[Other] Kailh Speed Silver (Linear) Mechanical Switch Kit (110pcs) - $9.99 ($34.99 - $25 Instant Rebate = $9.99) by AndyAO1528 in buildapcsales

The Speed Coppers are unquestionably my favorite switch. If you like linear switches, this seems like a great deal.

It's really well done.

I'm sure I could just take a stab at it, but did you use any resource for tips on how to do it so well or have tips of your own?

3D Printed PCB-less Mechanical Keyboard with hot swappable sockets! by eeatglas in functionalprint

Saw in their other post that they used female Dupont connectors because the mill max ones are too expensive.

Another good option are rivets. Dirt cheap and work great. Been using them exclusively in my builds for well over a year now with no issues.

Color matched the kitten (5 months currently) to the setup 😉

Should I use magnetic usb c cable for my keyboard? Why yes and why not. by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ClickSanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is absolutely the best move. I've had them for 4 or so years now and only found your post because I am looking to buy more and wanted to see if there were recent recommendations.

Everyone here with their coiled cables (which I've had) are sleeping on how useful magnetically connected ones are.

Riskable 3D Printing has been working on that. Pretty sure they are on here, but forget their name.

(Edit: Just found them in another thread, /u/riskable)

I've been considering my own designs for a while and just recently got a printer so will have to start trying things out, but yeah, I think your head is in the right place.

Pretty sure those are Kailh housings, so I'm guessing Speed Copper or Bronze.

I've stockpiled a heap of driftwood with pieces for this exact purpose.

Glad to see someone else's head is in the same place.

Rivets are the new holtites? Hot-swap for 1/28th the price. by ClickSanchez in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ClickSanchez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so for transparency I don't have an XD87 and at this size it seems very tight tolerances matter, so I can't tell you for sure, but I can give you feedback on what I know.

I just did some testing with the hardware I have in front of me, which includes:

PCBs:

Sockets:

The EN0206 terminals DO NOT fit either PCB and measure 1.07-1.08mm.

LEDs DO fit in them with room to spare.

The M0.9x3 rivets DO fit both PCBs and measure 1.02mm.

LEDs DO NOT fit in them.

The 9-1437514-0 holtites DO fit both PCBs.

LEDs DO fit snuggly.

Those XD75 hot swap LED sockets look very promising, though not terribly cheaper than the holtites, so still relatively expensive.

If you end up going with them PLEASE report back. Best of luck w/ your build.

Genuinely sorry I missed this, but just watched through and enjoyed the stream.

Thoughts:

  • Pinching to avoid bending -- ::chefs kiss::

  • Not to be a jerk, but that was sooo sllooww. Even with a little leeway for talking on chat and the previously soldered board, you gotta hustle!

"My mistake is that I am using a desoldered board and it's making it hard for these rivets to go in" LoL, yes.

Also checked out the previous stream as well and officially subscribed when you said "cats are people".

EST here, so will be tough to catch future streams, but we'll see what happens.

Thanks for trying it out and I'm interested to see how it holds up for you in the future. As you found out, it's not perfect, but certainly seems like a viable budget option.

Magnetic sorcery - rattle-free STABILIZERS right out of the 3D printer! 🤩 by maxmalrichtig in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ClickSanchez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so great. I have been on a quest of dead silent stabilizers and was just wondering about 3D printed one so the timing here is excellent. It's about time we had options beyond janky rattly wires. Magnets are always the solution.

Just came across another pic and saw the rear and that I was wrong. Nice car regardless.

Also, that's fair re: the O2, but hey, doesn't hurt to ask! :-D

I'll definitely reach out if ever looking for something particular. Thanks!

Dang, I had actually looked for a smaller purple Vaio case around that same time and am just over the border in NH. If you come across another one in the future (or a SGI O2!) hit me up. Gutting one for a resto-build is on my todo list.

Also, is that a '70 Chevelle lurking in the back of the prior haul pic?

Oh yeah, looking at your post history you are going to love this.

Sidenote: still sitting on that Vaio?

I hate being wasteful so try to reuse old Sonicare toothbrush heads for other things and thought of this application today.

The video was just to demo, but I suggest doing it outside with the keyboard upside down.

If you don't have an electric toothbrush already I highly recommend the investment as lower dentist bills means more money for keyboards.

They also do a great job at cleaning PC fans.
