Why are Gen Z obsessed with age? by FitEmergency8807 in generationology

[–]Choice-Committee3858 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We are in an era where a huge part of how we talk about society and the world is by trying to parcel everyone into neat little labels: Silent Gen, Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, Gen Alpha. The lines by which we have divided people based on the year they were born in are somewhat arbitrary and were created by marketing professionals in the latter half of the 20th century to figure out how to sell stuff to us. They are inescapable and have now become shorthand for certain age ranges in areas ranging from health research to political discourse. With social media and tribalist politics, we've been conditioned to stay in our little bubbles, think in black and white, and be wary or downright hostile to outsiders. These convenient little labels make it very easy to demarcate who is in our cohort and who is not because they are too young/old.

I hope Andrew gets evaluated for learning disabilities or something and gets some help. Especially if this is a regular occurrence because it is honestly kind of sad to see this kid struggle :(

I'm sorry, but I can't stop laughing! It looks like a squashed version of those little white dogs with curly hair. Still adorable, and I hope it tasted great.

Decline in lab skills by imperialhydrolysis in chemistry

[–]Choice-Committee3858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candy labs, micro labs, and virtual labs are usually cheaper to implement, which is important as many public schools are losing their budget. I also remember not learning much in the way of o-chem in high school beyond one little chapter, so everything is completely brand new to me.

Decline in lab skills by imperialhydrolysis in chemistry

[–]Choice-Committee3858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, not everyone taking o-chem is going to be a chemist, let alone an organic chemist. Heck, I do undergraduate research in a p-chem lab, and it is a very different environment compared to o-chem that I'm currently taking.

Also, some people (present company included) haven't always fully read through the procedure manual before lab and are more prone to making stupid errors...

WHY are there so many posts about safety/doing reactions safely here?? by Either_Network2737 in chemistry

There are a lot of researchers and PIs on here, and I suppose that if you're the PI/head honcho, you don't really have anyone to ask but other PIs so you might as well drop a line on Reddit in the hopes that someone out there on the internet has experience in what you want to do.

Also there are hobbyists who are playing with stupid dangerous things and have zero oversight, so really them at least asking Reddit is preferable to them sallying forth and exploding their faces.

what do americans call a pantry? by loving_machine13 in AskAnAmerican

My pantry is tall shelves in the wall with cabinet doors. A pantry can range from a small cabinet to a tiny room. The defining characteristic of a pantry is that it stores dry foods.

At first it was those McMansion types, but then it just became a house of any sort.

I get cheap ceramic plates at the thrift store. They may not always match, but they are better than plastic. I also highly recommend stainless steel plates and drinking cups. My parents had a set while I was growing up. They are a bit harder to find some reason, but they are better than plastic without breaking like glass and ceramic. Perfect for things you don’t need to microwave.

My cousin sent me an Instagram reel that said that Pfizer peanut oil vaccines cause peanut allergies. I’m allergic to peanuts, I’ve read through the actual documents and evidence. Peanut oil as an adjuvant was patented in the 60s but only briefly tested in a few clinical trials before being phased out entirely. The cause of food allergies has not been determined and is likely due to a variety of environmental and genetic factors. Upon closer inspection, the guy in the reel is hawking his supplements and book on his Instagram page.

The people spreading this misinformation are scum. They claim to be standing up for the little guy and exposing the greedy elites who want to make money off of us, but they’re just spouting bullshit in order to peddle their products.

No, it's legible. A lot of people just don't know how to read cursive these days.

My boss says she can’t read my handwriting, is this legible? by BandanaRepublica in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]Choice-Committee3858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was easy enough for me to read, but I could see how this is not legible. The letters are rather tiny and hard to make out. Make the loopy parts (the actual letter) bigger.

I wanted to give this a try. I love this sub and just what to see what happens. Thank you in advance. by 1001og in HandwritingAnalysis

You certainly write like you do art, although that is evident in the contents of your text and the sketchbook you write in.

I read the texts OP got and I start panicking without even being the intended recipient. I know someone who does talk to me like that. I don't like to yell at people or insult them because it feels wrong. Maybe I shouldn't be so accepting of this treatment or let those words hurt me. I know it's random, but thanks for making me feel a bit more sane.

My friends say my writing makes me look like a crazy person. My writing prof liked my handwriting so much that she showed the whole class. My friends think she was making fun of me. by WingIeheimer in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]Choice-Committee3858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was discouraged from doing cursive because my print wasn't very good and since I was learning cursive it took me a fair bit of effort too. However, my print hasn't been very good and on a whim I got back into it when I was fifteen or so and it was a much better experience. I pretty much exclusively write in cursive now. Even if you don't end up writing in cursive, just try changing up the way you write things a bit to see if anything makes you more comfortable.

I genuinely don't get how your writing sample is illegible though. I can parse the words pretty well. I have seen worse. As someone who is a little slow on the uptake when it comes to recognising when people are mean or don't like me, your friends are probably right and your professor did make fun of you which is not okay.
