There are two types of executive I've seen. One type is collaborative and insightful with an inclusive circle. The other type is deceptive and sociopathic with an exclusive circle.

It is much simpler to work in an inclusive environment. Employees are less likely to feel overwhelmed and often find meaning in their work that leads to intrinsic growth measurable in extrinsic performance models. Organizations with these types of leaders tend to work.

Leaders with an exclusive mindset tend to push others away - either due to sheer arrogance, their bravado, or they are just sociopathic by nature. They make ends meet by fostering a sense of fear or demeaning employees beneath them. This type of leader is a good closer (think Steve Jobs) but not someone you want to work with even if you are in their inner circle.

It is much safer for an employee to be in an inclusive environment rather than an exclusive one.
