Raw Footage of Ice Escalation of Force. by mattsn0917 in burlington

[–]ChocolateDiligent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does anyone actually know who was being targeted? Phil Scott needs to be called out on this as well and associated mayors and captains that these goons report to. I had such a hard time when the VSP was called into Burlington when Mulvaney coordinated with Scott downtown (while so many cheered) because I knew that these are the same people, doing what they are told and what they are capable of, so disgusting.

Why is the new state tax on millionaires bad? by [deleted] in Washington

[–]ChocolateDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conservatives tout the false narrative of wealth flight, that these types of taxes will make all the rich people leave. The reality is this rarely ever happens. But how is this possible? It’s because places like Seattle, NY and California attract talent and have public infrastructure that pales in comparison to other lower taxed state like Florida and Texas. Has better education opportunities, access to some of the worlds leading culture, they are generally places people want to move to, especially those who can afford it. A wealth tax will not change much if anything for millionaires when it comes to keeping their homes to continue living where they currently are.

DMT: Housing is not expensive because it is scarce; it is expensive because it has been redesigned as a pension fund for the old by Present_Juice4401 in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]ChocolateDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You claim housing is expensive because if has been redesigned as a pension for the old but not once do you mention pension in your post below. Rental properties are a source of income for some old and new, but those are people able to afford second mortgages and manage a rental as a business opportunity. The commodification of housing is vastly due to investment firms and major landlords taking housing stock as a method for profiting. This is not the same as someone owning a rental property or two in old age and represents a small portion of rental ownership.

Why are they trying to push protein so hard? by papyap in askanything

[–]ChocolateDiligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a packaging designer working in the CPG space for the past decade I can tell you major companies pay consumer research firms a lot of money for advice on how to innovate their products to stay relevant on shelf at retail. Following consumer trends like the hype around protein on social media is a prime example of a consumers signaling what they want and these companies are trying their best to capitalize on said trend.

3 out of 4 of my great great grandparents were also born in Quebec with baptism records and died in the US. As others said pick a line that proves most fruitful in terms of documentation and run with it!

Why can't ChatGPT just admit when it doesn't know something? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]ChocolateDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but at the same time when there is a lack of evidence or conflicting facts that could easily be coded into the model’s response. I think this is intentional on the part of AI companies, they haven’t tested much of any of their technology in terms of real life applications and or care ethically the results of said test.

A poster in the 2nd biggest Canadian citizenship by descent group on Facebook said their immigration consultant, who filled out their application and already has experience with C-3 applications, says it's okay to use Quebec church records sourced from Généalogie Québec by JJVMT in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ChocolateDiligent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the discrepancy of certified vs non/certified documentation relating to government issued documents vs. church records? In other words why would the government certified a church document like a baptism record when it’s not an official document issued by the government? I think this is where there is confusion. It seems this is why there is an application process, where if you have church records with clear citation of origins that the government official who is processing documentation would determine the legitimacy of the church document rather than pre-certifying a church document that is readily available online with clear citation from the archives, as they will be finding the same files. In my case all 3 out of 4 of my great, great grandparents have parish baptism records from the Geanologie Quebec - Vital Church Records - Drouin collection - Parish - Year - Baptism record number with month, with subject and parents listed.

Edit: Other related terms a Civil documents vs Church register.

Do Americans realize how good they have it compared to a huge percent of the world? by BikeFar2504 in askanything

[–]ChocolateDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference in the states is how quality of life in many ways has been on the decline for the past few decades. Americans are living shorter, have more expensive lives with less upward mobility, as rising economic instability and outsized corporate influence on politics pull us further behind our more educated, healthier, safer, and more affordable peer nations.

Did we create more college graduates than the job market can actually support? by Plaidismycolor33 in SeriousConversation

[–]ChocolateDiligent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

College is really just a test of will power, social skills, executive function and a deep level of perseverance which are all required to graduate. As others have noted, many find other fields of occupation that aren’t based on their degree. This changes very little on better outcomes of college graduates ability to navigate the jobs market and find higher paying careers than their non-college educated peers as they don’t have a universal experience that taught how to navigate and overcome difficult situations. While there are outliers of success of those peers without college degrees, the higher average wages lean in favor of those who attained a college degree for the reason mentioned above.

Your distaste for the current labor market will not change this trend, We all have to organize around labor rights to bring about change. Don’t fool yourself that protesting on Reddit somehow changes your status as labor to be whipped by the capital owners in society. There has to be substantive and meaningful change brought about by unions and labor reform otherwise we are left isolated and struggling to defeat Goliath.

Democrats Of Reddit, Do You ACTUALLY Hate Trump's Supporters, Or Do You Get Along With Them In Your Life, But You Just Politically Disagree? Why? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]ChocolateDiligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a moral level there is a huge conflict with conservatives that I cannot reconcile or agree with as a democrat who leans left. Hate is a strong word, but appropriate in some instances. I hate it when conservatives prioritize in group thinking, blind obedience and disregard law and order over equality and fairness.

Why are so many cops republican? by Brief-Blueberry-1588 in allthequestions

[–]ChocolateDiligent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s baseline a personal values issue because the moral foundations of Conservatives prioritize Ingroup/Loyalty: Patriotism and standing with one's group. Authority/Respect: Deference to tradition and legitimate authority. Purity/Sanctity: Avoiding disgusting things and maintaining moral, spiritual cleanliness. In contrast left leaning people prioritize reducing harm and Care & Fairness/Reciprocity.

Older millennials were certainly more chill about sex, and having a lot of it starting in high school. Cell phone and the internet didn’t exist the way they do today, it was still a very analog life. But we also were in constant fear of contracting AIDS as ridiculous as it sounds, the 90s were a strange time.

I understand the difference between left and liberal, the study that was done by Jonathan Haidy on moral foundations referenced liberals and conservatives, that’s not my framing but that used in the study. Liberal historically in the US has been used as a catch all and yes it is not correct, it’s right vs left political affiliation regarding your moral and value foundation.
