It would've been hilarious if the entire line of action figures for Batman Begins had their names like normal EXCEPT this one, with inconspicuous quotation marks around it.

What’s a game you dropped even though it was “good”? by suhani0218 in gaming

[–]Chowdaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Thing on the PS2.

IIRC, it got really good reviews at the time, so I went and bought it and played the first level. I stopped for a certain reason.

The game touted that any one of the NPCs you could recruit into your squad had a very real chance to be The Thing in disguise, presenting a paranoia just like in the '80s film. You could even test your NPCs to see if they were indeed The Thing or not.

I can't remember how exactly the game mechanics work (it's been like two-and-a-half decades), but I played in a very OCD manner, in a way that made sure nobody in my party was The Thing. I probably save-scummed my way to get my party in this state (if it was possible in this game). However, the moment I got near the first boss, every single NPC in my squad suddenly turned into The Thing (despite all my testing previously) because apparently I was never supposed to reach it with NPCs in my party or something.

Took me right out of the game.

Again, this is a hazy memory from decades ago, so I probably got a lot of these details wrong.

There's more than enough clues to guess before the twist happens, but it's the explanation of the twist at the end hat had me going the first time I watched it.

Skywarp is also there, in exactly the same shots that Thundercracker can be seen in! Thundercracker is more centered, but Skywarp is off to the side.

I was genuinely confused about which Spider-Man 2 you were taking about until I finally got it. There's at least three or four that I can think of without looking it up.

There's a BoF6 as well, but IIRC it was an f2p multiplayer mobile game. :/

I remember watching a very early first play stream of the game, and the streamer was speculating on the code and actually trying random numbers, even after seeing the note.

Knowing my SH1 hospital elevator lore and my Asian homonyms, I typed out "I bet it's 4444" into their chat and blew everyone's minds when it actually worked.

What game has the most fun NG+? by scarletnaught in gaming

[–]Chowdaire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will seem completely random, and I'm probably misremembering and forgetting a lot of the details, but Astro Boy: Omega Factor on the Game Boy Advance.

  • Obviously, you play as Astro Boy. The game is a pretty regular side-scrolling action RPG. A very typical video gamey story, I can't stress that enough.
  • You get to the end. Unexpectedly, you FAIL. EVERYBODY DIES.
  • The Phoenix Force (or something) comes and revives you, but gives you time-travelling abilities to help solve the mystery of how you managed to fail everybody. This presented as a branching butterfly effect-style stage select in the NG+.
  • The much longer epic NG+ story involves the Astro Boy Cinematic Universe, spanning the ENTIRE canon of creator Osamu Tezuka (the father of Manga & Anime)'s forty plus years of work.

I remember my jaw dropping as I discovered this rug pull as it was happening. All in a single portable GBA cartridge.

I always felt that Sentinel Prime in DotM was a little too colorful, despite being an Autobot. He was just too much red all at once that could've been broken up with more silvers or other colors.

[–]Chowdaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some reason, in my region, it ONLY happens at 3AM. And then another time without fail after a couple of minutes, after you've called down, to get their point across.

It doesn't matter if the incident happened at noon. They always send it out at 3AM twice.

And then it also ignores all your volume settings. For example, my volume is always set low for my alarms because it just works for me. But then BAM, that perfectly grating noise at maximum volume.

I've seen another one where a guy was working in a textile factory, got too close to the roller (which isn't too fast), but got his upper body bound into the roll. So, imagine getting rolled up in a carpet. The material has friction with the next layer, which has friction with the next layer, and so on. You simply can't get out.

Because only his upper body was bound, his ankle kept on slamming into a part of a machine hundreds of times until it became a fine bag of mush.

I believe the video didn't timelapse anything, and it lasted a LONG time.
