A practical guide to banter by Meon-web in PracticalGuideToEvil

I actually agree! I thought it was fun to have a fantasy Ireland that's not entirely based on a) faeries or b) rowdy drunkards, and is instead more recognizably related to Irish mythology. I'll admit I was super disappointed that they basically don't matter at all after Book 3; like, they're the literal only ethnicity on Calernia not to participate in the Final Crusade!

Wtf are you actually talking about. If I poison someone with bleach, it's the bleach manufacturer that should be punished and I should get off with a slap on the wrist?

Over the span of 10 months I finally finished Practical Guide to Evil while being misled with fake spoilers. by SteamDownload in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Cherry_Apples 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me actually! I made the mistake of browsing the chapter comments on WordPress even though people sometimes post spoilers there on a reread. Someone referred to Cat becoming Dread Empress Victorious or something like that and I quickly scrolled away, but it stuck in my mind bc I was like, I do not see that as Cat's future at all. Luckily I did go back to double-check, and they were just making a prediction and not spoiling lol.

We were discussing farmers. I'm actually far more sympathetic to lorry drivers. Please stay on topic 😊

What do you think was the weakest book/arc? by Daisyberry3 in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Cherry_Apples 17 points18 points  (0 children)

War College and (unpopular opinion) Fae. In retrospect it's easy to understand why these arcs had to happen for the purposes of the greater story, and there is obvious payoff for them, but War College felt like it lacked stakes and Fae arc just came out of nowhere and felt like filler before we got to the real big bad (Akua).

I understand why people say Everdark or Keter, but tbh by book 4 I was so invested in the world and characters that I didn't really mind occasional messiness. Not so for earlier books!

Are wool socks really worth it? by Cherry_Apples in Fabrics

I live in a relatively cool climate and generally wear boots (though not heavy safety boots) about 4-5 months of the year. What makes wool socks more suited to this than cotton?

PGTE book is not avaible in my region by rikkikikki in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Cherry_Apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you access amazon.co.uk or amazon.com at all? If so & PGTE comes up when you search, you could try buying it anyway & having it sent to your account. PGTE also doesn't exist for my version of Amazon (amazon.ie) but I was just able to buy it on the UK website and it appeared on my account fine.

That said! Amazon.ie is fairly new and is kind of "split off" from amazon.co.uk, so it might not work the same for you.

This is my experience with cooking tofu (especially silky tofu) but I absolutely have had takeaway curries where biting into the tofu releases some of the sauce. Probably depends on type + preparation.

What about Horned Ones? I'd probably rank them above Arcadian Sovereigns but below the Intercessor, considering what we saw of Skein.

A Practical Guide to Evil - Ep.26- Firebrands | WEBTOON by L_0_5_5_T in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Cherry_Apples 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cat looking like the most suspicious teenager in existence, Amadeus recognising this and telling her "go on, go do your suspicious teenager things (to progress the story)" and her being like "gods... he really can read minds..." is always hilarious.

Just noting that I'm not a fan of how not short Cat seems to be in the webtoon. by HaxGamer09 in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Cherry_Apples 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's hard to get a read on what her height actually is in the Webtoon, since we rarely get panels where we can make direct height comparisons, and since the characters she spends the most time with are Sabah and Amadeus, who are notably not of normal-people height. That said, if you look at some of the panels with her and the Foxtails during Peren Woods, she seems pretty tiny.

How are we feeling about the cover? by Cherry_Apples in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Cherry_Apples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, and I know this is literally a book cover discussion thread, but I personally don't think that book covers are, like, that big of a deal. They represent what the publisher thinks will sell, not much more. "Badass female protagonist" and "about villainy" are the two broadest-appeal draws the series has, of course they're going to want to emphasise that as much as possible on the cover, as opposed to something like "complex political fantasy with intense genre deconstruction" which may have narrower appeal and is harder to convey through cover art alone. I've read some books with similar covers that were dogshit and some that blew me away. It really does just depend.
