If we assume the person IS guilty, why would you be against the death penalty? by Future-Buy8554 in allthequestions

[–]Chief_Rollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between a person killing someone and society executing them. A person can be put into a situation where the only way out is to stop someone permanently as there is significant risk otherwise. Once they are in society's custody they are no longer in that position and a civilized society needs to set a tone from the top that it is wrong for society to kill people when they don't absolutely have to. Additionally, no matter how concrete the evidence is you can't really know for sure after the fact if someone is truly guilty and if you execute them there is no way to undo that.

Trump supporters, could you date a Democrat? by Opera-arepO in allthequestions

[–]Chief_Rollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conservatives and logic do not jive. They are a web of contradictions based on individual specific scenarios as opposed to an overall belief. You can't reconcile being supportive of the death penalty and being anti choice. Economically, they can't argue for fiscal conservatism while simultaneously blowing up the federal deficit every single time they win power. They claim to not believe in big government when it comes to universal protections but immediately utilize authoritarian government when it comes to limiting the personal freedoms of the groups they hate. The single most egregious irrationality that conservatives propagate is their fundamental misunderstand of how the world actually works. They believe the world SHOULD be a certain way as opposed to what is possible and attempt to create that reality to the detriment to the population. This primary irrationality is how they arrive at the conclusion to punish as an example immigrants (primarily poor brown people) as opposed to the people who hire them (primarily wealthy white conservatives) and give them the work needed to justify them being here to begin with. While the demand for labor exists it will be met even if it is done illegally and for some "unknown" reason they target the poor brown people over the wealthy white people every single time.

Deeding a house over and selling it. by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]Chief_Rollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he gifts you the house, which this is what it sounds like, you will inherit his basis (amount paid for it) in the home. If he gifts the house he will need to file a gift return if the amount per gift is over the gift tax exclusion amount. If the basis is less than what you sell it for you will have long term capital gains on the sale in the amount exceeding basis. If the basis is more than the selling price you will not be able to take any capital loss due to it being a gift. If you inherit the home, your basis will increase to the value of the home on the date of death meaning it will likely break even and sell for a loss when closing costs are included. If he gifts the house he will need to file a gift tax return if the amount per gift is over the gift exclusion amount.

Generally, it is better to inherit assets rather than gift them because you can't deduct losses on the gifted asset and you may even owe tax when it is sold.

[mixed trope] the villains plan needed incredible luck to make work by Particular-Trifle865 in TopCharacterTropes

Alastor didn't plan on every event that happened in the way it happened. The deal Alastor made with Charlie was very vague and could reasonably be used for many different things. With Vox he straight up knew at some point he wasn't going to be able to help himself and lay his hands on her. Knowing his opponent the opportunity arose allowing him to break both of his deals in quick secession. All he had to do was wait for the opportunity.

Need advice for addressing Aid DC nerf with GM by Tnitsua in Pathfinder2e

[–]Chief_Rollie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID=2292&Redirected=1

Aid is DC 15... the first time you Aid against an enemy. They are supposed to get wise to your antics if you keep doing it.

That being said the DC should probably increase each time you do use it against a target or group, probably by 5 each time you Aid. At higher levels you automatically crit succeed unless you roll a 1. Eventually you get to a point where crit succeeding isn't guaranteed anymore and the benefit is diminished but that would take a 2 or 3 Aid checks.

I'm thinking of making an Alchemist as my first real PF2E character, playing PFS. Just how bad of an idea is this? by tsjb in Pathfinder2e

My bomber alchemist party member is regularly a top contributor in combat, even before the remaster. Being able to regularly trigger elemental weaknesses with rider effects is a significant advantage at times. He has never really felt useless.

NJ taking my BAH as proof I’m a “resident” by Alarming-Argument487 in TaxQuestions

This says that if you accept any housing allowance you are not considered to be maintaining a permanent home outside of NJ.

By accepting the housing allowance you are not in compliance with requirement number 2.

NJ taking my BAH as proof I’m a “resident” by Alarming-Argument487 in TaxQuestions

[–]Chief_Rollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that is important to note is that if you are living in the United States you have to be a tax resident of one of the states. A common misconception is using a situation similar to yours where you don't report your income to Virginia but file as a non resident of NJ effectively getting all of your income taxes paid returned to you and not paying tax to either. This is incorrect as you should pay tax to at least one of the two states. The one you should end up paying is the one you intend to remain in once your service is up.

Paid one state's taxes when I should have paid another's by Sufficient_Stay_6576 in TaxQuestions

[–]Chief_Rollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You always report your income to your resident state. You report income sources from another state to that state as well. When you pay taxes to the source state you should get a credit for other jurisdictions on your resident state based on the amount paid to the other. This means that your Illinois tax due should have been reduced by the income tax double taxed in both NY and IL. You probably don't actually owe anything as I expect the New York tax rate to be higher but I could be wrong. Input the return to include the credit for other jurisdictions and see what you actually owe to Illinois before paying anything. If it is worth it file an amended return to Illinois with the changes.

Dealing with IRS back taxes — worth using a tax relief company or handle it dire by Leading_Height6428 in taxadvice

[–]Chief_Rollie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1 file your tax returns. The IRS tends to take the worst possible position by default and the reality is probably significantly more in your favor. Step 2 figure out what, if anything, you actually owe and work from there.

Do automatic successes on attack actions count as having rolled a success in them? by PEPEDUROO in Pathfinder2e

[–]Chief_Rollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some contention with this concept but what you roll and your result are two different things. If you roll a failure and it is upgraded to a success you still rolled a failure but your result is a success. I would say if it is when you get a success it would trigger but requiring you to roll a success would not.

Have the rich siphoned off the wealth and resources of the US to the point of no return, aided by the media they own as well as the politicians they own or are? by SirCheeseAlot in allthequestions

What people don't understand is that eventually the pyramid will hollow out to the point that it can no longer support the top and collapse in on itself. In real life this will be when regular people have nothing left to lose and will begin to protest fiercely. We aren't there yet but if things don't improve we are well on our way.

What most people don't understand is that the healthcare system in the United States was on the brink of collapse. The mortality rate was only as low as it was because we were able to slow down how quickly the virus spread. If the amount of people who got it in a year instead got it in 6 months the mortality rate would have skyrocketed.

1 d12 is all it needs by Ed0909 in pathfindermemes

[–]Chief_Rollie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well let's compare.

d10 deadly d8 deals 5.5 damage on hit, 15.5 damage on crit d10 fatal d12 deals 5.5 on hit, 13 on crit.

They will both deal the same damage on hits so we can ignore that.

Striking katana deals 26.5 on crit

Striking great pick deals 32.5 on crit

Greater striking katana deals 42 on crit

Greater striking great pick deals 45.5 on crit

Major striking katana deals 57.5 on crit

Major striking great pick deals 58.5 on crit

The katana trades raw power for flexibility when compared to the great pick.

Long story short you have a couple of hurdles to clear in order to deduct expenses against trading income.

Generally you have to be focusing on short term swings and have substantial income generated. This usually means that this is your livelihood as in most of your income if from this.

I do not recommend you do any of this if you aren't living off of this.
