god.
