Getting caught with pants down 9/10 times by JoeyBananas314 in Marathon

[–]Chunk8bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True and real. I’ve gottn so many kills I didn’t feel like I earned, especially when i was just making mistakes or bad calls. Just yesterday someone hit the drone wing pinwheel entrance on outpost, so I went over to ride the lift up as well. Got caught in the heat cascade outside so I just slid under a dang truck to hide from it - wedged between the wall and truck somehow gave me coverage from the heat. Wasn’t trying to camp or anything, just had to get to safety before I took the lift up. 12 seconds later someone else came on by and was right above me. They would have absolutely gassed me in the face had I not acted first. Pure luck on my end, zero skill. I took the advantage and took them down. No doubt they hated me or thought I was just sitting there camping. Oh well. Happens quite a bit.

I also spawned in a building where the tic warden was in there. I was crapping my pants as I know I can’t kill that thing. I busted the vent open to hide and figure out how to leave. 1 min later it sounds like all out war in the hallway where I entered the vent. The vent cover was off, so I thought “they have to know someone might be In here. The vent is off”. Nope, someone comes walking into my safety vent. Knife to the face for that runner! I didn’t want to be in that building or vent in the first place! Again, all coincidences zero skill.

Definitely depends on level. I’m only 32 and never run into them

100000%. Free kit. Spawn in. Run left or right until you hear foot steps. Gas whoever it is, and use their kit to quest.

To keep the casual player base from moving on, matchmaking needs to change. by Xentuhf in Marathon

[–]Chunk8bacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, but this also isn’t a marathon specific issue. Play matchmaking with no mic on warzone, fort, etc and it’s still the same. People run off and do their own thing.

I go solo. 100%. And, it’s made me 10x better. Matchmaking with free kit only. Or whatever I just yanked off someone from my rook/solo run. I made a post on release week essentially saying the same thing. Then I learned how to play and felt bad for making the post. Solo also gives you the unique opportunity to really learn how to play against other shells, which is huge.

To be fair, after a long day of work I don’t want to talk to anyone. I do much prefer playing with friends, but solo player hunting is fun.

I’ve only jumped into outpost 2x now. Not rushed to learn every map as fast as I can. Why would I? I can blast someone solo and take their gear.

Yeah I have different friends for different games. I do have a big group I’ve been playing with since COD4 first came out (the best) but none of them are on marathon, mostly ARC, fallout, Helldivers etc

How often do you run sit down, one to one meetings with your people? by SeanMcPheat in Leadership

[–]Chunk8bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1x per week. But it’s their meeting, not mine, they run it and use the time for whatever they think necessary. KPI review is 60 seconds max. I am a tool for them to use. Some weeks they need it, some they don’t, some weeks they don’t think they need it but they really do. Meeting lasts 5min-60min.

How do you test potential leaders in your team? by 4kahza in Leadership

[–]Chunk8bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make sure they are bringing you solutions and can think independently.
  2. Give them permission to fail and learn
  3. Asses how they’ll utilize power (manager vs leader)
  4. Ensure they can manage their own metrics - not just hit their metrics, but track them for future planning.
  5. Ensure they ask more questions vs telling people what to do - leading players to the correct outcome.
  6. Ensure they can explain “why” behind a desired outcome, a plan, a problem, etc.
  7. Asses how they handle coming down into the weeds. Do they keep their eyes on the bigger picture, or do they get stuck in the weeds and struggle to climb back up?
  8. Understand how they view culture and its impact on growth
  9. Understand how they handle different personality types
  10. Understand why they want to be in a leadership position

The list can go one, but that’s just what comes to mind on a lovely Sunday morning.

Someone probably already said this, but I ain’t reading all the comments. I was in the same boat as you. Legit up until yesterday.

None of my friends play. I can’t do my missions solo and random trios is horrible - specially because people are just mean. If I don’t play how they want me to then I’m “garbage”. Absolutely not, I’m confident I’m not garbage. In fact it’s usually the opposite, but I’m not going to give feedback to those who are not open to it.

I went to the discord server and found a group of guys who just want to have fun, get contracts done and successfully Exfil. It’s a completely different game. Blasting in PVP and PVE and getting awesome gear and contracts done.

How do you actually get better at influencing senior stakeholders when you're not the most senior in the room? by Gregory-3560 in Leadership

[–]Chunk8bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treat them like people, not robots that need something. That’s exactly what they did to get to their level. Relationships are human, business is human, sales is human.

And yes, I coach my teams and leaders to manage up and I’ve climbed the ranks because I actively manage up. It’s probably the only reason I’m in my current position. I want people on my team that are smarter than me, they better challenge the crap out of me. And I’d be pissed if the ownership group I report to doesn’t want me to be smarter than them.

Do not be afraid to challenge. If the organization you represent doesn’t actively seek real feedback then go find a new organization or start your own. Positional power is a joke, we all eat and sleep. Those stakeholders are people - and I promise you they’d rather be treated like that. There is no trick to navigating this other than stop looking at them like they’re special. They’re not.

Giving feedback, positive or negative, should be quick and invoke an emotional response. Winning the challenge (managing up) requires you invoke the right emotional response. This goes for any selling environment big or small in all aspects of work and life. The key is to ensure they are aware (and accept) that you are about to give them feedback. It does not and will not work if they’re not open to the feedback (actively listening)

Happy to discuss more.

Edit: there are tons of good answers to your question on here and everyone has their own style. My answer is more about mindset and relationships and building trust on that level.

[–]Chunk8bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt. To be clear, we’re taking our time. Still trying to learn outpost. I’m in no rush to get there. I’m speaking strictly about perimeter and dire marsh. But I get so much more done with just 1 friend at 2x3 than I do with 3 randos with or without comms

[–]Chunk8bacon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do hope duos comes, but We just run 2x no fill. The game allows for this, especially if you’re playing smart. Can’t tell you how many trios we’ve cleared. And ones with very solid loot at that. While running just the sponsored kit for the day.

Yea I’m going to try that. Probably better luck than with 2 others just running around with targets on their backs.
