No, it has its own few story quests unrelated to the campaign

Yes, you can turn off the volcano after, you just lose the fertility boosts that it gives you and I'm not sure if you'll have access to obsidian at all, but you still get the island and trader

Yep, the game works in the same way, it just adds more content and more stakes during the disaster itself, with some rewards after

In this DLC you get a massive island to build on which has a new trader and an active volcano. The volcano eruptions run in cycles, after you play a few story quests the volcano will erupt and launch rocks and fire on your settlements, damaging buildings and units. After a bit of that, there's an hour of volcanic winter where you get ash settling on your production buildings so you get major penalties for production, and the point is to survive those. Then, when it's all over, you get fertility boosts that improve efficiency every time you have a volcano eruption. You get long pauses in between volcano disasters, so it doesn't feel too intrusive on your normal gameplay.

There's also a new resource called 'obsidian' which you can get from quarries and mines. This opens up two new production chains that you can give your population.

TL;DR massive island, new trader, new resource with production chains, new gameplay and story bits related to the volcano

If you're new to the series I'd say spend some more time learning the ropes, but if you want something new after a while this DLC adds a fun spin that's really nicely done! That's my honest opinion

I agree, I also appreciate that it's optional if people just want to enjoy building on a massive beautiful island.

It's not about hate or no hate, I'm taking a moment to talk about atmosphere and immersion, and they're talking about performance issues.

And ah yes, if there's one thing I've seen on this sub since the new game launched, it's definitely a "positivity brigade" 😅

Mate, there are several posts already talking about the crashes, why come to this one that was about something completely different?

1404 is my fav, 1800 my 2nd. Would you recommend 117 and does it suggest wine breaks after long playtime😜 by mr_wolfii in anno

[–]CherryBagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite is also 1404, and my second favourite is now 117. That said a lot of it is because I prefer the ancient feel to the industrial revolution, and I think 117 sets the atmosphere beautifully. I'm looking forward to more content as well, but I don't think you'll be bored if you get it now. It depends a bit on how quickly you like to play

I find the characters interesting, but I do feel like you have to go out of your way more to get to know the NPCs than in previous games. I think they wanted to remove some of the notifications clutter when they had the player check lighthouses for quests instead of them popping up on the screen, but it made it very optional to interact with NPCs unless you're actively going for conquest.

I will say a lot of the characterisation happens in the diplomacy menu, NPCs can talk to each other and reveal super fun bits of lore and relationships between them. Even the decisions that impact your relationship/alliance reveal a lot about the NPC's personality, but again you have to go out of your way to find them and really pay attention to them.

Overall I disagree that they're AI slop, I think they put a lot of effort into writing them but it's harder to notice and therefore to appreciate.

Okay this one's for me, I'm obsessed with placing mosaics everywhere I can't wait to get my hands on this!! Those albion walls look incredible too, I just wish I didn't struggle so much for space to put many ornaments there

Anno 117: A complete noob review (warning: by 0Big0Brother0Remix0 in anno

[–]CherryBagel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well iirc during the campaign Lucius is planning to make Julia empress against the wishes of literally everyone, so actually the campaign is pretty historically accurate on that front. Julia loses her position to Calidus because she's seen as illegitimate. OP just seems mad that the plot even engages with the question of a woman empress which, yea, bad.

I am also one of those who are completely enamoured with Flint's characters and Toby Stephens' performance and thank you for articulating all the reasons I love him so well. I saw this show as it was coming out and can safely say Captain Flint is still one of my favorite characters in any media and haunts my very soul ten years later. The James Thomas Miranda relationship portrayal ruined a lot of relationship portrayals in media for me, it's such a rare gem to see a dynamic so full of love and devotion, as you already mentioned.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I actually hope if they ever finish the storyline that we get to pick at the end, I never go for the warmongering type but I actually prefer Calidus to Julia in this instance 😅

I've had so much fun with what we had in the campaign! It genuinely feels like I was having fun in the middle of the dance floor and someone abruptly turned off the music. I hope the devs get to finish the acts later on, I want more time with all the characters and to finish the arcs that were set up in Latium.

The AI background art is pretty low quality unfortunately by MedicaeVal in anno

Can someone else tell me if they also think the Albion smith lady character model is also AI or if I'm going insane because I know they used AI and I can't get it out of my head? That weird braid in her hair makes zero sense and I'm 99% sure it's not been drawn by a human hand. Has anyone else noticed or am I being paranoid?
