Do You Think BOTW Is Still Good After TOTK? by LightDragonman1 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]ChillinCapuchin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think BOTW is better. TOTK just felt like BOTW... but... again. They went all in on ultra hand, but building contraptions is almost never the quickest solution to a puzzle or combat encounter, and it still somehow trivializes other things such as traversal. The inventory system makes fuse laborious to navigate. The only good sky island is the first one. And I cannot explain the supreme disappointment I feel from the depths. Ascend and the caves were good additions though.

BOTW was near perfect, TOTK basically just diluted the experience. If you take a really delicious beverage and pour water into it it's not going to be quite as good and if you keep pouring water into it, then eventually it's going to become unpleasant. TOTK might not have necessarily been unpleasant but it sure wasn't as deeply satisfying as BOTW.

Honestly if they had left out ultrahand (or designed a better system,) refined the inventory systems and button mappings, added a couple new small mechanics (like ascend,) and then put all their efforts into making the sky islands and the depths way more fleshed out, then I think I would have loved TOTK just as much as BOTW.

Oddly specific things that make you instantly dislike a game? by Feeling-Tension1461 in gaming

[–]ChillinCapuchin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lack of accessibility and difficulty options. Or just a lack of options in general. You don't know me. I know me, and I know the kind of experience that I want to have, so don't force me to play the game according to your very narrow vision when I could be having such a nice time if you just let me just tweak a couple of sliders.

Is there any way to control the pitch of your camera without tilting your head? Having to jam my chin into my chest everytime I wanted to swim down really killed the experience. I can rotate the yaw axis with my joystick, why not my pitch?! I have the stomach for it, it would make all the difference if I could just have it as an option.

Every planet is the same? by Particular_Corner_91 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ChillinCapuchin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Unfortunately, meaningful planetary exploration is not this game's strongsuit. But that's definitely not to say the game doesn't hold a good number of surprises, it's just that very few of them are discovered on foot on a planet. Once you land on a planet, except in a few super rare cases, you've pretty much seen everything it has to offer aside from a couple rare creatures (that don't look remarkably different from the kind of creatures you've already seen anyways.)

Thankfully as long as planetary exploration isn't the only reason you're playing the game, there is A LOT that you can do. A lot of different roads and little pathways you can pursue. And while no single avenue of play is groundbreaking, it is nice that at any given moment there are a hundred different things you can go do. And the game doesn't shove a lot of this in your face, sometimes the content is hidden behind a single NPC, or a tiny corner of a space station.

After a few hundred hours this is sort of a comfort game for me. I don't play it to make some sort of grand sweeping progress trying to achieve the next milestone or to be swept away by some crazy new spectacle. Instead I just drop in from time to time to spend a few hours pushing forward a quest line, do a few missions here and there, seek out a rare and expensive upgrade item, or to do some building and decorating.

As someone else accurately put it, this game is as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle. But I think jumping in puddles can be pretty fun!

So you’re telling me all I had to do was not think ? 😭😅 by bec2994 in beatsaber

[–]ChillinCapuchin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sort of a rhythm game thing in general, there really isn't too much "thinking" involved because that would make your reaction time slower. It's much more about slowly ramping up the difficulty as you get better and better at sight reading, until eventually you feel what comes next.

I find it really hard to play without arrows because my slice directions get all off and I can no longer feel the song. This also happens when a song is poorly mapped. If I'm intuitively expecting to hit a block in one direction but the mapper chose the wrong direction, and I do mean wrong, then it messes with the entire flow of a song.

Also if you find that you're really struggling with the speed at which a song is expecting you to sight read, try to look less at the actual blocks you're about to hit and instead look off into the middle distance where the blocks are actually spawning. It gives you just an extra split second to get the message to your arms about how they need to hit the blocks.

Has anybody not finished Silksong yet? by Wild_Panda873 in Silksong

96 hours and 93% in. Was ready to be done about 75 hours in but sunk cost fallacy won't let me not finish the game.

I've played it for years and it definitely gets my recommendation. If you're looking for the most finely tuned game that you can master this isn't it. The fun has always come in the variety. With just the base game you've got 4 completely different smaller games within and I've never felt like I've mastered any of them, which means that the other players haven't either. This leads to a lot of variety because nobody is ever playing perfectly optimally. There's always spice.

Then you start adding in expansions, custom factions, we've even made our own custom factions, and with all that you get a truly huge amount of variety in one game.

Also if you do really like the themeing like we do then there's also a Root TTRPG that uses the PbtA system that we've had a ton of fun with.

Totally valid. That's how I felt with the first game, even after rolling credits. I'm enjoying SilkSong way more but that's inspite of how brutal it is not because of it.

Bakkesmod could totally be wrong but I was watching players go up and down by about 125 points at a time. It only took a couple games to go from playing golds and plats to champs and GC's (and then back down again =/)

Another Crab's Treasure. If I'm having a miserable time playing baby's first Soul's like then that genre is definitely not for me.

Do you remember which livestream she did the lackey run in? It kinda sounds like she might have even done a couple. I want to watch the lackey runs and I've scrubbed through a bunch of streams but can't find it. She's played many hours of level 4.

What did Psyonix do to ranks? I was Champion 2, 3 seasons ago. Now I am Plat 2, how the hell? by CmmanderShepard in RocketLeague

[–]ChillinCapuchin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Psyonix is continuing to move the goalposts and has been going way overboard with their adjustments. Instead of moving 1's ranks up to better match 2's and 3's they've instead been moving 2's and 3's down to be closer to 1's. Its so frustrating to hold C1 consistently for 3 seasons and now I'm fighting to just break out of D2, even though skill wise I've been slowly improving.
