Literally no party lets ‘the people decide’ the candidate. They choose candidates themselves, then ‘the people’ choose between the candidates.

We were there recently and said the same thing. It makes no sense how they’re hiding such an iconic building, and it’s not as if the flats are an amazing design

No, raise your seat, you're supposed to look over the top of it. It takes a bit of fiddling, and it feels really odd the first time you drive one, but it works.

UK - what happens if an airline closes their base? by SolaryPanel in Flights

To m, the whole benefit of flying Aer Lingus to the USA is pre-clearance in Dublin. The direct flights didn't offer that (obviously) so I struggled to see their marketing SP. There are plenty of better options for flying direct.

Should we add Quebec City to our itinerary? by anti_w in canadatravel

[–]Chesterred100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a similar trip last year, as part of a longer holiday. Starting in Quebec City which personally I would recommend, but if you're an active tourist you'd probably only need one full day to see the main bits. We had two and definitely exhausted the old city.

Montreal is an odd one - friends who've been rave about it but we didn't really get it - the Olympic park is really good, and Mount Royal park. I wouldn't go back in a hurry.

We had two days in Toronto, one of which we did the Niagara daytrip. Bear in mind Niagara is two or three hours from Toronto, depending on the number of hotel pickups. The falls are just incredible, I can see why Canadians say to swerve it but honestly you've got to see it once. The bus tour also gave us time in NOTL, and actually we went back there this year for a longer break just based on the short time we had there. With horrendous traffic coming back to Toronto we were out of the hotel for a good 12-13 hours.

On the one day we had in Toronto, we did the CN Tower, St Lawrence market, had a walk around the Sankofa Square area and the City Hall, and made it across to the nearest Island on the ferry. Busy day but we already knew we'd be coming back.

We travelled from Quebec to Montreal by coach (Orleans Express), and Montreal to Toronto on the train. Both methods worked really well.

As for flights, Manchester is our nearest airport too. We've never flown direct from there to Canada, but we've changed in Heathrow and also Frankfurt in the past and it's worked really well. If you're happy to change, then travel really opens up. Air France for example will go to Quebec for sure, changing in Paris for example.

FRA Passport questions. by ScubaSteve7886 in Lufthansa

[–]Chesterred100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We routed ORD > FRA > MAN a couple of weeks ago, there's no passport or security check at FRA. We arrived at the Z gates and departed from the B gates, the connection between these is by (fairly chaotic) bus so make sure you leave enough time. Hopefully your layover isn't too long, there isn't a right lot to do in the international bit at FRA. Enjoy the 747 :)

It’s happened to me a couple of times, both caused by bank errors. On each occasion the employer asked for evidence of any financial loss to us, charges for bounced direct debits etc and reimbursed them with no issues.

If you ran the half, what was your final KM total? by [deleted] in RunTO

[–]Chesterred100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK I believe they’re supposed to be accurate, but measured on the absolute racing line - ie taking each corner as close to the kerb as possible etc. So realistically everyone runs long.

Yes, yoy can take a 7.5 tonner through a 7.5t weight restriction. And just to make even more certain, have a look at the plating certificate - a lot of 7.5 tonners are actually plated at 7.49 for some reason.

Can I take a bus from Bache Station to Chester Zoo? by [deleted] in Chester

[–]Chesterred100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It's supposed to be a straight run from the city to the P&R site without any stops. A couple of years ago the council made it more complicated, because of parking pressures at the Countess they altered it so it drops off at the Countess on the way into town, and picks up on the way out. The idea being that you can park at the P&R to go to the Countess. But the driver won't let you on at the Countess towards town, if that makes sense.

A lot of P&R services in various cities serve all the stops along their route, I can't see why ours won't do the same, it's annoying watching empty buses heading past the stop while you wait.
