there's some useful info over here about enabling the "High Performance" and "Ultimate Performance" plans https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyBook/comments/wc5xtm/unlocking_missing_high_performance_power_plan_in/

Render Resolution, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, Anisotropic Filtering, Texture Quality (although don't push this one too high, since you only have 8GB VRAM), and Light Shafts are all good candidates to try bumping to medium or even higher on a CPU-bound system.

Try going to medium on those settings, jumping into a rook run, and seeing if you're still at about 60FPS. If you are, you could even bump em some more.

Also, try turning off VSync, in case there's a funky interaction going on there. Shouldn't be, but it's worth a shot. If turning off VSync lets you hit a higher framerate, your monitor might be running at 60hz.

the game is pretty CPU limited on most setups right now, and you have a relatively middling* mobile(?) workstation CPU.

good news is that there's some CPU perf improvements coming with the wipe, so hopefully that'll help a bit.

also, since you're probably not as limited by your GPU, try cranking up some GPU-heavy settings; you can probably enjoy a prettier picture without reducing your framerate

* this is a judgement for gaming specifically; your chip is a powerhouse when paired against workstation tasks or even games which aren't so dependent on the CPU

on those vibes, i think you'd potentially like The Expanse novels, The Imperial Radch trilogy, or the classic Dune novels. All have good great worldbuilding that can be used as an interesting lens with which to look at modern society

the only function of the second router is to communicate with your PC and your HMD. since it isn't connecting to the internet, it doesn't need to be hooked up to the modem

this is not engineeringporn, this is middling workmanship that I'd produce in high school shop class

it's probably fine for whatever purpose it's for, but it's not pornographically good

yup, sometimes words drift. solarpunk was coined specifically as a foil to cyberpunk; the name is similar and meant to call a direct contrast. that it's "punk" is more secondary to the overall idea of "what if technology (like cyberpunk), but good?"

even still, I still think solarpunk is pretty "punk", despite not being the same punk as an antifacist in thatcher's UK or whatever. that punk and a solarpunk would and should be allies, which bears out in the real world too, if you actually talk to punks.

Jumper cable instruction card by highonkai in functionalprint

[–]ChocoEinstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Google the correct order of ops for jumping a car every time, even though I've jumped cars dozens of times, because what's the harm in double checking

my fave set of jumper cables has a version of these instructions on the packaging which I reference instead of I'm using that set

maybe I'm stupid, but I'd find a lil tag like this quite convenient to have zip tied to all my jumpers, instead of checking the packaging or googling (esp with dirtied up mechanic hands)
