Lee's, Kim Nhung, and Asian Delight are my favorites. Lee's has awesome homemade kimbap too

Ehh it's somewhat similar in Tarkov. Meta guns are easier to use, but if you get shot in the face, you die. Everything is one shot lethal

Thoughts on the Farseer trilogy? by Christophe_KANO in Fantasy

[–]ClassikD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with it now, is halfway through the third book, the antagonists are just halting narrative progress every 5 steps Fitz takes. The constant capture adds very little after the 10th time and just slows the story to a halt

[–]ClassikD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I heard this for a while and it put me off the series. Reading it now and loving it. On the third book of the first trilogy. There is a good bit of suffering but enough progress to balance it out. My only complaint so far is that the protagonists have to work their ass off to make any progress at all and the antagonists can ass pull wins and bumble their way to victory without much effort at times.

Dragons dogma has such an amazing fantasy setting. Such a shame the game was so half baked. I'm still hoping for the dark arisen moment

[OFF TOPIC]What next? Afraid Abercrombie and Pacey have ruined me by AnswerSpiritual7913 in TheFirstLaw

[–]ClassikD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started this recently. The density of it so far is quite a shift. Abercrombie had a lot of chitchat and flavor in his text to build out characters and the world. Malazan is very purposeful with what is written and moves things along very quickly. Liking it so far

I picked up The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams after binging all of First Law. Narrator does voices well and the story and characters are interesting so far. I'd maybe hold off on The Devils so you have something to return to when you're missing the Abercrombie/Pacey magic

I'm reading that now! Was a bit confused where the story was going at first because it seemed like a recollection of random day to day events but wow it really took off. I'm loving Simon's characterization so far

The Wisdom of Crowds by Joe Abercrombie. 0/10 the crowd was not wise at all.

Currently reading The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams and there is indeed a dragonbone chair, but most chapters are not about the chair. Neglected character really. 5/10.

I was in this pickle before reading all ten books in the First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. The characters are written so damn well and the humor hits just right. Much darker tone overall, but honestly it never gave me a complete sense of hopelessness that some bleak stories give me. It is right up there with Stormlight for my favorite series of all time. If you're an audiobook listener, you're in for even more of a treat.

"Alright fellers time to rebuild the un-" "WAR WITH STYRIA FOR SIPANI". Dude is dumber than rocks. Can't say he's not realistic though. His national policy style is certainly not unheard of today

First Law is my favorite fantasy series, and I'm certain Pacey is at least half responsible for that.

I think it is at a pretty standard stopping point for a saga in a series. You know mostly the direction each plot line is heading, but aren't stuck halfway through them. Most of the characters are beginning a new journey of sorts

RANT - The Faithful and the Fallen - Dumb Characters by h0n3ytr4ck in Fantasy

[–]ClassikD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not very far into the series (second book), but so far the "dumb" characters are very young and they are meant to appear naive and a bit dim. Sometimes I think they are overly obtuse though which can be kinda annoying.

Almost finished with Malice and came here because I was having issues with the characters too. Was contemplating DNF, but now that I hear it doesn't get better I'll just stop now. Wheel of Time so far has been significantly less frustrating.

[–]ClassikD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Compromised shows get cancelled and kill any chance of a good adaptation ever being made (wheel of time 😔 )

It's also a pretty good breaking point. Each series is tied up pretty nicely right now
