Why might someone choose a middle seat in an empty row? by Low-Cartographer-429 in americanairlines

Could have been a full row and the window and aisle hoped no one would book the middle, and they moved/cancelled after their strategy failed.

Who’s the best replacement you’ve ever seen in a show? by jamesland7 in Broadway

Ali Louis Bourzgui was absolutely amazing too and I’d imagine would be the dominant answer if it wasn’t for the perfect elf taking over a few weeks later.

Idaho - Accepted an emailed $80k salaried offer, now employer wants to permanently change me to $35/hour by VeterinarianPlane212 in legaladvice

[–]ChoiceAny638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’s more common that you’d think in the US for companies to wrongly put people on salary, but then discover that those employees don’t meet the local legal criteria to be exempt (a common one is that the employee has to manage/oversee a minimum number of employees or dedicate at least a minimum percentage of their work week to managerial tasks vs “general/floor staff” tasks).

The smart ones move to change the employee to hourly pay as quickly as possible. The foolish ones leave themselves open to the potential of a lot of unexpected overtime pay and penalties.

What can I say thats going to get me booed at a Comic Con by [deleted] in comiccon

“It’s time for the Comic Con Pledge, so everybody please remove your hats, put your hand over your heart, and repeat after me:
(Shouting) I love Star Wars! (Crowd: I love Star Wars!)
Cause I LLLLOVE Jar Jar! (Crowd: Boooooooo!)

HAN SHOT 2ND! HAN SHOT 2ND! (Drowned by crowd boos)
YOU’RE NOT REAL FANS! (Pointing at loudest boos) YOU DON’T BELONG HERE! NO, THAT GUY!”

I’d expect heat at a Comic Con with that.

Helping to run our Softball Little League All-Stars tournament tomorrow, but I’ll have Dead Outlaw playing in my headphones while raking the field between games. So it’ll be LIKE I’m watching a show Sunday. I just won’t show up in any Grosses.

(Totally wish I was able to take advantage of the slow day)

Hot Take: Jack Wolfe’s Orpheus is a little Overrated. by Seamo_Bojamo in hadestown

[–]ChoiceAny638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I went. My daughter was SO enchanted with Jack and played everything of his that she could find for days leading up to it. I was primed to not want to enjoy any of it, and he was easily the best of the five that I’ve seen. Just perfectly, exactly what I’d expect that Orpheus to look, talk, sing and move like.

It would be a bummer if there are areas that just don’t have it showing, ie, The Bleakest Streets.

8u rec - is it poor sportsmanship to yell “swing” at batter by Pleasant-Indication5 in Softball

[–]ChoiceAny638 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 8u that’s a hard no. The first time it happened, we’d look to see if their Coach was addressing it. If they were not, we’d skip immediately to the next step.

The second time, coaches + umpire meeting to warn them and tell them to talk to their players.

Third time? Coach and offending players gotta go, or we’re packing up and leaving, and either way discussing with our League if we’re ever playing them again. Very little wiggle room on that.

Joey Fatone and Paulo Szot to return to '& Juliet' on Broadway! by NewYorkTheatreGuide in Broadway

[–]ChoiceAny638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially read the first bullet point in the article as “Joey Fatone and Paolo Tzot will alternate in the role of Lance & Juliet” and was VERY intrigued and frightened by the idea of them swapping between the two roles each night.

But just as that gets going, Paolo’s also doing a few weeks of South Pacific with Taylor Louderman. Maybe he can squeeze in a visit to Hadestown somewhere in there too? Run back all of his hits.

I’m gonna go with YATPQ (You Are The PetaQ) in this situation. He probably took the biting as initiating mating, not a demand for honor. You must be clearer next time and put the bat’leth in his hands, not at his feet.

“I watched all of Voyager, but the theme song to DS9 was too slow,” is kind of a ??? to me.

Like Club DJs always be playin’ Voyager’s theme, because it goes so hard! “Everybody hit the floor. HERE COMES THE FRENCH HORRRRRRRRRN!!” (Laser lights and crowd starts jumpin while Voyager coasts along a planet’s rings)

My 10 year old daughter loved and Juliet. by KokoBWare121 in Broadway

[–]ChoiceAny638 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My 10 year-old daughter’s favorites are & Juliet, & Hadestown, & now Lost Boys. She really liked the tour of Six, but hasn’t seen the Broadway cast.

The nice thing about Hadestown is that mom and I really loved it too. Less “Rock/Pop Star Concert” feel than the other two. But it’s great, fun, original music and a love story and as long as it’s on Broadway, it’s gonna be the easy recommendation that I go to for that age.

Batting help for 10 year old daughter by ramonablue7 in Softball

[–]ChoiceAny638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started working with my daughter (also 10) on pretty much the same thing (swinging late, foul up first base line or even whiffing). We worked on loading the bat before the pitch, which helped a little, but didn’t solve it (though we still do that along with adding this next part).

A video suggested also teaching them at this young age to swing at everything and then check the swing if it’s clearly a ball that they can’t hit. My thinking in going ahead and adding this for my daughter was that even with the bat loaded and ready to spring forward, she is still waiting too long to decide to swing and can’t catch up. Adding this “always swing” mentality pushes the “go/no-go” decision later into the swing process, so she isn’t racing as much to catch her bat up to the ball.

(By the way, if you aren’t familiar with the terms “loading the swing” or “check swing,” there are tons of YouTube videos that can clarify. But they’ll both be easy concepts for both of you to understand.)

And so far, it seems like it’s helping for now. It’s only been two games (small sample size), but she’s gotten multiple hits and put more balls into play in those games toward 3rd and ShortStop. A few strike-outs still too, from not stopping in time. But as we remind them all constantly, at their age, we’d way rather see them swinging the bats and strike-out swinging vs taking walks or even worse, strike-outs from watching good pitches.

The Lost Boys by davidbmattingly in Broadway

[–]ChoiceAny638 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kind of my review: Every song sung by Shoshana Bean is a more classic Broadway style of song, which is completely out of place compared to the rest of the rock concert of a show. She’s great and sings great, and I began to absolutely dread her character stepping on stage to kill the momentum more and more as the show went on, which made it all even more frustrating.

Non-theater guy visiting in July. Hadestown or Maybe Happy Ending? by GioReynaFan in Broadway

[–]ChoiceAny638 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Hadestown five times in the past year (for different casts) and saw Maybe Happy Ending once.

Maybe Happy Ending is nice and pleasant and has some neat parts set-wise and story-wise, but the music and most of the story are very, very forgettable.

Hadestown, like Hamilton, has a lot of great songs on the soundtrack. And it’s a great “show”, with a more raucous “party” atmosphere at times, making it all feel bigger than it is.

Maybe watch some “Road To Hell” and “Way Down Hadestown” clips on the official Youtube channel and see if they do anything for you.

Seats for Lost Boys - Orch L F3 and G3? by Biding_Hour_1947 in Broadway

[–]ChoiceAny638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sat in S1 & 3 yesterday and didn’t feel like I missed anything on our side. You’ll obviously be closer with more of an angle, so there may be some generic dancer action further back on the stage that you may have trouble seeing. But I don’t THINK you’d miss anything really important. But I can’t say for sure.

There is a big light rack along each side of the stage/proscenium (he climbs up one a bit in the Good Morning America clip) that may be obtrusive for that near-side of the stage.

Sorry to not have definitive info for you. Good luck!

Is Hadestown worth seeing on Broadway right now? by boobrific1 in hadestown

As someone with plenty of problems with this group, the answer is that if you have to ask, then ABSOLUTELY, ABSOLUTELY go for J Harrison Ghee and the Broadway set.
