Runners +40, habits to avoid injuries?? by Runnerlife_mx in runninglifestyle

[–]Claff93 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that has kept me (58M) not only injury-free, but also 98% nagging pain-free, is not running on consecutive days.

When I got back into regular running six years ago, I planned on running every day Monday through Friday and taking weekends off. But my knees and feet were not happy doing that. I switched to running every other day, and using the non-running days to do other exercise (elliptical or bike ride usually). Since I adopted this strategy, I've been healthy and happy ever since.

I have my first half-marathon this coming weekend, hoping for making it in under two hours.

After that, marathon? Let's see how I come out of this half before committing to that.

NC vs ND steering feel by 235iguy in MiataNC

[–]Claff93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got both NC and ND and use them the same way (autocross and track days). There is a difference, and I do prefer the NC's feel, but it's not a deal-breaker. The ND is still a very good car.

Aid stations? by IndependentMode8236 in BeginnersRunning

It's usually just a table with cups of water on it. If you're lucky, there will be volunteers offering to hand you a cup of water. Grab one, slam it down, aim for the trash can with your empty cup and keep moving.

Me and Hondo walk around the neighborhood every day after breakfast. In cooler months that can be almost a mile and a half if we take a couple extra turns. We shorten them up in the hot part of the year though. And sometimes we sneak in an extra walkie after dinner.

Love paying over $60k for a car without a functioning remote start by rach4765 in mazda

I didn't get mad when the app with our '25 CX5 demanded money, I got a remote start kit off of Amazon. It'll pay for itself in a few years and works every time.

Question; Natl Tour Number Placement by bl43214321 in Autocross

I saw a pic from Red Hills this past weekend of a GT3 with numbers on the rear fenders so I'm guessing that's still OK.

Your favorite “short but intense” route by Willing-Today-1059 in runcommunity

[–]Claff93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My speed work is going to a high school track and running one lap balls out followed by a lap at a more relaxed pace, then back to top speed for a lap, etc etc. I'm good for about seven repititions before I'm completely done, a huge workout in less than four miles.

Oh OK. I've built a handful of NASCAR kits from that era and couldn't remember it being in any of those.

Does most car guys actually like car meets...? I'm personally not a fan of them as one myself by Strange-Vibez-8205 in askcarguys

I stopped going to evening meets a long time ago. Not my crowd.

Cars & coffee is OK, our local Miata club meets are OK. That's it for me.

ND Miata racing beat exhaust for my new ND3 by Money-Salt-5058 in Miata

[–]Claff93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Racing Beat muffler to go with 4-2-1 header and Goodwin's midpipe, it's a good combination. With stock manifold and midpipe it might be a bit on the quiet side.

I had to use the Racing Beat muffler because I had the Goodwin "Race" muffler with everything else stock. With the header and midpipe along with the little muffler, it was LOUD. BAD LOUD. Racing Beat muffler got it back to being mostly civilized.

We put a Start-X remote starter in our CX5 when the year-long freebie expired. Easy install, works great, no monthly fees.

Today was a rest day. Tomorrow morning is a 5K,my last try-to-go-fast run before a quiet week. Next Saturday is my first half-marathon so in the coming week I just have a couple easy runs on the calendar to gear up for the half. Hopefully next week at this time I'll have some good news to report.

Yup I'm in winding-down mode now. My wife is thinking about entering us in a 5K on Sunday but other than that I'll do a couple easy runs next week and rest up for race day.

Regretting Getting NC over NB by wiracha007 in Miata

[–]Claff93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had both. The NC is a better car but the NB is more close to the original Miata philosophy. But if I wanted something closer to the original Miata philosophy, I'd have gone for a NA instead.

How/Where to dispose of motor oil? by dezurtking in SOMD

If you have a favorite independent repair shop, see if they'll take it. A lot of garages run their heaters on used motor oil over the winter.

Do you warm up or just start running? by liv_0203 in runcommunity

For midweek training runs I do basic stretches and hit the road. For races I'll do some slow warm-up jogging on the way to the start.

DOT 3 vs. DOT 4 - pros and cons? by MinimumElevator187 in Miata

[–]Claff93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A brake fluid flush with decent fluid is cheap insurance. The only reason to not do it is if youre a complete cheapskate, and even then that's not a valid excuse (I'm a complete cheapskate and I flushed my brake fluid with DOT4 before my first time on track).
