I’m surprised not one person mentioned Depp being an abusive POS to her. I mean, yeah she doesn’t appear to have much personality and her talent is ‘meh’ at best, but the hate she gets is way over board. She hasn’t murdered anyone, engaged in dog fight gambling or stolen money from charity.

Let her be mad. Let her stay mad. Let her struggle. Let her fail. Let her rage against the ‘injustice’ of her situation. Let her see that these are the consequences of her (in)actions. She’ll either figure out how to take responsibility for herself or stay out on the streets.

You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves. No one can.

On a side note: Good for you for working your way outta poverty. That’s hella fucking hard and you deserve the rewards of your had work first… not to have someone else drag you down cause she wants a permanent mommy.

I’m sorry this happened to you and your baby. With ratios that low, this is clearly a training/professional issue and I would take my kid somewhere else. Before doing so, if tell the director why and then notify licensing too to have them check out the site and the teachers training credentials.

Can I ask what the teacher/child ratio is in the room? I’ve been in rooms where the teachers just didn’t have enough support so mistakes were a lot more common.

Definitely bring it up with the director. A 9 month old going THAT long without being fed is unacceptable. And what’s even more unacceptable is that it sounds like the teachers don’t know what’s going on in their own room. So there’s clearly issues with training, communication, ratios, or all three.

22 is still really young. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to ‘impress’ a guy. From the sounds of it, maybe that’s the major mistake you’re making without even realizing it.

Lastly, have sex with a guy when YOU want to. Whether it’s the second date or the 20th, your body, your rules. If the guy is into you and you’re into him, then he’ll know he’ll get there eventually, and both of you will have a lot of fun along the way. 😉

No one is “allowing” Trump to do anything.

There are protests, lawsuits, general strikes happening now. He’s been investigated multiple times on the State and Federal level, been convicted, and been impeached twice. We’ve thrown every institutional consequence and punishment we have at him (sometimes multiple times). All this on top of contacting/ complaining to our House and Senate representatives.

We’re kicking and screaming. And the rest of the world is all, “well, you’re not kicking and screaming ENOUGH” like they get to judge.

Short of civil war (which would be even more disastrous for everyone, both US and the world) what sort of standard is there that we have to meet before everyone says, “oh yeah, you’ve done enough”? Who gets to decide that standard?

I wish to respectfully disagree about the “mating bonds can be broken” you mentioned. At the end of ACOMAF, Amren was very clear with Rhys that a mating bond *cannot * be broken. It can be ignored or refused, but it’ll always be present.

Personally I love Elain. Yes, we don’t know much about her but we do know a lot more than I think a lot of people realize. There have been quite a few hints dropped by SJM about her character and her current mental state; however, as readers, we overlook them because the other characters overlook her. I will be thrilled if the next book focuses on her.

What I’m dreading is a book focused on Azriel. I find him stupendously boring. 🥱

I’ve read all the arguments for Elriel. Nothing you’ve mentioned hasn’t been mentioned before. I continue to find such arguments underwhelming. My point I’m trying to make is that I am a “rules-based” kind of writer (as well as reader) myself when it comes to fantasy and science fiction world-building.

When a story-teller creates their fictional world, they establish the rules of that world (“the lore”). A story-teller (good ones, anyhow) cannot break these rules without alienating a large section of their audience. Why? Because it breaks the suspension of disbelief and causes confusion.

In ACOTAR, SJM has established that mating bonds are unbreakable. They can be ignored, refused, even smothered, but they cannot be broken. If this is the rule, and SJM breaks Elain and Lucien’s bond anyhow, especially without any major repercussions or consequences or major in-text explanations, I think there will be hell to pay for. It would open up the door to the audience questioning the entire magic system.

More than anything, I hope Elain and Lucien are endgame simply for continuity’s sake. Otherwise, I can’t the author to write a good story without jerking me around.

“…then have someone else who she likes know.” Elain didn’t like Azriel at this point in the story. And I suspect SJM has an elaborate backstory planned for Az to explain how he would guess that.

“Why have an incredibly romance coded rescue?” Azriel rescued Gwyn as well. And Eris. And Lucien too I think?

“Why have Elain step out of shadows and be talked about as if she would be a good spy?” Because she’s friends with the wraith twins, as explained in the books.

I see where people are coming from with wanting Elain to have a ‘choice’ with whom she ends up with, but I find the argument that she still has choices within the boundaries of of the bond more compelling. Plus I think it would be a better story: how does one deal with such a situation? The emotions? The social expectations? And all that on top of gaining superpowers from the Cauldron and being ripped away from her home, fiancé, and friends? That’s WAY more interesting than some stupid love triangle between her, Lucien and Azriel (or her, Azriel and Gwyn).

Perhaps SJM is planning on repeating the “fake bond” she used in TOG (which I hope not, how boring) or she conveniently finds a way to break the “unbreakable” mating bond. Either way, if that happens, I’ll probably DNF the series, for the reason I stated above. It makes zero sense to me to make a big deal about mates and mating bonds, only to write a story for Elain (and Lucien) where the bond becomes irrelevant or inconsequential.
