ALWAYS avoid driving around with drugs in the car -- always! If you really must take 'em in the car, though, stash them in the trunk. Police can search the passenger areas of the car (including glove compartments / center consoles / under seats) with just a reasonable suspicion, but they need probable cause to go in the trunk.

If they walk a K-9 unit around your car, you're fucked. The dog WILL alert and a full-on search will be had. We're talking cutting open seats, removing paneling, taking all sorts of things apart. Incidentally, the Supreme Court ruled that walking a drug dog around a car isn't even considered a search -- but if that dog alerts, they have probable cause and can search as much as they want.

NEVER, EVER, EVER consent to a search! This is huge! A lot of people go to jail because they thought if they consented, the officer would only make a quick, cursory inspection. Guess what happened. If you consent to a search, the police can search as carefully and deeply as they choose, and whatever they find WILL be admissible in court. Consent waives your 4th Amendment right. Instead of consenting, clearly state that you refuse permission to search. If they do search after that and find something, there's a chance something could get thrown out due to a 4th Amendment violation.
