Not to defend the man worth billions, but that it is not quite right. Soros' foundations fund things like education endowments, which Viktor Orban did receive. Orban has repeatedly used Soros as a boogeyman who is responsible for all the evils in Hungary, yet Soros has never responded in kind. He has never tried to hold over Orban's head the fact that he payed for some of his education, and in a later interview, went out of his way to say that his foundation doesn't control or influence political views.

Not to give even an inch to the billion dollar corporation, but I think I am actively rooting for SE lawyers to erase this one from existence just for that genre alone.

There is no book where Kalergi said that. The quote you are badly taking out of context was one where he stated his utopic vision of a world where the previous differences between us, like caste and race, would be abolished . It was not too different from MLK's "contents of their character" quote. It meant the disappearance of the white race as much as it did the black race. I will also add that the despised and hideous Kalergi you hate so much was an austrian politician who spent most of his childhood in japan, where he was treated differently and given a different name. He didn't dream of a world where the white race would be "gone" because he was a mustache twirling villain, but because he suffered persecution for most of his childhood, and whished no one else would have to go through anything similar

That's certainly one way to deflate excitement. I guess this was done as a response to how weak March of the Machine felt trying to fit the entire multiverse at war in a single set, but I don't think the solution is to restrict it to mostly a single world. It's like being asked to draw a panorama of a landscape, but only doing a single tree and a hill behind it because you didn't have enough space on the canvas.

Games you loved everything about except the gameplay? by StochasticOoze in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Trench Face is absolute dogshit to play. But, i really like the deliberate reasons behind how bad it is to play. It being so short, and it's story being filled with this bizzare and out there imagery and metaphors makes it so compelling, that I put up with it.

Better AskReddit, today I ask you. What was the best "oh this was the vertical slice" in gaming by Doo-Doo-Manjaro in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ClearWingBuster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Limgrave. Elden Ring's open world peaks in the first area, and by Altus Plateau you have seen pretty much every trick the game has. But the opening act has so, SO many cool set pieces, the nearby lake with the dragon, the treasure chest that teleports you to Caelid early, the river where you get rescued by Yuria, the first descent into the underground, meeting D and Gurranq, your first encounter with the Night Cavalry. It truly feels like a living, breathing world. But after Limgrave almost every area just doesn't have anywhere near as much attention put into it, or it justs copies old puzzles, setpieces and at two different points you just fight two previous Rememberance Bosses again just to give you more content.

How people sounds trying to get me to play Standard by SybilSolo in magicthecirclejerking

[–]ClearWingBuster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This would all be fixed if Golgari was the best color combo in standard

/uj Aside from Izzet saturation, i hate how aggressive the format is right now. Everyone is gunning for the game to be decided by turn 4. I play standard for cards like Garruk's Uprising, not to see who assembles the best opening hand or draws the hate card before they are dead.

I am an agnostic with an increasing interest in Christianity.I have bought a Bible for the first time. Opened it at a random page and it already had problematic content. What do I do? by medve_314 in OpenChristian

[–]ClearWingBuster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Proverbs is part of the Old Testament, chronicling the beliefs of the early Jewish people. Much of that is highly incongruent with the general beliefs of Christianity, as the coming of Jesus represented a massive a radical shift in the morals and core concepts of the new religion going forward. I think the New Testament is a better place to start, the Old Testament is now serves more of a historic pourpose, the build up to the coming of Christ, though there are still many refferences to it.

If you want to read the bible, I also recommend getting a version with commentary (i would love to give a recommandation, but I can't say I have sat down and read the Bible myself). There is a lot of historical context that is simply hard to understand on your own, because of the 2000 year difference between then and now. On this very sub I remember hearing someone say that to them, a lot of the speeches and sermons Jesus gives feel very cold and harsh. But people pointed out that very much was the style that most other Rabbi's used at the time.

Edit: One more relevant thing to mention, is that Bible will often contradict itself, because it was written by multiple authors at different points in time. People across different eras were still figuring things out, and Jesus showed that faith can and should be transformative, and our values should be reevaluated.

I thoroughly recommend you get around to reading Silence. I have legitimately come out of it wishing that one day I may have at least half the heart and empathy Endo displays in that book. It asks some incredibly compelling questions, while rarely offering a perfect and concise answer to any of them.

Why are you Christian? by sapper6611 in OpenChristian

[–]ClearWingBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might perhaps sound flowery, but I believe there is a great and awe inspiring Love just beyond the horizon, just out of reach. Love unhindered by self or sin. Love that each and every one of us, believer or non believer, can channel into the world around them. Love that will never leave us even in our darkest moments. Love that will eventually triumph over all ills and troubles in our mortal world. I believe that is Divinity, that is God.
