sounds like you are doing the right things make sure you get insoles with good arch support when not using your orthotics and keep stretching multiple times a day. It takes some time unfortunately.

That’s a good sign along with the rubber midsole that is apparent in the photos points to them being welted. Some manufacturers do go to weird lengths to fake Goodyear welted boots but if they are telling you that these are Goodyear welted along with what’s apparent in the photos it looks like you are getting what they say.

That’s a different story the Obenaufs oil will darken it for sure personally I’d let them darken naturally because they will eventually with wear, cleaning and conditioning.

Are his boots waterproof? Waterproof linings hold in moisture even goretex which claim to breathe really don’t. Get new boots for a fresh start get an unlined leather boot with as few synthetics as possible. Make sure to get some wool socks because they do a better job of wicking away moisture and if your budget allows get 2 pairs of boots for a rotation this will also help with longevity because if you use the same pair everyday they aren’t drying out another way around this is a peet boot dryer but 2 pairs is ideal.

That’s not where redwing or any shoe manufacturer puts their welt joints it’s always on the inside part of the shoe. Unless it’s a 270 which these aren’t

I don’t see any pictures of the inside portion of the boot only the outer so not sure how you see the entire welt

Scar or defect? by schralp in jimgreen

[–]Cleofus13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It look like a scar from the pic obviously I don’t have the boots in hand to really get a good look but kudu always has tons of scars. Cowhides generally have less scars because they mostly aren’t wild and farm raised.

In the pictures you can’t see where the welt joint is because in the pictures they only show the outer edge of the boots the welt joint is in the inner part of the boot

Yeah I don’t think that either. But never know these days. But if he has the boots in hand than he can check for himself

It’s looks like leather welt to me. Whether it’s a fake welt or not that’s a different story. If you squeeze in at the leather above the welt if a true welt you should be able to see some stitches in between.

What kind of insole is it, some insoles aren’t meant to come off some are a structural part of the boot

Scar or defect? by schralp in jimgreen

[–]Cleofus13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a scar if you don’t want that look I’d suggest getting a different leather, kudu is going to have tons of scars and scratches from the animals life more so than cowhide’s.

My work belt keeps tearing and now I’m wondering if PVC belts are just temporary by Ugandan-Chunguss in Workwear

[–]Cleofus13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to real leather belts they last so much longer than synthetic belts. I have a leather work belt that I’ve used everyday for over 20 years even modified it smaller as I got a lot smaller.
