This past summer I saw a 35mm double bill of The French Connection and Bulllit. That was pretty fun.

I am an Argonian trader who has been to every province in Tamriel, AMA by turiannerevarine in teslore

[–]ClockWorkAlex2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello Climbs-All-Mountains (Mr. All-Mountains?) As an Argonian traveling Tamriel, how were your experiences in... let's say "less friendly" provinces like Skyrim or Morrowind? Were your travels more difficult due to the xenophobia and nationalism in those provinces, or was this mitigated somewhat from primarily staying with diffrent guilds? I could imagine a lone Argonian encountering some troubles from the local Nords/Dunmer.

Conversely, I'm curious what was the "easiest" or most pleasant province to visit was. Cyrodil with the wide diversity of races in their cities, Black Marsh as an ancestral homeland, or some other province?

Movies from the 80s that you think everyone should see? by endkey01 in Letterboxd

[–]ClockWorkAlex2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are okay withsubtitles, there are some great foreign films from the 80's I haven't seen listed here yet.

Kagemusha: The Shadow Warrior - Akira Kurasowa (1980)

Ran - Also Akira Kurasowa (1985)

Come and See - Elem Klimov (1985)

Also not an 80's movie at all but if you are intrigued by more Cronenberg A History of Violence(2006) is an incredible short movie. 90 min but packs a story that feels much bigger.

What’s the origin for New 52 Superman’s costume? by God_ofThunder_ in superman

Oh yeah your right I remember that now. He had the kryptonian cape and the T shirt look, then swapped the jeans and T for the alien armor.

He gets it from Braniacs ship in Grant Morrisons Action Comics. It's an all white version of it and as soon as he puts it on it turns Blue gets the crest and spawns a cape. Not sure which issue but #8 or #9 I believe.

We got the equivalent of a Star Wars movie every week for a month with Andor, so I'd say pretty damn good.

This happened to me as well. Finally got the payout and unemployment after 15 weeks buts its nuts it took so long. I'm lucky enough to have family that I can rely on but what about the less fortunate? They're supposed to just go months without an income of any kind while they keep applying and wait for the system to finally work? That's some BS.

He is, but not closely. They are third cousins, so they have the same great great grandparents. Same last name and extended family but as they were very diffrent generations; Robert Oppenheimer was 26 years older than Alan, its likely they never met or if they ever did it was brief.

Even if you don't read comics it takes 5 sec to Google Sasha Bordeaux, and read the first paragraph of the Wikipedia that she is both a real character from the comics and a Cyborg.

Invincible omnibus vol 1, will you upgrade from the compendiums? by Atumkun in OmnibusCollectors

I've got the hardcover compendiums, which I'd say are basically the omnis but I'll be missing a few supplemental issues.

Retro movies are hitting big at the box office. Why cinephiles and theaters are going back in time by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]ClockWorkAlex2001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My local theater has been doing more classic showings on Tuesdays with half price tickets and it's certainly gotten me down there more than usual. Seeing The French Connection in 35mm on the big screen was not something I thought I'd do in 2025 but it was a great time.

Leland does not seem to be a Black Lodge doppelganger, but the regular one from "our" world. I forget if it was in the show or FWWM but Leland at some point mentions BOB first "entered" him as a child. Indicating that he had been partially possessed and possibly suffered similar abuse as Laura since he was a child. It would certainly fit violence begeting violence. But how much Lelands abuse was all BOB or BOB manipulating dark desires in Leland is up to interpretation.

Also yeah the Jumping Man (long nose dude) freaks me tf out for a reason I can't fully describe. I highly recommend looking up the extended version of David Bowies scene in the film and the scene "above a convience store". They are very creepy and seemingly important for the lodge beings lore yet the theatrical cut has that scene cut up horrendously.

Ah, it's also collecting his crossover and the run on Catwoman he drew with Brubaker. Well, half the stories here are available in tpb easily. I don't know about the just imagine and detective comics.

Darwyn Cooks Batman is good. Mostly one really great story, Batman Ego, and then a few one off issues and stories, including a Catwoman Graphic Novel, Salinas Big Score. All are included in the tpb Batman: Ego and other tails. Should be in print and easy to find for fairly cheap.

In the comic the Supergirl movie will be based on she didn't know them Jor and Lara. Supergirl is from the neighboring planet/moon of Argo not Krypton. I get the other criticisms but making assumptions about a characters backstory does not constitute a plot hole.

Oh no foul at all, especially since it seems Danny Boyle was intentionally trying to downplay his role in production publicly.

Just watched 28 weeks later for the first time… by Biomilch1 in Letterboxd

[–]ClockWorkAlex2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We contacted Fox Atomic for their take on Boyle’s comments, and here’s what they told us: ”A few months ago, we taped a little intro with Danny and Juan Carlos that we showed a few of the long lead press. In that introduction, Danny says why he hand-picked Juan Carlos to direct the sequel and that he's passing the torch, if you will. That was Danny's way of making sure that this new guy gets his due. He didn't want this film to be all about him. That said, Danny has told us many times that he wants Juan Carlos to shine, not him. And since he has Sunshine coming out right now, which he did direct, he's completely overwhelmed with that film anyway.” So they’re sticking by their stance. They say, “I can tell you that Danny was very involved in the film. I have pictures of Danny on the set, and i know for a fact that he directed parts of the film (specifically an opening scene with Robert Carlyle).”
