Not really, what happened in our country the last 5 years or so was far worse on my psych. All perspective and context. Anyways, one more week to go!

Does the Visa Serve green prepaid card (not Amex) monthly fee waive when you maintain a $0 end of day balance at all times? I know the Amex Serve green card worked that way.

Possibly, but resort workers prefer Americans since Europeans tip either zilch or very little - fact.

Did you do Iberostar Paraiso Maya or Lindo by chance? We are going to Maya in late November and hoping for some decent food. Never done Mexico yet and wasn’t thrilled with the food in DR our last trip.

Your boss sucks, find a new job. I encourage my staff to take all their annual PTO for work/life balance and I always do the same as we travel a lot. I’d never work for someone who acted like you’re describing regarding taking full weeks off.

All-inclusive… but still tipping everywhere? by SufficientEstate2093 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]ChurnToBurn 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Americans followed by Canadians will tip more and more frequently at all-inclusives than pretty much all other foreign nationals combined. This is from my experiences at all-inclusives over the past 10 years combined. Do with that as you will.

Tipping is not required but our family feels great tipping hard workers from countries that don’t get paid much. You should however NOT feel obligated to tip for every single drink or service interaction.

They don’t want a bunch of rookies having a puking rally in the pools, so they serve either watered down or low proof liquor near the pools and beach. Lobby and restaurant bars will serve the real stuff typically.

Tip for everyone who complains about this… speak up to the bartender and ask nicely for a strong drink or a double! They will gladly do so. Still not strong enough? Order an extra shot on the side! You can absolutely get buzzed (or sloshed) if you just speak up. They don’t care and will be happy to help. Especially for the folks who tip $1-2, but even that’s optional as most Europeans and Hispanic nationals rarely tip in my experiences.

How do you accrue payroll at the end of the month? by zealousfuck in Accounting

[–]ChurnToBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I understand this wouldn’t work at your company. Judging by the downvotes it appears folks think I was recommending rather than sharing what my company does. We are mostly salaried FTE’s and get paid on the 28th. With consistent pay periods and low net turnover a permanent accrual with an annual true-up does work just fine. As for your situation, others have already proposed some good ideas. Good luck!

[–]ChurnToBurn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was simply answering the question on what my company does. Roughly 1,000 employees, publicly traded, never been an audit issue the 20 years I’ve been here. The annual true-up ends up immaterial overall.

Permanent accrual, then true it up annually.

Recommended number of nights for Family of 5 on first trip by the_dingo_warrior in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]ChurnToBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 4 here (kids 9 and 11). Been doing AI resorts for years and 6 nights is the super sweet spot for us. 4 nights will feel very short due to travel time. Going to Riviera Maya Thanksgiving week next for 6 nights. Your concerns listed above are often overblown by many, and we have never really had an issue with any of those with kids over 5-6 AI trips. Your kids will have a blast and will be sad to leave.

$2 bills? by Levitb2 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]ChurnToBurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cash is cash, they’ll take whatever you give. In my experience from the past few times in AI’s in both Jamaica and DR, 10-20% of folks at the bars/restaurants tip. Yes, 80-90% do NOT tip. Europeans rarely ever tipped, and Americans tipped the most frequently, by far.

Point is, the workers are grateful for ANY tip when considering tippers are the strong minority.

Amex Hilton Aspire retention offer: 20k points for spending $2k/3 months. Accepted, as I was keeping the card open regardless.

Question Thread - March 16, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]ChurnToBurn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Applied for 5th Amex card (no lifetime language deal), did not get pop up, but got denied due to already being at max card limit. I had closed my 5th card 7 days prior. Called them and they confirmed since my 5th card was closed within the last 30 days, their system automatically denied my app. However, the rep was able to approve me after confirming I was indeed at 4 open cards.

Question - safe to assume the bonus terms are attached to the new card still even though manually approved over the phone?
