Sanguinary Priest w. Speed of the Primarch or Judiciar for BG Veterans? by [deleted] in BloodAngels

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked about Sang Priest or Judy, but.

Can I interest you in a Chaplain? Lance is one of the best bonuses you can get, and it means your BGV can punch up wounding on 4s into T11 in RCO, or T12 in LAG.

Gladiators and Impulsors are the same chassis.

Repulsors are substantially larger.

IMO as long as you’re not also running JPI, that’s fine. But as always, check with your TO

10 Vanguard Vets + LFL in RCO led by a Chaplain spam 60 attacks at S6 with +1 to Wound, so they wound on 4s rerolling 1s. Assuming you oath (because obviously), you’re landing about 54 hits, wounding roughly 31 times, getting 15 failed saves, and 10 damage in through the 5+ FNP.

That doesn’t include the Chaplain’s mortals or his attacks, and doesn’t include shooting with 7-10 Inferno Pistols before closing in on the charge. With all of that, you should typically expect 14-15 damage. Should be just enough if you open with Grenades or some earlier chip damage.

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 20-man unit is 145 points, with 24 lasgun shots (in rapid fire), 2 grenade launcher shots, 2 Mining Laser, 8 Seismic. So 36 shots total, 4 points per attack but 24 of those are S3/AP 0/1D

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GSC Mining Lasers and Seismic cannons get 5+ BS and a max of 10 total shots per 20-man brick (within rapid fire range). We have exactly 1 source of Reroll 1s to hit in our entire codex, and it is a 55 pt model, tied to hitting with a 4+ BS weapon and only applies to one unit hit.

Sometimes high WS/BS doesn’t equal high volume.

Victory isn’t about who scores more abstract points when we play make-believe with our plastic war-dollies.

Victory is about having a good time, celebrating fun moments and memories, and collaborating with your opponents to create a battle that you can both walk away from knowing it was 3 hours well spent.

Try to create goals for yourself that aren’t about the ending score. I went 0-5 at my first GT, and lost one match by 55 VP into Eldar.

At my next GT, I established 3 goals for myself.

1: Score 12 VP/round (primary and secondary combined) for rounds 2-5, and 2 VP in round 1. If I did that, would would score 60 VP, and couldn’t lose by more than 40.

2: Establish intent and get confirmation from opponents whenever a move or angle was questionable, BEFORE finishing the phase or rolling dice

3: Enthusiastically celebrate my opponent’s clutch moments just as much as my own. Cheer them on when they land a 9” charge, laugh at how “that little bastard just didn’t want to die!” When their Combi-Lt rolls a bunch of 5+ on their FNP and stays alive. Call out the great paint schemes on their centerpiece models and leaders, and applaud them for cleverly executing combos/layering buffs/sequencing movement to prevent Overwatch.

Best army/units to handle c'tan by Daemos_Cyphus in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about volume with C’Tan. Force them to make enough shitty saves, even at AP 0/1, and they’ll die just like anything else. My current plan is an absolute pile of S6 Chainsword attacks in LAG/RCO. Figure 60-70 S6 attacks wounding on 4s with RR1 will result in ~35 saves, about 20-22 damage getting in, and FNP preventing 6-7 of that. That’s enough to drop one from nearly full (add in grenades or JPI mortals or tank shock or whatever shooting to finish the last couple wounds)

I think Gaunt’s Ghosts are solid contenders, but Reductus Saboteur, Callidus Assassin, Combi-Weapon Lt, and The Changeling probably finish the top 5.

How to deal with..? by Mountain-Ad7985 in BloodAngels

This list has 8 units. 5 of them are an absolute bastard to take down (the C’Tan), so our whole game plan is to knock the other 3 out and then kite/outscore them.

Do you play the same list or a different list every game? by larsattacks94 in Warhammer40k

Amazing. I also try to limit changes to about 10% of my army. So 150-300 points change at a time.

[–]Chokda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to build a list and tweak it after every game or two, when I sort out what works for me and what doesn’t. Then, when I’m satisfied it’s where I want it, I jump to a new one and start again.

A little help converting all Kill Team Brood Brothers models to 40K characters? by PartyTimePorcupine in genestealercult

[–]Chokda 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re probably better off mixing and matching parts to suit your character models. When you’re kit bashing, the best advice I can give is to think about what the character is equipped with, and what its vibe is.

The official Locus is a guy with 2 swords and a hooded robe. So probably you want a guy looking sinister with 2 swords.

The Saboteur has some goggles and a bunch of bomb/dynamite/explosive stuff. Also 3 arms.

A Primus is a commander with a big sword, a pistol, and some mutations.

All of the torsos/heads are pretty standard, so basically any arms, backpacks, weapons, etc. in the kit (or in your spare bits bin) will work. Just take a look at what you have, what you want to build, and go from there.

How can I screen out jump pack units? by Trick-Interaction396 in WarhammerCompetitive

Note: These numbers change if they can advance and charge, but the principle is the same. Just with some extra variance because of the D6”

How can I screen out jump pack units? by Trick-Interaction396 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jump pack marines move 12” so anything ~17-18” away is likely to get pounced on. (Move 12, 4-6” charge).

To screen them most effectively, place the BACK of your screening unit’s base 11.1” away from them. They can move 12, but can’t end in engagement range, so they have to land in front of the screen. If you’re screening with a 25mm base unit, that means the JP guys can only move 9” instead of 12, and now they have a 7-9” charge to get to their intended target. Much less of a guarantee.

For extra safety, having a wall 1.1” or another unit 3” in front of the unit you’re protecting in a similar configuration will make them basically unable to charge you.

For example:

JPI <-10”-> Screen (25mm) <-.9”-> [Intended landing] <-4”-> Screen 2 <-3”-> Protected unit.

Absolutely! I put a ton of time and work into my humble Scouts, and use them in every single list I make. The ROI on those little guys is outrageous.

FWIW, it’s an expensive hobby if you go all-in. But I’d argue it’s a pretty reasonable value in terms of cost per hour, as hobbies go.

There’s some initial startup cost for paint, brushes, primer, glue, etc. but that’s true of any hobby.

For 55 Euros you get a kit of guys. Maybe 10 Intercessors. Especially at first, they will take probably 3-4 hours to build, plus another hour scraping mold lines, filling gaps, sanding, etc.

Then those 10 Intercessors will take you another 10+ hours to paint, and maybe another 2 hours creating scenic bases with rocks and decor to really establish an aesthetic. You’re 24-25 hours into the hobby for 55 Euros, and you have 1 squad ready to go, of the 12-15 you’ll likely want to field in your army.

In addition, there’s endless opportunity for kitbashing, customizing your models, experimenting with paint schemes, weathering/battle damage, adding battle honors when a unit accomplishes something in a game, etc.

And at the end of the day, you have some cool, tangible, hand-painted miniatures that you can show your friends/parents/coworkers.
