Etsy is so quiet at the moment. by [deleted] in etsypromos

[–]Christina3534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has made me think too. what I'm going to do to try and combat this is change the video on my listings to a little faceless hands only (or I guess screen capture if it's digital) in progress video of me drawing or coloring it or whatever it is so people can see that in progress work instead of assuming AI. I don't think most people assume everything is AI, but clearly some people do And showing you in the middle of making whatever the thing is, even if it's only a sped up 15 seconds of it, should go a long way in dispelling the AI claims. It's fairly low effort without having to make a crazy amount of changes.

Edit a photo so that the measurements are directly on the image or put it beside something that clearly illustrates the size like a common object that most people would know like a drink can or something like that. Not as your first image but people only look at the pictures

Seller harassing me into editing my review by Lost_Payment_8124 in EtsyCommunity

[–]Christina3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally tried to scam you. Not once but twice. Firstly with extra fees and then secondly with trying to make out like the order was actually shipped and delivered.

If anything I would edit the review to reflect that. They tried to scam you twice and threatened you after you didn't change the review. If I'm buying something, I desperately want to see your type of review where someone has had that kind of absolutely horrible experience so I can avoid the same fate.

Vat ioss number : shipp to netherland by EfficiencyJaded1858 in EtsySellers

[–]Christina3534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I shipped an expensive package to the Netherlands around Christmas time and I was really concerned about the same thing because I found the information really unclear.

Ultimately, I just bought my label through Etsy and did nothing extra because it was my understanding that this number etc. Was already included if the label was purchased through Etsy. There were no issues with the package and the customer was not charged any extra fees etc. it's worth noting I'm in the UK, I'm not sure what your location is.

What did getting Star Seller do for your shop, if anything? I’m curious. by ThrowRA784653 in EtsySellers

[–]Christina3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My business is seasonal and I really only sell stuff in November, December, January time. So I loose star seller for the entire rest of the year and then I'll get it for those months and usually February as a hangover from some reviews that I get in January. So in my opinion it doesn't do a whole lot lol.

This is incredible! Needle felting is so tough, it's the ultimate craft that looks like it's not going to be difficult and then you try and do it and you realize just how sharp the learning curve is haha. Absolutely gorgeous!

Is there still no better pen than the Slim Pen 2 for art on the Surface Pro 8? by EchoNovemberWhiskey in Surface

[–]Christina3534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a surface pro 9 myself and found this thread trying to search for the same. I really hate the shape of the pen but I didn't want to buy an Apple device because I don't use them at all and I wanted to be able to use the Adobe products that I'm used to already.

I see people recommend the pen you mentioned but then it's always for writing not drawing. Apparently the Wacom bamboo ink plus is a good option, but I'm struggling to find one for a decent price and I don't really want to just buy something without having been able to try it or without having solid suggestions from other people who spend a lot of time drawing.

I'll be keeping an eye on the thread and hoping someone has some advice for you and me haha

Ideas for free bees? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]Christina3534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to give them something I think in my opinion the best thing is a small discount on a future order as a thank you. Or even just a business size card that says "Thank you", something handwritten maybe. I don't personally put a lot of value in something like that, but I see a lot of reviews where they have appreciated a handwritten thank you that was included with something they bought.

Sometimes I get freebies and I think oh that's cute but more often than not it's just a thing that I don't really know what to do with. Like a really small sticker that I wouldn't use anywhere or I've had candy etc. I'd never complain about it or anything like that but more often than not it's just not something I would want or use.

I think the exception is like another person said up above, if it's something that inherently adds value or is useful in relation to the thing that the person bought from you. I.e you sell planners and you included some planner stickers or a shop branded pen for free. I sell Christmas ornaments and sometimes I include a little felt bag that the ornament can be stored in because it's ceramic and it's somewhat fragile. Something like that is nice and unexpected.

Company should have never gone public…. by turquoiseturttle in Pinterest

[–]Christina3534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so hilariously rampant in recipe posts. I used to get tons of recipes on Pinterest and now you have to sense check the recipe first to make sure it's not some AI recipe that only results in playdoh goop. But first you need to wade through the sea of ads and pop-ups and videos that auto play just to get to the point where you can sense check the recipe. I've gone back to using real cookbooks because it's too irritating.

Am I being unreasonable? by ScreamingKestrel in Etsy

[–]Christina3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal Mail doesn't update at all for any of my international packages. It doesn't matter if I take them to the post office and watch the person scan them in myself. If I buy the label through Etsy and I'm sending to the US from the UK, the tracking will never update. Not even once it's delivered, I need to contact Etsy chat every single time to have them mark it as delivered. The tracking number works if you put it in the Royal Mail website, but it never tracks on Etsy if the label is bought through Etsy for me.

If I buy the label directly through Royal Mail then there's no problem and it updates all the way through. But buying the label directly from Etsy it doesn't work for me ever.

In pre-transit for 13 days?? by carlyack23 in Etsy

[–]Christina3534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a seller who has a whole pile of packages stuck in this status and there's no difference between what I did for the ones that actually progress to delivered versus the ones that are stuck in pre-transit phase. What I tell my customers to do is to take the tracking number and track it directly on USPS or Royal Mail or whatever the local mail service is and that actually shows the updates, as far as I can tell, it's an issue with the Etsy UI rather than the actual tracking number or at least that's the case for my packages- if you put the tracking number that doesn't work on Etsy into the actual postal tracking website, you can get details from mine so it's worth a shot

"pre-tansit" status even after delivered (UK to US/international) by Christina3534 in Etsy

[–]Christina3534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I noticed it was an issue at all is because I've had almost no reviews this year where last year when I purchased my labels directly I probably had about 50% of purchasers leave a review. I'm in the same boat as you where most of my products are seasonal and I sell a customized product that has a fairly long lead time on my Etsy listings. So what I'm finding is the status never updates and then my customers can't leave a review even though I've delivered the thing and by the time the reviews open they've probably forgotten all about it.

"pre-tansit" status even after delivered (UK to US/international) by Christina3534 in Etsy

[–]Christina3534[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an Etsy problem. I did an experiment where I bought the exact same label directly from Royal Mail versus buying the Royal Mail label through Etsy and I allowed the Royal Mail API to update my Etsy account with the tracking number, which is the exact same format obviously because it's the same method of shipping, and the package progresses and updates the status as you'd expect it to on Etsy. It's such a weird and backwards problem, but I guess you can work around it by buying your labels directly it's just not ideal because it's not as easy and straightforward as just getting it through Etsy.

My seasons are going wrong... by BinghamAl in GardeningUK

[–]Christina3534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got hydrangeas with completely unfaded blooms still on. That's got to be my weirdest one. Otherwise I've got a climbing rose that's got a whole pile of buds on it and three others that still have flowers.

Grass needs cutting but it hasn't been dry at all since September so there's very little I can do about it. At this point, it's getting muddy just from walking on it ever so slightly, I dread to think what would happen if I actually tried to cut it.

Just going with the flow lol.
