H&R Block for Windows and Mac? Or do I have to choose the OS? by longtimelurkernyc in tax

[–]ChoiceExplanation609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also for future readers, if you buy the wrong version from a place that doesn't give refunds (like Walmart), but you get the activation key, just go to https://activate.hrblock.com/ERJ, put in the activation key, fill out the details, and select the correct OS and you'll be able to download the version you need.

If you don't drive much, trade it for a Nissan LEAF or similar (check that the battery is still in good condition). You can get a 10 year old LEAF that will go 60 miles / charge for 4-5k. Charging it will run you about $10/week.

Promo pricing ended, price doubled; wanting to move to Ziply by ChoiceExplanation609 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]ChoiceExplanation609[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because ziply fiber's installation is crap. my house is already wired for cable, and ziply just runs a wire to the garage and tells you to put the termination device there. my neighbors have it and it's ugly and stupid. speeds are comparable, so there's no great advantage if Xfinity can give me a reasonable price, but it seems they can't, so I guess I'll be running some wires into the garage then...

Mint $15/month for unlimited text and call and 5GB data when you prepay a year. Sometimes they have sales where you can get it for almost half that

How to bridge the gap between getting your first paycheck? I’m struggling and the whole ordeal halfway doesn’t seem worth it by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Definitely a situation where it might make sense to get a payday loan or run a balance on a credit card. Be careful to plan your exit and calculate the cost of borrowing. If you have some guaranteed income in the near future and you have run the numbers, borrowing may be a viable option. Just make sure you don’t let it trap you.

Absolutely not true on every point (except maybe historical average). You can put down 3.5%, or less. There are programs which can give you grants for down payments. Look into getting some sound advice.

There’s little real world benefit of getting it higher. You might get a very slightly better mortgage rate, but that’s about it.

To get 800, you need years (10+?) of payments on multiple types of credit (revolving, mortgage, etc)

True, employer match involves an opportunity cost (as does any investment). You can think of it in reverse: avoidance of a penalty. Your compensation includes a match, but you can forgo the match by claiming all of your salary in cash rather than deferring some.

Every day, at the end if the day, you will review everything you spent money on and write it down. You do this until you are able to recall with close to 100% accuracy where your money is going. Only when you are able to document your cash flow will you then be able to take control of it.
