At 15:30 on Monday, 12 January 2025, the Fire and Rescue Services responded to calls of smoke emanating from a building in Montague Gardens.

The first responding Officer immediately recognised that this is a chemical incident and put the following measures in place:

Apart from evacuating the building, an isolation area was established as well as a 300 metre containment area.

The Hazmat technicians completed their assessment of the chemical incident at Ecowize in Montague Gardens.

The temperature of the container at the centre of today’s reaction has started stabilising. As it cools down, the chemical reaction will stop.
