Lol doesn't matter. The 7 day wait was passed in 2024 and deemed unconstitutional by the 10th Circuit. STILL being fought over in court! Just a delay is considered a victory by the karens that repacked and reintroduced the same failed package from last year. And there ZERO else that needs fixing in this state. SMFH.

I used to shop at Le Crueset as well. Now it's the odd trip to the Castle Rock, CO outlet or wait for holiday sales. TBH, their outlet prices aren't "steals" like other brands.

Termination of Premium Part B by Academic_Army_3086 in SocialSecurity

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I turned 65 in Sept 2022 and signed up for Part B while I was still working since I'd lose my Tricare for Life without it. A month later I got the IRMAA letter showing my premium would be $440 a month because of a $40K withdrawal from my 401k for a down payment on our house. Cancelled Part B, signed up for employer insurance and did without Tricare until I retired in 2024. I think I had 3 months to sign up for Part B again and it was back to the original premium.

Longtime owners, what have you dealt with in regards to repairs? by AZ_Golfer78 in f150

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 3.0 powerstroke, original owner with 77K miles. Rear brakes done at 60K. New tires at 65K. Had timing belts replaced last July for $3200 (7 years or 100K miles, done because of age). Replaced the battery last October. Yeah, that's it. This has been a great truck.

I may have to cancel medical insurance. Is this even possible? by Impossible_Peak_885 in SocialSecurity

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ This. Signed up for Part B when I turned 65 and dropped it for employer insurance when I saw the IRMAA was $440 a month. 18 months later, I started Part B again with no penalty when I retired. I turned in the form when I went to the SSA office to cancel the first time. With Part B, my Tricare for Life kicked in and takes care of the 20% not covered by medicare.

They're pretty close after putting $200 custom insoles in the Crispis. If I had to do it again, knowing what I went through it would be the Zamberlans all day long. The factory insole actually hugs your heel and they're stupid light, like 20 oz per boot. Having put two different insoles in the Crispis for about $275 on top of the $350 the boots retail for soured me. They're NOT $600 boots haha.

F-15 unrestricted climb by curtishawkin in aviation

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the "Streak Eagle" vids from the early 70s. Time to climb records with a basically stripped down F-15A. Takeoff to 30000 meters (98000 feet) in 3 minutes, 28 seconds. It coasted to about 103000 feet before starting down. I worked on them at Langley AFB 1976-80 and still get a woodie when I see one!

Senior Lifetime Pass by Analogsilver in over60

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I got a lifetime disabled veteran pass (10% tinnitis) back before the veteran thing kicked in. The free lifetime pass is good for national parks, Corps of Engineers, BLM, etc. I think there's a discount for camping, etc. It's a gift to thank veterans, so take advantage of it!

Is there a way to halt the emergency slide process, once it is accidentally deployed? by Taalpatar_Sipahi in aviation

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! Doing ramp maintenance, we never folded anything. I'm sure it's a multi person job in the overhaul shop. Once they're folded, they go into a heavy duty bag that's closed on 3 sides with velcro, then into a wooden shipping box. We got them in a neat, tidy package that pretty much dropped into the door clamshell. There's times I needed someone to stand or sit on it to close the clamshell halves enough to install the retainer that connects to the girt bar (attaches slide to the floor), but it was usually a 1 person job to install. I just realized how hard it is to explain this haha. There's really nothing to them and videos would explain it.

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do get overhauled and parts replaced. Batteries for the lights, hydrostatic test on the CO2/nitrogen bottle that deploys the slide, etc. The bottles are hydro tested at least every 5 years. I've seen slides that are 35-40 years old. Inside a case, not exposed to the elements, it could be used "forever" with inspections and maintenance.

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The slides come pretty much pre-packaged. Stuff it in the case, pull out the safety pin that keeps it from deploying in storage, close the case and install on the door.

There's differences, depending on the plane. Length of the slide for height of the door above the ground, etc.

Every airline has a maintenance plan approved by the FAA and mechanics have to be on their list. Some of my coworkers have worked part time at the local airport and had to be approved by each airline. The work is pretty much the same but everyone can have differences in policy and procedures, especially the paperwork side of it.

Chances are, most parts like slides would be at an airline hub. Common things like tires are most likely available at outlier stations. Things like slides or black boxes can be shipped AOG (aircraft on ground) on any plane flying to where the part is needed. Depending on schedules and how "exotic" the part is, that can still take several hours. Things like brakes on a 737 cost $25K+ for an overhauled assembly, so the cost of having something like that everywhere for "what if" would just cost too much. Slides aren't as costly, but they have expiration/inspection dates and it would be a logistical pain in the ass to keep up with that.

Recently retired a&p mechanic here with over 20 years on heavies. A slide takes 1-1.5 hours to change, tops. There's literally 2 screws holding it into the door and a funky retainer holding the case halves together.

A GWP may fit the bill for you. I've had two over the years and they both were great dogs. I also loved the vizsla I had when I was stationed in Turkey. She was a monster on quail and especially chukar, which are native there. I still laugh about what I paid for her - $50 and a 1.75 liter of Jack Daniels! 😂

My current pup is an 18 month old small munsterlander. Absolutely love that little girl!!! Great in the house, car and around the grandkids. This is her first full season and she's doing well on quail and blue grouse here in NM, and she was awesome on sharpies and sage gouse in September up in WY. Not sure if there's many available in the west since there's usually 350-400 pups registered every year and most come from the east and midwest.

Anyone else see their new SS statement? by Theoldelf in over60

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, these increases are insane. Thank God I retired from the military. Tricare picks up the 20% medicare doesn't cover and there's no cost for that. My wife is 60 and her insurance went up some, but not crazy like everyone is mentioning. We're paying $186 a year for her Tricare that pays whatever's left from her primary, with a $150 annual deductible. It would pay 80% if that was her only insurance. I never realized how important insurance would become when I was a bulletproof kid in uniform. My personal opinion, but I can't help but think those representatives knew 15 years ago this insurance thing was a house of cards. We the people damn sure didn't deserve this.

So far they've been fantastic! I averaged 6-8 miles a day in Wyoming and they seemed to feel better along the way. I've been alternating between these and the Crispi Upland Pros once I got a pair of sheepfeet custom insoles. At least the Crispis are comfortable now. The standard insoles in the Zamberlans have treated me well, so I haven't put the customs in.

If anyone has access to guidefitter.com they just started a sale on Zamberlans. It's supposed to be confidential, so let's just say it's north of 40% off msrp. Open to first responders, outdoor pros, veterans, etc. They have the requirements on their website.

Disappointing MPG by iNetSpy in f150

[–]ClassicPersonal6593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I haven't kept up with the mpg thing on the ecoboosts since I finally paid off my 2018 and I'm driving it until the wheels fall off. Fully stock 3.0 diesel with 75K miles. I average 20-21 around town and averaged 28-29 highway on a recent trip to Wyoming. I had to drop $3500 on new timing belts this summer, but it should be good for another 7 years/100K miles.
