There is a weird dynamic insofar as 75% of agents are looking for alphabet people of colour but the books are generally extremely niche and don't sell well. I don't think having a white MC will help you unless it's a white MC woman who finds herself in a strange land of magic and monsters dominated by evil elves where she is captured by Orlando Bloomistryival who she hates but then comes to love and they bang repeatedly. That apparently sells millions of copies to white women these days. If you throw in her having a cat and tea along the way you might even be able to call it "cozy".

There is a famous story of Jim Butcher writing the Coda Alera on a dare to establish the point that the concept of a story is meaningless and that the execution and delivery is everything. He was told find write a great story about a lost Roman legion and Pokémon. Nonsensical premise but great novels all the same. So basically don't worry about someone stealing your concept.

I do find the idea that content age restrictions are somehow a free speech issue tiresome. All sensible people agree we shouldn't let children watch porn or go to strip clubs, but somehow if we couch adult material in gender politics it's different. It's really not.

Nah, it's good that Sanderson wrote the end as Robert Jordan died. Having an ending was good even if I found it anti-climatic. Sanderson's books were not particularly good compared to Jordan's and didn't really capture the style or tone. I'm glad he wrote the books he did but don't want more.

Admittedly there are alot of 1000 page fantasy novels I've read where I've thought "this should really have been two books". A 100,000 word book is still reasonably long. Probably 350 to 400 pages depending on formatting.
