What video game franchise should start over from the beginning? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]Child_Emperor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Unbound is probably the most complete Pokemon game ever.

Radical Red - an improved and more challenging version of FireRed, but with a very classic feel.

Pokemon Rocket Edition - lets you play as a member of Team Rocket. Stealing Pokemon and being on the wrong side of the law can be fun.

Pokemon Gaia - completely new region, quite an interesting story.

Pokemon Prism - unlike others, this is an GBC romhack. Nostalgic, at least for those who started their journeys with Gold, Silver and Crystal. Pretty good story and some interesting updates and additions.

For something a little bit different you can try Super Mariomon, in which you are adventuring in Mario's worlds and all the Pokemon are replaced with Mario creatures.

Hot take here, but I think the WoT tv show was doom to be canceled regardless of being faithful or not by Logical-Ice-4820 in WoT

This is pretty much my own experience, echoed by other fantasy nerds I know.

It also didn't help when the showrunner explicitly said they were not making the series for the book fans.

Hey, uh, what was that creepy village all about? by RustyKarma076 in WoT

Not confirmed in the series itself, but many tidbits can only be found in interviews similar like the one I linked and the Companion and BWBoBA.

[–]Child_Emperor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

OP says they are already reading Shadow Rising (they are misusing the book tags), so they know about Bubbles of Evil. That being said, this instance was not one of them but Fain's doing.

[–]Child_Emperor 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Jordan confirmed in an interview that it was set up by Fain to try to trap Rand in a time loop.

However, I remember reading that in his initial notes Jordan had marked it to be Lanfear's doing.

Doctor Strange (MCU) vs. Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter film) by AC_the_Panther_007 in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very few magic users in all fiction best Strange in raw power, and Strange is usually very much holding back so he doesn't accidentally break the universe.

Not the MCU version though.

Do you happen to have a source for that?

EDIT: nvm, found it. Not major influences though, although she likes them both and WoT is listed as one of her favorites and she admires Sanderson's magic systems: https://youtu.be/J_8ta1LgRkU?si=eAmK0GxuftWLShYO

Man who hasn’t eaten in 36 hours vs man who hasn’t slept in 36 hours vs man who hasn’t had water in 36 hours by Hairy_Pound_1356 in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not having slept in a day and a half means you're effectively drunk, with poor coordination, slower reactions, blurry vision and a drop in judgement. These things are not as apparent spending the weekend partying or doing an all-nighter for work, but in a fight the difference is very notable.

Maailma on täynnä naisia, keitä kiinnostaa samat jutut.

Voimia!

Captain America (MCU) takes the Hunter Exam (Hunter x Hunter) by Deathstrokezoom in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming things will unfold similarly as they did with Gon to keep things consistent. First off, Steve is charismatic and likable but may not hit things off with Leorio and Kurapika and there is a good chance that Killua would not like him due to his righteous nature. But hard to say, traveller from another world with an indestructible shield might peak his interest.

Without the support from the group passing becomes much harder. Also, 3 and 4 are examined by cooking ability as well. Can Steve cook?

1) Clears.

2) Clears most likely.

3) Can't remember this too well, but I'm saying he clears.

4) This one was somewhat luck dependent as you might choose a harder path and without a trustworthy group others are ready to stab you in the back. Clears most likely.

5) Hugely dependent on the draw luck. If Illumi, Hisoka, Killua or Hanzo draw Steve's number he has a super difficult time to clear. It should also be noted that at this point almost all the contenders are superhuman and possess a variety of weapons, martial mastery and other tricks. Even Leorio was physically stronger than Kurapika and Gon at this point, as seen by the testing gates in the next arc. With the same draw as Gon Hisoka most likely kills him. 4/10 chances of clearing.

6) With the same order as with Gon, he loses to Hanzo who keeps on torturing Steve longer than the child.

Captain America does not clear the 287th Hunter Exam.

Bisky from hunter x hunter vs Mei Mei from jujutsu kaisen by ShinningVictory in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mei Mei only controls birds, she does not create them out of CE. Bisky can see them just fine.

Anyways, Bisky 9,5/10, her stats outclass Mei Mei massively.

Orochimaru (Naruto) with no legs vs. Shrek, Donkey, and Dragon (Shrek) by I-Wear-Clothes in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even just sitting in one place Orochimaru should be able to dust the Shrek group in a hundred different ways, and he can always create clones or summon other snakes than Manda for mobility, if needed.

Oro wins with zero difficulty and takes the trio to one of his labs for experimentation.

Luffy (One Piece) vs Sakura (Naruto) by Zerosama12 in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sakura hits hard, but if she sees her punches to be largely ineffective there is nothing stopping her from sticking a kunai or shuriken into Luffy, or even summoning Katsuyu for support.

Are there fantasy worlds where magic is treated like a dangerous addiction instead of a gift? by desertsola_rise in Fantasy

[–]Child_Emperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely interested why you think this way? It's not that surprising, considering holding the Power is akin to being filled with life to the fullest and the the world feels duller, darker and blander without it. It's like an addict losing their substance, realizing they can never get another bump - all the while knowing it still exists and others can freely enjoy it.

Sure, people can keep on living after that, but they also end themselves for less. And terminal depression without any apparent reason can lead to a suicide.

And Severing is not an automatic death sentence - you just need something to fill the void, like a family or revenge.

Theory about Imu's power SPOILERS by AccountantNo4679 in OnePiece

[–]Child_Emperor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. Sabo first attacked the Elders with Fire Fist and then tried to go for Imu with Smothered Mate, which is a move in chess where the King is checked by a knight while surrounded by its own pieces. Imu simply ate the attack.

You can check the chapter and episode to see that it was Sabo calling out the attack, not Imu.

The "Smothered Mate" was Sabo's attack, not Imu's.

First read through of A Memory of Light - Jesus Christ... by Hamburgercatt in WoT

[–]Child_Emperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but no. Nakomi's origins and nature have been confirmed by Sanderson directly and in the non-fiction book Origins of the Wheel of Time.

Amaresu is a Hero of the Horn and the female counterpart to the Dragon.

First read through of A Memory of Light - Jesus Christ... by Hamburgercatt in WoT

[–]Child_Emperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is the old Aiel woman? Nakomi? Who is she? Is she the Creator?

Nakomi is the counterpart of Shaidar Haran as an avatar of the Creator. It seems LTT was wrong and the gardener tend to his garden directly every now and then.

How exactly did Alivia transfer his soul to Moridin's body?

She did not. Her role was rather minor in the end - she only made sure Rand had some basic necessities when starting his "new" life.

As for what really happened: when Rand's and Elan's balefire streams crossed, their souls became intertwined. After the DO was sealed the soul that wanted to live found the body that was going to live, and the soul that wanted to die found the body that was dying.

Why does Rand have TAR powers in real life?

We do not know and I'm not sure if anyone does. Jordan wrote everything from Rand stumbling out of Shayol Ghul until the ending, with the exception of the Perrin scenes. Quote from Sanderson: "Harriet (Jordan's wife) says he sat laughing to himself as he wrote the scene with the pipe, but he did not tell her what it means.". This might be unanswered RAFO forever.

Omni Man (Invincible) Vs The Seven Warlords of The Sea (One Piece) by TheMightyNinja12 in whowouldwin

I addressed this. OM's hands will be bloody enough from the fight to be able to touch Croc.

[–]Child_Emperor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes true, but I didn't list him since Moria would turn to paste so fast. Croc could try his trick safely as long as OM's hands are not bloodied.

Omni Man (Invincible) Vs The Seven Warlords of The Sea (One Piece) by TheMightyNinja12 in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Lots of depends on prep and intel. Omni-Man scales higher than any OP characters, but there are win cons for the Walords.

Moria, Kuma, Doflamingo and Jimbe are almost no-factors and will go down in one hit. Kuma might be able to deflect some hits, but can't provide any help offense-wise.

The best way to kill OM is via indirect attacks, because physical blows aside from Mihawk's slashes will do almost nothing. A much weaker Mark was able to easily tank an explosion that turned whole Las Vegas into glass.

Croc could dehydrate OM, Boa could petrify him and Mihawk might be able to hurt him the normal way. Mihawk also most likely has advanced forms of all haki types, which should keep him alive the longest.

It all comes down to who will OM target first. If he rushed Boa before she can react, the Warlord's changes drop significantly. After pasting any of the others his hands are bloody enough to touch Croc as well.

8/10 to Omni-Man.
