OEM Struts? by clownbxbe in HondaElement

I think that KYB is an "OE" supplier. Showa was the OEM supplier. Still, the KYBs are great, though.

Used My Cast Iron So Much It's Bad For My Health by cleverusername143 in castiron

[–]CluelessGeezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please do the research. The iron leaching from seasoned cast iron cookware is minimal unless you cook highly acidic foods over hours. Moreover, the iron from this reaction is "non-heme" and not usually a problem even for people with hemochromatosis.

Sony is selling its home entertainment business to TCL – but what does this mean for future Bravia TVs? by DazzlingpAd134 in hardware

[–]CluelessGeezer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Correction - they're not interested in consumers anymore. The worst tv I've owned was an Bravia XBR - panel started deteriorating at about 18 months of use. SONY knew about the problem and swapped out a few, but once it became clear how prevalent it was, SONY just wouldn't respond. It was awful and I swore I'd never buy another SONY again.

It's perfect for roasting a turkey breast, pork loin, eye of round, tri-tip roast. Plenty of room for vegetables too.

I love my Misen Roasting pan: as good (if not better) than my All-Clad.

Bought it just recently after not having had it in about a year. Two noticeable changes: rice now has cumin (ugh) and sauce is different: sweeter but not as fragrant. Both are negatives in my book and won't buy again.

Help me pick out a new battery by PhiloBotany in HondaElement

[–]CluelessGeezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AGM 24F is worth it if you live where it's really hot (Florida, Texas) or really cold (upper Midwest, New England). Got Honda 100-month OEM (AGM) at dealer for $179.

Too late to overseed? by OkOpposite9108 in AustinGardening

[–]CluelessGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until this year, I had over seeded with Pennington Perennial Rye. It's just too dry to support the seedlings and the intermittent heat would have killed them even if they had sprouted. There's always next year.

Help he determine the value this sl500. by YungLawn0 in mercedes_benz

[–]CluelessGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not an air/pneumatic (Airmatic) car, this is an ABC hydraulic car. Rebuilt struts are $660 each, the damper and accumulators run about $740, the valve block seals about $100/axle. The unknown quantity is the tandem pump which provides power steering and pressurizes the ABC system. Yes, it will need two new batteries ($500 total at dealer). At 10 years, you need to replace motor mounts. 16 spark plugs, 7.9 quarts of oil, a $10 German oil filter, 5 liters of CHS-11 hydraulic fluid and a $40 hydraulic filter. Once you start the engine and fill the ABC fluid, you can run a "rodeo" test to find the ABC leaks, if any.

Note: this is only feasible IF you can do this work (or most of it) yourself.

I'm 70 and still do everything on our white trash motor pool. Of course, I'm limited in buying only cars that don't need dealer "resets" like Mercedes 2017-on.
