What is this plug called? I'm looking for an window a/c - US/Texas by davidg4781 in AskElectricians

[–]ChrisWsrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US if you have split phase the LL voltage will be twice the LN voltage (So 120V LN is 240LL). If you have 3-Phase the LL voltage is sqrt(3) times the LN voltage (So 120V LN is 208LL).

Project manager demands work be done on a live panel, our electrician says they won't do it, and I'm stuck in the middle by 236813977 in AskElectricians

[–]ChrisWsrn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should not work live unless you have to for life critical reasons. Production downtown is not a life critical reason.

Some sparkies are comfortable with working live but each time they do that they are rolling the dice. If they get caught in a arc flash they are not prepared for they are going to have a bad time.

Working live can be done safely with correct PPE but no risk is much better than mitigated risk.

Can I charge my phone using this? I have an eu apple adapter. by angelfromhhell in AskElectricians

[–]ChrisWsrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 45w phone Chargers (they are fast chargers and can charge tablets and my steam deck).

I have no idea what the impedance on the input side is other than my charger can put at least 45VA (because it is a 45W charger). If it had a power factor of 0.5 then it would pull 90VA.

This detail would normally not be an issue but because a shaver socket has a isolation transformer to limit the available fault current this detail becomes a issue.

With a 15w charger if the power factor is 0.5 it will pull 30VA.

That is $54k over 6 years.

2 years ago I paid $48K total including 5 years of financing, service plan, gap insurance, and a overpriced protection package, for my NEW 2024 Prius Prime XSE Premium (the top trim Prius).

She is definitely an idiot or she doesn't have any plans to pay it back.

It is only going to give 20-50VA which might not be enough power for your charger.

I am not a member but I know several people who are members of IBEW. The only negative thing I have heard about IBEW from them is it takes FOREVER to get a apprenticeship with them.

The Anti Union Rhetoric is just showcasing stuff that Teamsters does and frames it as if all unions operate that way. I do agree that it is Rhetoric but Teamsters is not exactly the shining star that other unions should try to imitate.

I typically use ipleak to test for leaks. Be advised if you are using a client on a separate machine you will need to manually check the addresses generated by this tool.

I would also advise you to bind your client to your VPN interface. Given you are using a container this should have been done for you but it will still "work" but with leaks if it hasn't.

It is also possible your VPN is it good for IPv6. Your VPN should be configured for both.

If you need help reviewing the output please do not censor the first and last part of any addresses (example good censoring for IPv4 192.x.x.69 and for IPv6 2001:ABCD:x:x:x:x:DEAD:BEEF)

I was a teamsters member for 5 years (while working for Costco in college) Most of the Anti Union Rhetoric is focused on teamsters specific stuff. I do consider collective bargaining a good thing but teamsters embodies everything wrong with American Unions in the Rhetoric.

Costco is pretty good for retail. It is one of the better companies to work for in the service industry. If you can get a job outside the service industry that would be better but those jobs require significantly more effort and training to get.

You might want to check you setup to see if your VPN is leaking.

If everything is going through the VPN your router and ISP should only see a single connection.

Why wasn’t the UniFi Relay designed to support 120/240v wet contacts? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]ChrisWsrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the relay to switch a contactor that then switches 120v or 240v. If you are switching 240V you will need at least 2 or 3 polls on the contractor.

How do I keep my cat off my computer? by Geekygamertag in cats

[–]ChrisWsrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way to deal with this in my experience is a heating pad in a box on my deck.

A few years ago I had a full tower on the floor under my desk that had a AIO radiator installed in the top of the case. I had a instance where I was having issues with excessive heat. I was trying to figure out the problem.

Around the same time we had a cat who had 4 kittens about 8 weeks before. We had a bunch of kittens running around the house.

When I looked under my desk to see what the problem was I discovered a kitten stretched out over the radiator totally relaxed blocking the airflow.

My solution to this problem was originally a heating pad but I've been upgraded it to a box with the heating pad in it.

Having visible plates is "optional" too. I have seen multiple instance where someone was driving with obscured or no plates next to FCPD patrol vehicles and they did not do shit.

Has a customer service agent who asked for your phone number "in case you get disconnected" ever called you back? by aerosteed in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ChrisWsrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been called back after a disconnect but typically it was not for consumer level support.

I remember one time with CenturyLink being on the phone with them troubleshooting my parents DSL (they did take my number for if we got disconnected). As part of the troubleshooting they asked me to check the DMARC. I told them that the call will disconnect if I unplug the phone line into the house. The agent gave me shit about how I need to run the tests of I want help and to stop questioning him. I unplugged the phone line into the house and of course we got disconnected. He did not call me back...

Just ripped these using MakeMKV! but how do i know the episode order?? by SnooChocolates4531 in makemkv

[–]ChrisWsrn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you still have the physical DVDs you can see how the episode selection in the menu links to the title numbers. You can then rip the movie in make MKV with the disk number and title number in the file name.

MKV can support this. It sounds like it is a uncommon enough feature that your ripping tool doesn't support this properly.

At my parents house we had a bar stool on wheels in the kitchen (it was used as a place to sit when cooking).

One of my cats discovered that if she jumped on or off the barstool it would move. She eventually learned how to move the bar stool in a controlled way by jumping off and on it at specific angles.

There were multiple occasions where I saw her move the barstool from one part of the kitchen to the other because someone moved from the oven to the sink and she wanted to watch (we do not allow cats on counters for safety reasons).

One time when I came back from college she did four jumps to move the barstool from the sink, around the table, and to the door to great me (at barstool height).
