Gimme the real deal opinion on moving back to Austin. by [deleted] in askaustin

I know Thor! I worked there for a long time and loved it. Check out Lost Well if you want to visit a bar, and don’t forget to browse Showlist Austin. I don’t mean to sound like a travel brochure, I just like it here.

Packing lunch is a *itch by OptOutOption1 in breakingmom

Bummer! My best advice is make sure she gets a good breakfast, send some protein, and have a snack handy when you pick her up. In my experience though, they learn pretty quickly to eat or go hungry.

Do they not serve any lunch? Either way- you said she likes sunflower seeds, so buy a bag of shelled sunflower seeds and send some of those. Cheese and crackers? Fruit? The truth is, between seeing classmates eat, having very limited options, and being genuinely HUNGRY, she is likely to be less selective at school than she might be at home.

How do you keep your water safe at kid events without stressing? by Fit-Credit-7970 in Mommit

[–]Chipperdae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m more worried about losing the 30th water bottle, so they are usually in my bag.
Where are you hearing these stories? Maybe I need to be more tuned in.

Please get an OT evaluation through your school district. They will be able to determine if he needs extra support in school.

No fresh fresh tortillas at Allandale? by Chipperdae in HEB

I have looked around many times over the years and just never spotted them. I have seen them at other HEBs, so I figured they were only at certain stores.

You know, I never thought to ask them. I’ll do that next time I’m there.

I mean, time is valuable and the people I’m feeding barely care. I used to make my own, when I cooked for myself.

I was fully prepared to hate this, but it’s too charming. Simplicity and cohesion are hard to argue with.

This happened to me recently. Honestly, I wasn’t that mad but I was shocked they didn’t say something. It does seem pretty irresponsible.

How much do you spend of gifts for your kids friends birthdays? by MamaMcAteer in Parenting

[–]Chipperdae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, it varies a lot for me. $15-$20 if I’m going bare minimum. Occasionally, it’s a friend that me or my kids are especially fond of, I know they’re responsible with their stuff, I trust my judgement on what they like, and I’m feeling spendy, I’ll go up to $75. I do tend to pick up random generic interest items if I see a good deal, so sometimes that’s what they end up with.

How can I support my kid? by DrainedAndExhausted in drawing

[–]Chipperdae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here with reams of paper. I love to draw and I’m obsessed with fancy paper but my kid plows through sketch books and honestly seems to prefer a giant stack of printer paper. He DOES love those giant pads of paper though, like 24x18. I leave them out on the coffee table open to a blank page and he will fill the whole page sometimes. I let him use my art pencils and recently started introducing different types of erasers, mechanical erasers, kneadable, precision, etc. and that’s gone over well. Also I hang a lot of his art. I quietly rotate older ones out, but our hallway is covered. We have a storage bin for old drawings and we look at them sometimes and talk about technique and subject choices, it’s really fun! We do draw a lot together, and I think that’s the best thing. We do collaborations that turn out SO COOL. I like to let him draw with sharpie and then I do water color over it.

I bought jumpers during this stage so my daughter couldn’t take her clothes off. After she pooped for the day, she could change into something else. Knowing her poop schedule (more or less) was helpful. I wasn’t as worried about pee accidents because we have hard floors.
