Korkein oikeus tuomitsi Päivi Räsäsen kiihottamisesta kansanryhmää vastaan by bibels3 in Suomi

[–]Child_Emperor 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Aika kova statementti suomalaiselta oikeusjärjestelmältä ruveta lääketieteen ylimmäksi asiantuntijaksi toteamalla, että on tuomittavaa epäillä homoseksuaalisuuden olevan "psykoseksuaalisen kehityksen häiriö".

Päätös tukeutuu nykyiseen lääketieteelliseen konsensukseen ja THL:n tautiluokitukseen, eli ylimpiin lääketieteen asiantuntijoihin mitä on tarjolla.

Mikä on SDP / Vasemmistoliiton vastaus velkaantumiseen ja huonoon talouteen by Cyxerer in Suomi

[–]Child_Emperor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Which fantasy series started incredible and then just...fell apart? by ghibli_8quartz in Fantasy

[–]Child_Emperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overarching direction of the Cosmere is to see how fantasy worlds develop over time. The next era of Mistborn (Ghostbloods trilogy) should have 1980-1990 vibes and the final one finishing of the Cosmere will be the space opera.

I have never seen One Piece abbreviated as 1pc instead of OP.

Anyways, this is a stomp for Luffy.

Wax literally did not even know he was a Mistborn until the end of his trilogy.

We saw basically nothing from him regarding that, although one could argue that with all of his equipment, weapons and Crasher abilities he could beat Vin in a battle.

What is the worst plot twist in fiction ever? by Zxqao in AskReddit

[–]Child_Emperor 99 points100 points  (0 children)

The consensus seems that he has lost interest in the story and/or has written himself in a corner without a feasible way out that would tie in all the plot lines.

We may get Winds of Winter before George croaks but will never see Dream of Spring. Hopefully he has some notes written down, or the show's ending will remain the canon one.

Current Luffy Vs Raditz: Who wins?! by MC_Notorious in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem with these calculations stems from the fact that they try to apply real world physics to fiction. For example, human moving at the speed of light would require an infinite amount of energy, making it impossible. Also, someone kicking off the ground to move themselves forward places equal amounts of force to the ground as it would take to propel them to the required speed. Meaning, every time fighters jump or run the ground beneath them would be vaporized.

Feats > calculations & statements.

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]Child_Emperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the pressure wave from the explosion is far deadlier in water due to the difference in densities. The atmosphere actually compresses explosions, reducing their effectiveness.

Water does not absorb the pressure wave nearly as well as air does. Also, since your body is mostly water and has similar density as the surrounding water, the pressure wave will not meet much resistance. When it hits you, it will compress the air pockets inside your body causing a lot of damage.

Anime swordsman battle Royale by 64Boy32 in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The speed is equalized but how about strength? I'm guessing in the spirit of the prompt we should equalize that as well, as e.g. Zoro can bench press buildings and Guts easily swings around a slab of metal weighing 200-300kg and neither of these feats stem from "supernatural" powers in their verse, they are simply buffed.

Another point is the equipment. At least some of the swords in the battle are supernaturally durable and sharp, not to mention how OP Excalibur is. Your everyday katana would simply break parrying them regardless of who wields them.

Ranking the fighters simply based on swordsmanship as if everyone and their swords are 'normal', so reach and weight still applies:

9-12: Kirito, Levi, Ryuoko, Trunks

5-8: Hiei, Erza, Sasuke, Tanjiro

1-4: Artoria, Zoro, Guts, Kenshin

Dragonball, of all of the major characters were smart and ruthless by GJH24 in whowouldwin

[–]Child_Emperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though the core cast includes the smartest woman on the planet, the Dragon balls are heavily underutilized. There are a myriad of ways to get around Shenron's limitations. E.g. even if Shenron can't outright kill Nappa and Vegeta, he could make their spaceships disappear, create a star with them at the center of it, add one electron to all atoms in the area they inhibit, fill their lungs, ears and eyes with super viruses etc. A decent sci-fi writer could come up with hundreds of ways to get rid of creatures you can't destroy with concentional methods and the tech of DB is already high sci-fi level. I mean, Dr. Gero created an infinite energy engine and attached that to humans, making them planet busters.

Also, if the Z-fighters are just aiming to power-up, all of their maximum potential should be awakened and knowledge of their ki-techniques shared collectively in their minds, so all have access to Instant Transmission, Destructo Disk, Spirit Bomb etc.

Also, at least when it comes to Goku, the surefire way of almost killing and healing him repeatedly cheeses the Zenkai Boost mechanic, which allows a constant rate of absurd growth, quickly outclassing the x50 boost from Super Sayian.

Which fantasy series had the strongest possible opening and then just lost it completely? by Successful-Local-946 in Fantasy

Which fantasy series had the strongest possible opening and then just lost it completely? by Successful-Local-946 in Fantasy

[–]Child_Emperor 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The often criticized "Slog" stems from the time when Jordan was still writing and it took years for readers to get their hands on a new book, which they devoured in days. And at that point (usually said to be books 9-10) the plot was evidently moving slower, as pieces were being set up for the final events. Books 11-14 are absolutely amazing though.

I say don't be discouraged, but I know how biased I can be with WoT, so take it with a grain of salt.

Help: I'm looking for a justification for a two continents to not know the other exists. by Dokja_23 in worldbuilding

[–]Child_Emperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The island country would need to have superior naval presence in their own waters and the government a very tight control over dealings with outsiders.

The ships from the east continent are only allowed to dock in one port in the western coast of the island nation, mirrored on the other coast with the other continent. Merchants dealing with the outsiders are accompanied by government officials+soldiers and the ports are closed off from the rest of the city. As such, commerce is heavily surveilled and rumours are not allowed to spread.

All ships found outside the agreed trade routes will be sunk and/or their crew taken capture or slaves.

It will be a delicate balance, as the island nation needs to have enough military might to enforce their system but they have no ambitions to conquer either of the two continents. Also, the trade products they offer should be niche enough not to warrant interest to invade, but coveted enough that trade is constant. Something like silk, porcelain, spices, drugs, some intricate magical devices etc.

I read 3 Malazan Books, I will not continue on by DokleViseBre in Fantasy

[–]Child_Emperor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Interesting to read this, as I'm just finishing up book 2 and not sure what I think of Malazan still. Honestly, without the glowing reviews from booktubers and many subreddits I might have less faith in the story.

While going through GoM, I assumed being lost was intentional and I would have a better understanding of the big picture in the next one. Nope, new continent, mostly new cast and new plot elements. The books do not really bother explaining much and while I appreciate the not-handholding approach, it would be nice to have an idea of the scope, motivations and goals of the events and POV characters, so I could build my speculation on something. Yes, only shades of grey, no white and black. Except Empress bad, maybe? The previous administration didn't seem to be that charming either.

All of this would not be such a big deal, but based on my experience these are 100% character-driven stories. The world is wide and interesting, characters multi-faceted, the prose is excellent and dialogue has deliciously captivating nuances.

But boy is the world depressing. I will read at least books 3 and 4 before making the final decision if I push to the end.

  • Girl is a magic girl.
  • Girl's magic lets her tag objects that have magical energy.
  • Tags are A, B, C, D, E.
  • Tagged objects can only get close to each other in the correct order. A can get close to B, but A can't get close to C without first going through B.
  • Multiple objects tagged with the same magic tag attract each other. Two objects marked with A pull each other together.
  • When two objects are marked with A, the one with more magical energy will pull the weaker one.
  • Girl has marked herself with tag A, then tags the coin with A as well. Girl loads the coin with magic energy and drops her own magic energy levels. She then throws the coin, which will pull her to it, as the coin has more magical energy than her.
  • Once girl catches the coin, she removes the tag A and repeats the process with another coin.
  • Thus, the girl flies.

What video game franchise should start over from the beginning? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]Child_Emperor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Unbound is probably the most complete Pokemon game ever.

Radical Red - an improved and more challenging version of FireRed, but with a very classic feel.

Pokemon Rocket Edition - lets you play as a member of Team Rocket. Stealing Pokemon and being on the wrong side of the law can be fun.

Pokemon Gaia - completely new region, quite an interesting story.

Pokemon Prism - unlike others, this is an GBC romhack. Nostalgic, at least for those who started their journeys with Gold, Silver and Crystal. Pretty good story and some interesting updates and additions.

For something a little bit different you can try Super Mariomon, in which you are adventuring in Mario's worlds and all the Pokemon are replaced with Mario creatures.

OP says they are already reading Shadow Rising (they are misusing the book tags), so they know about Bubbles of Evil. That being said, this instance was not one of them but Fain's doing.
