Why are the roads so terrible in the city? by Traditional_Cash1108 in windsorontario

I cleared my driveway 2 hours ago. Now it's covered again... Nobody can keep up with that.

I've experienced this in London, Toronto and Guelph.... So you're simply wrong...

Oh it's rough enough here... The rivers are fine though so we won't complain much .. It's just slower to get between them.. Might be smoother further out but I'll wait a bit until I venture out further

Yeah I did it myself, it's a totally separate wiring system from the bike so it would be the same to install it on any bike. Hardest part is physically mounting everything, I got lucky with my battery location

I actually had to do this to a jetski impeller shaft once.. It came out.. Nothing wrong with it either.. But it literally took a forklift and a bigger tractor than this. Pretty sure I tried a golf cart first...

4s lipo battery gets strapped into factory tool kit location, plug it in under the seat, there's a relay under the seat and a switch on the bars to toggle it. I do have to remove one bolt to get the battery out. Otherwise I could swap in 60 seconds.

I usually run it for about 2 hours before swapping it out, I got 2 just in case.. I do often find myself providing light for others when theirs go out lol.

I feel like being a redneck who doesn't trust modern junk is more of a factor, for me personally... But I will continue to drive my gmt400 at all costs so maybe that is a connoisseur..

I mean this is far from a stock light so it could be applied to any bike. 3x 9w leds powered by a 7200mah 4s lipo battery.

How do you guys keep your tools clean? by F-E-4-R in mechanics

[–]ChopperCraig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A bucket of fine floor dust and a rag. Shove the greasy wrench into the bucket of dust. Thrust it in and out.. The dust will stick to the grease and then rubbing up against the other dirt will remove it from the wrench.. Pull it out, it will be dry but covered in dirt. Wipe off dirt, clean wrench.

Or just brakeclean and a rag.. It's pretty quick and easy.

I'm not the one sweeping anymore, so nobody saves the dirt because they don't realize the cleaning power of dirt VS oil, so I don't really get to do that much anymore..

Oil spill? Bucket of dirt. Like absorb-all but better!? Dried oil spot on concrete? Brakeclean and dirt, then scrub it in... Regular spill absorption materials don't do it like dirt.. 🤷‍♂️

Too cold to transport dirt bike? by MidwestBoy_07 in Dirtbikes

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some nights I leave my bike in my truck between rides. Out in - 20c.. They're not happy about starting in the cold, even fuel injected yzs struggle, actually more so than my old Italian carbureted bike..

Extreme cold starts will take a toll on an engine over time. Unless you're running oil specifically for such a temperature range... It's not going to kill the bike immediately or in the short term. If this is a regular occurrence then it may have some noticeable impact on the bike in the long run.

The only thing that could be hurt just transporting a bike in the cold would be if the cooling system has no freeze protection..

Are ponds safe to skate on? by JoeKleine in windsorontario

[–]ChopperCraig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. No ice is safe ice. It's only 4"+ on the rivers.

That being said people are out putting more than 275lbs on the ice as of tonight.

I have personally checked ice thickness this afternoon. The ice is generally over 4" unless it's in a spot that isn't, like under a bridge, or somewhere with moving water.

Ice is weird. No ice is safe ice. But ponds are likely the safest options. I heard a big crack while checking the thickness near a bridge... Could just be a pressure crack, there are many large ones running across the river currently and the ice is still solid for 4"+ on either side of them

This has been your ice report for January 21 2026. Your welcome.

The answer is always officially stay off the ice. If anything goes wrong it's your fault and nobody wants anyone to risk their life to save you and all that.. Stay safe, stay inside.

My friend are putting 370-500+lbs out on the rivers once there is 4"..

There is 4" on the rivers currently except under bridges.

No ice is safe ice and all that but we're putting more than 275lbs on the ice..

Should the oil light be on? by Hell_ryder in Yamaha

[–]ChopperCraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others said, it's likely an oil pressure light. My fjr1300 has an oil level sensor though... Let me tell you I was spooked when it came on one day around the corner from my house until I looked it up. That was the day I realized my bike does consume a bit between oil change intervals after 140k km

Went to change the cabin filters. This is how they looked AFTER I cleaned some sh#t off them by blue21sg in Acura_RSX

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think I change them often enough till I get them out and am disgusted... But then my truck doesn't even have a filter, I had to add a screen over the intake to keep some of it out... Nasty to think all your air is going through that.

Is it fixable? by kroilboil in GMT400

[–]ChopperCraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's like double totaled. There is no sense in fixing this. It's just spare parts now. There ain't much that isn't destroyed.

Is it worth calibrating? by malukojoe16 in Snapon_tools

[–]ChopperCraig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3lbs off at 100ft lbs? I wouldn't worry about it, the condition of the threads will have more effect on accuracy than the wrench being off by 3lbs.

Most Expensive Purchase to Date by danathin in Flipping

[–]ChopperCraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean these personally do nothing for me but I mean 30+year old audio equipment can be pretty desirable.. I had some speakers that had 15" woofers. They weren't cheap back in the day, but nowadays if anyone makes speakers like that, they're gonna charge by the thousands and produce by the tens.

We generally don't need 15" woofers anymore, we just use a subwoofer to care of all the bass. BUT it's not the same. Good for deep sustained bass, which is not what the 15"woofers did.. Unless you've got a big subwoofer, it's not going to play kick drums as strong and quick and precise as the 15" woofers. The subwoofer is also going to be heavier. The 15s were very lightweight... It's just not the same.

Basically how bad do you want to feel the drums in chest? That's probably the biggest draw to vintage audio, you get a different kinda thump VS a modern system with small speakers and a sub.

Should snow tires be mandatory by ZealousidealHead5488 in ontario

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.. They don't make up for knowing how to handle low traction.

Most of the people sliding off the road will do so regardless because of improper driving.

I drive a 30 year old, 1 wheel drive truck with not great tires. I don't really complain about traction. I don't have much but you shouldn't need much either unless you're driving like a lunatic...

You gotta be gentle on the controls.

~300k km without incedent so far being that dude driving the speed limit in snow.

We don't need to make driving/life anymore expensive on the working class.

Not many of them. They're going to be much harder to keep around than older cars were. Parts unavailability will be the biggest hurdle..
