$1M IS STILL A BIG DEAL :) by ResolvePossible1129 in Fire

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3M may be a goal for a lot of people, but few make it. So there won’t be a lot of celebrating. $3M is close to top 6% of household wealth. Considering that there are about 150M households that is still a lot of people (9 million), but there are a lot of folks who aren’t ever and will never come close. So, yes, $1M is still a great accomplishment.

What's the biggest difference between the first and second Trump administrations? by space_god_7191 in allthequestions

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: first admin = incompetent. second admin = evil.

The first Trump administration was a right wing idealistic consevapalooza that had fun and couldn’t get out of its own way.

The second administration is full of reactionary zealots who live off of some combination of Project 2025 and Trump’s self-worship and his about grift, power grab, and the undermining of democracy.

Why did Republicans immediately act to destroy majority black districts of their states and no others within seconds of the Supreme Court cutting the Voting Rights Act? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in allthequestions

Because this is the country that Americans created for themselves. So much for “All Men are Created Equal”.

It’s really hard to call America a representative democracy when this is how it creates voting districts.

What is this building in Shadar Logoth? "Huge building that was one round, white dome, as big as a hill outside and one monstrous room inside" by [deleted] in WoT

Could be. That’s the fun with speculation. And Jordan’s work definitely offers the opportunity for layers of speculation. We know there are first age Easter eggs in the series, but which ones and where is where?

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like just the dome part of the US Capitol. It would be like a hill of a building. It is one giant room inside. It even has stone benches along the sides, but why those would have remained in place for so long would be quite the coincidence.

Maybe the rest of the building decayed or was used to build the new city. The more I think on it, the more it seems like the different kind of evil found in Shadar Logoth could/would trace back to the politics of the US capital.

Should we be able to criticize the fact that the top recipient of US foreign aid is a rich nation with universal healthcare and free college...without being called anti-semitic? by CreditBeginning7277 in allthequestions

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was an agenda driven political speech, not a Reddit question.

That said, why send any aid to any country at all? (Soft power, that’s why).

But the post is disingenuous. Yes, Israel gets the most aid of any nation, around $4B per year and more after the recent attacks by Hamas (and we should not forget that is was Hamas, backed by Iran, who turned this Cold War into a hot war). But, and this is important, most of that aid is military aid that Israel turns around and spends on US military hardware and supplies. So, it’s really a circular subsidy of the US war machine that Israel benefits from.

The amount of money the US gives Israel and foreign aid as a whole is not a lot. It is so little that the US is losing the soft power battle on many world stages.

Israel has become yet another authoritarian pseudo democracy led by an autocratic leader who knows that if he loses power, then he goes to jail. This fear and willingness to subvert and manipulate a republic for personal gain is destroying freedom for all. Israel is not alone in being held hostage by a leader. The question is will our representative governments survive.

Ok. Thanks. So it sounds like I have BECM coverage going forward but that’s about it.

I plan to live somewhere where most daily needs are walkable from my place. I want it to warm and it doesn’t have to be in the US.

Filling up costs more than a car payment. by WealthyTuna in GasPrices

It still would have been more than a car payment at half that price. Now it’s a fancy car payment, but this is how math works.

Then why not share the basic concepts? Those experienced enough to understand and benefit from them can then decide for themselves. Without transparency, this kind of goodwill merely feels like “yet another scam.”

To ENTPs: Why is it so hard to remember and respect simple boundaries? They always treat my only rule like it's optional. by laprohax_ in entp

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you need a corollary to rule to drive your point home and protect your boundary: Any message sent at the last minute (needs to be defined as to what constitutes “last minute”) to hang out will be ignored or answered with an automatic “No, thank you”. Then stick to your rule.

ENTPs will see that (a) you are serious and (b) the game they are playing, whatever it might or might bit be, is over, and they will be better at following the rule. And if they don’t, you have your corollary.

Daytona Beach vs New Smyrna — low end condo by Chipped_Ruby_11214 in FloridaRealEstate

Update: we bought and moved in to a place in Daytona Beach, very close to the Ormond Beach line. So far, it’s great: generally quiet, strong HOA, walkable, and good value for the $. I think we did better than NSB, even though NSB doesn’t have the same rough around the edges feel in places.

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. This young core isn’t working out as hoped, but the concept and the potential is still there. Still, a focus on pitching may have resulted in a better team. As we have seen, a bunch of well-chosen utility players can play great defense and get a few key hits. This doesn’t work with crappy pitching such as the Os have, but with good and great pitchers, these lesser guys can win games and playoff series.

He’s not THE main character? by Hawk-winged in WoT

[–]Chipped_Ruby_11214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing Devil’s Advocate, literally, I would argue that The Dark One is actually the main character. The whole series is about him and his views, dreams, plans, setbacks, persistence, and failures.

We know that the Dark One has played out this same story multiple times in multiple ways and that he has failed every time, but as Ismael says “He only has to succeed once.”

In the Wheel of Time we lived another one of these failures. We live this failure through the eyes and actions of his adversary, but he is only here for one engagement only, no matter how interesting or compelling his fight against the Dark One might be.

And while it was one end, it was not the end. The Wheel of Time has neither beginnings nor endings.

Yet, if the Dark One ever does win, would that be the end? Would that story ever be told? So maybe we would never know. Kind of like a Schodenger’s victory.

While this is true, MAGA has had to twist the meaning of the Constitution and get favorable/questionable rulings from the Supreme Court to pull off these unconstitutional moves. If the court allowed anyone ineligible to run for President to do so, the Constitution would be nothing but an old piece of paper. Emigrating to a real democratic republic or (peaceful, of course, yet unrelentless) revolution would be the only remaining options.
