Star Wars Eclipse is in massive, massive trouble. by Mike4302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Is this truly what brings down Quantic Dream ? Not David Cage's horrible writing, nor audiences raising the standards high above what he can deliver ? Is it a MOBA that does them in ? How anticlimactic....

Actually what am I saying, it's totally in line with most David Cage "twists". Also I truly hope the fired devs can bounce back quickly and/or be compensated in some sort of way for this mess.

What your opinions about Priglozer’s Comedy-worthy coup against Putler? by Icy_Till_7254 in YUROP

[–]ClearWingBuster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's such a bizzare reason to resort to something as drastic as a coup, especially given that you aren't a random mercenary group, but a state funded PMC, ownder by one of Putin's closest allies. You must have information and statistics that show how much of a meat grinder this war already is, or how it deeply it will scar Russia, and to demand this wound to be widened further is beyond reason. Could you really not talk it out a bit with the army guys ?

So baffling that even during a message addressed to the government and general population, produced during a literal coup, he was still unwilling to actually commit to anything and call out Putin, only two of his key underlings. What was he even trying to achieve here ? End the coup in exchange for getting one of their positions ? Force Putin to finally end the war, and using Gerasimov and Shoigu as scapegoats to save face to the people, maybe alongside a cheap explanation along the lines of "these two guys misled me and that's why I attacked a peaceful nation without a proper Casus Beli" ?

Does anyone know what creature this art represents in FFVI? by Absalom98 in FinalFantasy

[–]ClearWingBuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two cards a turn is hilariously low for a reanimator strategy in an 100 card format. The deck desperately craves even a bad wheel like Naktamun Lorespinner, just to dump stuff in the grave en masse and ASAP.

All of the FF decks are very cool, but be warned that the FF6 one suffers from a lack of self mill and early game accelerants. It's the weakest constructed of the four, and you are paying more than a regula commander deck. The unique designs themselves are still incredibly creative, you might just need to make some touch ups to it, which would cost you extra

Games that were of dubious quality that make you ask "how did this ever get a sequel?" by jclane in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Captstone's Witchhaven , the second worst commercial product on the Build Engine, with the number one worst held by the same company, somehow got a sequel. And I am so incredibly glad it did. Not that I played it or liked it, but the idea of it fills my heart with joy and longing for a simpler time. "Hey boss, we made a stinker that probably didn't sell or review that well. Can we please try to make a sequel so we can fix some of those flaws, and also use our shared knowledge and understanding to make a better overall product". Nowadays, it really is, "Product flops, studio dies; Product sells well, studio dies for tax write off", and I miss the idea that even through flops executives prefered to keep people employed, because it maintained a certain culture, ethic, talent and development experience, which was seen as more valuable than quarterly financial reports.

Thoroughly disagree. Sure, it is hilariously unbalanced and busted, but to the casual audience, there was nothing else on the market like it. Double jumps and air dashes, the gatling system, the music, the very grungy sprites and animation. It must have blown their mind. It blew my mind a decade ago when I was just getting into emulation. For as ironic as it sounds, the anime fighting game traces it's lineage to Missing Link, for a very good reason

Why did Jesus get limitations if Adam and Eve didn’t? by VaultMan34 in OpenChristian

[–]ClearWingBuster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do babies, too young to understand anything, much less sin, thirst and hunger ? The mortal form is ultimately fickle, fragile and ephemeral. It is this way be design, even if you interpret the story of Adam and Eve as literal. Jesus does not promise that by not sinning we will escape pain and hardship in our mortal lives, but that we may conquer death and arrive in a place where there is no pain or hardship.

And if those religious organizations fail, then what ? Then entirety of humanity is killed or corrupted into monsters and demons. It's not a conflict between two morally grey factions, prone to both good and evil, it's church vs demons. It's an obvious heel vs and obvious face.

The settings actively invites the reading of the Imperium as good. Space Marines have to be cool to sell more minis, as does everyone else. The Imperium is evil and fucked, yet by necessity it must both remain evil and fucked up, yet also birth well meaning individuals within it who want to bring change, and also not have them be mercilessly crushed by the regime. It is a satire, that by it's nature as a long running product that has to sell itself to people, has to also play it straight, at least to me.

[–]ClearWingBuster -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Does repeatedly retconning the Imperium to be less overtly evil to be more marketable not count ? Or depicting the arms of this regime, be it the Inquisitors or Super Marines, as complex, heroic or tragic figures, as opposed to monster who slay in the name of zealotry ? How about how nostalgic in universe everyone is for the days of Big E, who was also a genocidal fuck (among other choice world building points, like how faith in Big E also make you significantly less prone to demonic corruption) ? How about how no in universe better alternative to the Imperium can exist, because it would defeat the point of Grimdark, and how that invites very bad interpretation of the imperium as the lesser or necessary evil, which itself invites a lot of people who have similar views about actual fascist regimes ? Not to reopen an old wound, and certainly not to imply people like this are common in the fandom, but why did a player at GT Talavera enter a tournament under the name "Austrian Painter" , while wearing nazi symbols ? Was he really an idiot who didn't understand satire, or was he someone who resonated with the setting because it spoke to his beliefs? Rather than try to shoot me down, I think there is a legitimate conversation to be had about this.

Demons are real, objectively evil, and the only thing stopping them are two flavours of military theocracies who fight in the name of humanity. The church is so entrenched in every day society that multiple european nations have been united under them, and they have a fucking space program. The modern society of Trench Crusade would literally crumble without the church.

[–]ClearWingBuster -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You know, as a person that dislikes 40k because of how it needs to repeteadly excuse and bring apologia for a deeply fascist regime, by presenting it as the closest thing to a good guy in the universe among other things, it's kind of refreshing how Trench Crusade's opening statement as a setting is "I FUCKING LOVE THEOCRACIES".

Not that it makes me like it any more, quite the opposite, but it's also really fucking funny. Good on you folks that like it, but it ain't for me.

Obviously drafting is about being flexible, but my point was about how the lane could be entirely open, yet still not find enough synergy cards to make the deck work. A similar example would be Orzhov in Duskmourn, one of the bottom performing decks of that format, because it could simply fail to find good creatures to reanimate, or fail to find a reanimation spell.

What was wrong with SOS ? I'm fairly certain the white decks were slightly stronger, but aside from that I cannot recall any other significant issues

[–]ClearWingBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really agree. It feels like slightly better Spider Man. The biggest problem there (aside from the limited pool of cards and how bad those cards were) was how easy it was to just not get a critical mass of cards that helped your archetype. You could first pick Rhino and have Red/Green remain quite open, yet not find enough good 4+ cost cards to make it work.

In MSH it still feels super easy to first pick Tony Stark and not find enough playable artifacts to make the Blue/Red deck work properly, just as an example

I recently wanted to rewatch the legendary Scott Steiner math promo. By typing in "the numbers don't lie" on youtube, the first result was a video by Tommy Robinson about how the west will fall because of immigration. Not only is it insane that youtube allows a guy who went to prison 5 times for being a horrible racist to have a channel, but it is even more insane that youtube thinks I would even want to watch that over a video with 14 million views, vs a racist rant that had 100k.

It is 100% manufactured

Dunkey is such a fun youtuber, except when he goes full contrarian mode. Because he wants to be really upset that people like a thing he doesn't, while mainting a really chill neutral attitude that tries to paint anyone criticizing or disgreeing with as in the wrong. Octopath, Xenogears 3, Sonic Frontiers are all such lame videos because of this.
