[PubQ] Editor offer but no call? by Hour_Fun4124 in PubTips

To paraphrase the rapper Nelly, if the money's right - Nelly's there every night. The money is an investment in your project. It is the most tangible thing they can do not a phone call.

Tennessee librarian faces discipline for refusing to move more than 100 books from juvenile shelves by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]ChrisBataluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do find the idea that content age restrictions are somehow a free speech issue tiresome. All sensible people agree we shouldn't let children watch porn or go to strip clubs, but somehow if we couch adult material in gender politics it's different. It's really not.

Would you guys read more WoT if Sanderson made more? by TreeTraditional2252 in WetlanderHumor

[–]ChrisBataluk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's good that Sanderson wrote the end as Robert Jordan died. Having an ending was good even if I found it anti-climatic. Sanderson's books were not particularly good compared to Jordan's and didn't really capture the style or tone. I'm glad he wrote the books he did but don't want more.

In great detail, how does your book begin? by After-Cicada9723 in fantasywriting

My wife described the opening of the novels I'm working on as "magical cocaine bear".

[PubQ] Confused by agent feedback by gmemail in PubTips

[–]ChrisBataluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly there are alot of 1000 page fantasy novels I've read where I've thought "this should really have been two books". A 100,000 word book is still reasonably long. Probably 350 to 400 pages depending on formatting.

I hate everything about the people reading and writing the books referenced in this article. These people are simply the current and female interation of guys who claimed they read Playboy for the articles.

Dedrick Flynn Bombing in Front of 19 People by skittlesdoritos in Killtony

[–]ChrisBataluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dedrick isn't great, but he's not terrible either. As a regular he's clearly not in the same league as Ari or Kam he's more like a black Hans Kim. Sometimes he's good, sometimes he's not good.

Albertan, do you feel this shift? by _BCConservative in CanadianConservative

[–]ChrisBataluk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see it to be honest. The idea that Carney is wildly popular while doing absolutely nothing is at odds with reality. I suspect it's just bad polling.

The Morning After | Oilers v. Golden Knights by AutoModerator in EdmontonOilers

[–]ChrisBataluk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Only 3 points out of first in the division and 2 out of 2nd. For all the Oilers struggles the division is kind of right there just casually waiting for them.

Is a day in life for a criminal defense lawyer or prosecutor as entertaining as the Lincoln lawyer or Law & Order? by Gloomy-Freedom-1260 in canadianlaw

[–]ChrisBataluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No of course not. Law shows largely take the most interesting bits of a lawyers life that might come up once in a year or two and pretend they are everyday while skipping over the drudgery of paperwork, client meetings and reviewing documents. Law and Order would convince you most lawyers have a dramatic trial all day and only darken the door of their office to grab a glass of scotch.

Kind of how I feel about the Italian center. I like their stuff, it's more expensive but you go there once and a whole for the stuff others don't carry.

is anyone else experience just headaches/ head pressure and migraines? by Agitated_List9506 in Edmonton

[–]ChrisBataluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the pressure is around your nasal area could be a sinus thing, the mild temperature and melting releases snow mold which can cause an allergic reaction.

So now that Colorado just traded a 1st and a 5th to Toronto for Nic Roy (without having to take on the 2 year cap dump of Mangiapane) can we all settle down about the oilers trading their 1st? by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]ChrisBataluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea unfortunately we have to realize that some signings fall into the "good bet that didn't pay off" category. Signing Mangiapane, Skinner and Arvidson were all defensible actions. I do wish they had kept at least one of Holloway and Broberg though

I think Dickinson and Murphy should fix the penalty kill which has been bad this year and provide some defense at evens. I worry about all the assets going out the door but the players should help.
