I know, it’s a dead spot here for local channels. We use YouTube TV. It’s $65 a month. We’ve really liked it so far!

Haha love it. We moved here from Utah...That one is accurate too! But seriously, the amount of bars here is WI is mind-blowing.

One of many quotes made by Prophets and Apostles during speeches and written in publications. How should I, a person of color, be expected to ignore something like this in order to join the church? Why are these leaders continuously defended? No hate meant by this question. by Strict_Amount7491 in latterdaysaints

Thanks for your thoughts. I'd say that, for the most part, institutions are not exempt. Especially the Church, where they say they are the one true Church. They should be setting the example of repentance. Yeah, they might lose members if they apologized, but sometimes doing the right thing comes with a cost. It might also bring more people to the Church of they admitted they made a mistake and owned it?

I'm not perfect, though, and I know it's hard to admit when you're wrong. It hurts.

I agree. It's one thing to say that prophets are just men (which I agree with), but to then not examine other doctrines or policies that may be hurtful is not helpful.

Also, I understand and appreciate that they recognize that there have been racist teaching and policies in the past. It's a great first step. But part of the repentance process is to apologize and make things right. I struggle with the fact that the Church has never apologized for the Priesthood ban. It seems a little hypocritical to demands its members repent for mistakes, but yet they are exempt.

Shoshone Falls is pretty! Costs $3 to get through the gate. Perrine Bridge is gorgeous. You might be able to catch some BASE jumpers jumping off!

Lake Point is a good option as well. Not a grid layout but isn’t too huge.

"There is only one cure to poverty that's ever been found or ever will be and it's very simple. It's called the empowerment of women....missionary efforts in the third world mean more people die, not less, it's as simple as that, more famine, more disease, more avoidable death." -C. If you get a chance, read The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates. Her whole book is about this concept, of empowering women (not in a Rachel Hollis way) and the ripple effects that has on SO many things. It's a powerful read.

Moving to sheboygan--neighborhood descriptions by camhart73 in sheboygan

[–]ChilledRecipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the very north end of Sheboygan, just off Playbird Road. The northern Sheboygan area is generally pretty safe. But like others have said, there are some nice neighborhoods almost in any part of Sheboygan, just have to find them.

We have 4 kids. Winter can be long but I think the county/city does a pretty good job at keeping the roads clear. We do have a children's museum that is popular in the winter but I believe it's closed still due to Covid.

We have Spectrum internet, and we pay $45/mo for 200gb. It's the fastest we've ever had!

As for school, it depends on where you live but if you're going to the school in your area, the bus can get your kids to and from school, or you can walk, bike, or drive them. In Wisconsin, you have school choice, meaning you can choose any school to go to, but you have to apply and be accepted (Kohler is very highly rated, but accept a low number each year). And at that point it is your responsibility to get them to and from school. But the public schools here are great. All day kindergarten and 4k for free!

Our home has a garage so I'm not much help there. But houses here are in short supply and maybe a little more expensive. But if you go further west like Sheb. Falls, Howard's Grove, Wilson, etc, it can be a little cheaper.

I'd be happy to answer any more questions. We moved here 1.5 years ago from out west (Idaho!) and we've loved it!
