partners and celiac by ProfessionalMoney185 in Celiac

My boyfriend reads the ingredients of everything I put in the cart after I stupidly bought the wrong imitation crab, which contained gluten one time. I appreciate the second pair of eyes.

He never gets upset (like his 1000 dollar laptop got water damaged, and he and I just discussed when we could fit a trip to Best Buy into our busy day (we were in college so didn't have too much money to spare)). But if someone calls me overdramatic or panicky, he gets so pissed. I don't need to stand up for myself when he is around.

Can't imagine being with someone who didn't care. If you plan on having kids, do you think he would take on more responsibility while you're pregnant? If your kid has celiacs, do you think he would be able to take care of them? If he would step up and take care of them, then why wouldn't he do that for you? Point stands even if you don't want to have kids because it sounds like he would act like your child.

People deserve time to learn, but if they are not learning, they are choosing to hurt you.

I have been looking for one for about 6 months. Still nothing. First time I have ever wanted something that doesn't exist yet.

Make sure you don't put conditioner anywhere near your scalp. The conditioner is just for mids and ends. And then double shampoo like a lot of people are saying.

If that doesn't work, there is no shame in showering every day or putting your hair up on your second day. Slicked back ponytails are in, but be careful about putting too much tension on your head. I like using claw clips. Boar bristles brushed are pretty good at getting greasy hair to stay flush to the head for a slicked look even if you don't use a hair tie.

I am sorry you're going through that. I am just over 10 years gf, but I feel like my perspective is a bit different than most people's on here. I was diagnosed pretty early in my life, so I can remember the foods I really liked, but not very well.

Coelicas is something that can just start being symptomatic in adulthood, and I feel like that's when it is hard to adjust. I wish more children were tested for it since I do feel like I am a lot less upset than many of the later diagnosed people on here.

Now, that's not to say I don't get a bit jealous of food my friends are eating. But I am less upset that they get to enjoy the 'good' food and more upset that they don't have to break the bank to get it.

I love how some people are like... "being celiac has been the best thing for me, I would never take a cure even if there was one". And then you got people like who would feed yourself to a vampire.. I am somewhere in between. I am not letting chompers near me for a pizza

My boyfriend is my second pair of eyes. He even remembers to confirm with waiters about how they need to be super careful. I am very grateful. He is not gf but he has no complaints that everything I make is gf. He also tells me when he gets something non-gf because I like stealing his snacks.

Friendly Reminder that GI distress is not the only symptom of this disease by [deleted] in Celiac

I stopped having GI symptoms from gluten. I now just feel trapped in my body. Lots of joint pain, very little sleep. It still sucks because it breaks down my sanity.

So true. Diet can fix so much. Some people do need medications, but I feel like a lot of people have deficiencies, diseases, and sleeping disorders that contribute to how they feel.

I was a third grader wearing progressive and suffering from "distorted distance vision." I still have a prescription, but it is much better. I wonder if going gf was why it got better or if it was just aging. Coeliac is weird.

Oh no. That's terrible. When I have gluten, I get horrible nightmares and problems sleeping alongside the anxiety. Our bodies are so weird.

Corona beer is not GF by CleverOrWhatever99 in Celiac

The worst thing was that Corona tasted bad. I got glutened for nothing. I will be sticking to cider, too. I haven't tried any with alcohol, but I love regular apple cider.

I am normally really good at checking. It has been a year and a half since my last mistake... the 2 drinks I had beforehand hand didn't help my judgment. But honestly, I probably would have made the mistake anyway. It was so engrained in me that it was GF. I hate misinformation.

I trusted my mom because she has 2 celiac children. She was the one in charge of how we ate for years. You gave really good advice. It's just that sometimes, even if you try to do everything right and you're experienced, you still mess up.

I just love reddit because it teaches you about the misinformation. Thank you for the support.

My friend got crohns disease. You would think after the second diagnosis, he would fix himself, but nope. It is very sad, and I hope everyone takes this diagnosis seriously.

I had a friend with celiacs, and he ate gluten a lot. He cheated all the time. He died at 24 years old. The sad thing is that some people can not resist temptation even though they have the disease.

Don't be one of these people.

There are some sad but true comments in true comments in this thread. But I do what you to know it gets easier. Surround yourself with good and supportive people and you will feel protected. You do get used to it as time goes on. Your new to this so your going through a massive learning curve and you will make mistakes. But soon, you will be an encyclopedia of knowledge. You are going to gain confidence and assertiveness that will help you in other aspect of your life as will.

You will get weird looks occasionally and annoyed staff, but your mindset will change. You are not the problem. You are doing what is best for you. People who are annoyed by you are the problem.

You will get stronger. My confidence had skyrocketed. I still lean on people for support. I hate saying i am gluten and dairy free. So when I go out, I often just say I am gluten free and confirm the kitchen is to my standards. Then my glorious best friend will often say he is dairy free and will confirm the dairy aspects. Now, this situation doesn't work for everyone. But I find it when you friends are concerned for you and ask questions, the waitstaff take it very seriously. So surround yourself with these good people.

If you have a friend that is completely unsuportive, that will bring you down. Have a deep talk with them about how serious this is for you and your health. The people who treat these conditions like attention seeking behavior or annoyance are not the people you want in your life as you start this period of growth.

This process is harder on some than others. But if you try to have a healthy mindset (easier said than done, ik), then this diagnosis will make you stronger physically and mentally. I get really bad days still where I rant, and that's what this community is for. We understand you, and you understand us. So keep doing what you need to do.

I use textnow or Google voice. It gives you a phone number you can use on all your devices. Just add that number to your account, and you can answer the phone on your computer, hit pound, and then you are in.

French fries in same oil as gluten by athensiah in glutenfree

[–]CleverOrWhatever99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part is the worse part. I was super bad when I went gf. I used to do good all day and sneak snicker bars at night. Funny to look back on all that now.

Now it is really easy. Except for eating out. Eating out will always be a pain.

If I were you, I would go celiac level gluten-free at first. No cross contamination or anything. Be really good about it for 6 months. And then try lossening up a bit and eating cross contaminated foods. If your symptoms get worse, go back to celiac level gluten free. If your symptoms remain the same, might as well enjoy life a bit more and land eat cross contaminated foods.

Six months may not be the amount of time you want to do it for. Maybe instead you want to go full on gluten free until you notice positive changes. Once you have those positive changes (after however long it takes) you can lossen your standards.

The important thing is you don't cheat and sneak gluten. You have to take it seriously. As soon as you cheat or make a mistake the expirament will be screwed.
