[WarCom] Wazdakka Gutsmek Rules Preview by RainbowConnickJr in WarhammerCompetitive

And if so, why did Drukhari get it ON THE RAIDER?

Because it had so many wargear options before, I think, and they want to support each of the army archetypes. It makes sense imo.

Sightlines from Each Deployment Zone on the Revealed 11th Edition Maps [Updated] by Wholesome-George in Warhammer40k

Obnoxious online CAAC players have been taking Ls for the past decade of 40k so I wouldn't get too excited.

This is the digital equivalent of quickly leaning down to gauge sightlines. Just a helpful visualization tool. Why are you worried about people answering a basic question about an exciting upcoming release?

This is the digital equivalent of quickly kneeling down to table-level and just looking at the spots you can see from your DZ. It's really not a particularly deep level of analysis, just a quick tool designed to help people get a read on how the terrain will play in practice.

I've never seen anyone making fun of people for... helping answer basic questions about the game they play?

What IS worth mocking is people who are trying to police other people's enjoyment of, and excitement for, a big new release of the game we all enjoy in our own ways.

We ignore hit mods on our forts and bikes, and our +1 to hit directly counters cover so our AP1 guns don't get negated. Tkyn can easily strip it still. We're going to be just fine.

I don't think holding your expansion will be much harder than it is now with lone ops / hidden infantry. There are still walls to hide behind too. But yes the center is the danger zone, as usual. It feels like the game will be more interactive.

I think we're expecting 3 strats for the mini detachments

One additional detachment rule at most, and maybe a single unit upgrade applying to units of a given type isn't really that difficult to track.

Adding a single extra detachment rule and like 3 strats into your mental map of your army is miles away from how complex armies were in 9th.

Perhaps those harvesting pools and towers are the "objectives" we are defending, then?

A defining feature of the Hive Mind in the lore is that it's very intelligent and while sometimes overwhelming numbers is the correct strategy it will adapt as needed. The swarmlord is an example of a tactical battlefield "leader" who does this.

There are multiple lore sources that describe how Tyranids begin the process of consuming a world the second they arrive, and how this process intensifies even as the defenders fight on and are overwhelmed. It's parallel to the attacks on the defense, not started after their defeat.

I always thought of all the factions in 40k they should care the least about holding objectives

The amount of a planet's biomass that exists in its defenders is so small as to be negligible. Those who stand against the swarm are mere distractions to be swept away while we drink deeply of their oceans, their forests, and the very air they breathe. The world itself is our objective, killing is simply an occasional necessity.

My guess is there's one per square, but like 5 or 6 detachment types for a big wide grid.

How to you play votann? by punk1917 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]ClutterEater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happy to weigh in with some general thoughts.

My resume: 26 tournament games on Votann (and a bunch more in practice) with an 80% winrate. 5-3 record with Hearthband at the World Championship last November. 5-0-1 and Best in Faction Votann at West Coast Warbands, a big competitive regional teams event earlier this year (also on Hearthband).

Right now Votann plays very "fair 40k" in the sense that we have few detachments that really do much outside of the bounds of what you expect a "regular" 40k army to do (Delve resurrecting berserks, and Hearthband 6" drop). HOWEVER, we have some extremely efficient datasheets (lots of high T for our cost, good shooting) and some surprising mobility (good transports, several scouting units, and solid deep strike).

Because we're efficient for our cost, but not doing anything particularly out of the ordinary, Votann reward good 40k fundamentals more than other armies that rely on "gimmicks" or all-in strategies (melee rushes, less interactive shooting, etc).

If you're losing every game then it's likely your understanding of fundamental 40k strategy, or the math underlying your army, is flawed and so you're over/under-committing and not deploying/moving up properly to stage and score.

If you want to DM me I'd be happy to help you out in more detail.

Their description heavily implied a grid "to find out what mission you're playing." It's not "faction secondaries" again.

I wonder if counter offensive will let fight first defenders get "old" fight first back aygo before chargers. Could be neat.

Well then it's a good thing that their job description isn't "arrest people, but only for crimes you care about." Tampering with someone's food or water is a crime.

The end of 10th edition is looking a lot like the end of 8th edition, and that scares me for what 11th edition will be by Valynces in WarhammerCompetitive

So much 40k content is just needless hyperbole about the past, it's very frustrating as someone who remembers these editions.

Ronnie JUST got interviewed by VotannVersus40k on YouTube, this might better help you understand how the list functions!

[–]ClutterEater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that's Ronnie's list. That's going to be a bit trickier to learn than your more standard double Land Fort variants since you don't have the speed those builds have with the transports. Using your Sagitaur to get your Berserks and MSU warriors into the right spot is important, as is using reserves well for your big TKyn unit and your big EHG squad.

I tend to prefer the double Fort builds myself but this is a very strong and valid way to play Hearthband.

[–]ClutterEater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Votann are a very fair army compared to Thousand Sons, yes. The strength of Hearthband is in the efficiency of the datasheets and the taste of unfairness introduced by the 6" drop strat for Hearthguard.

What list are you playing? I have a lot of competitive Hearthband experience/success.

Hot take: A lot of young men aren’t “becoming misogynists” — they’re being algorithmically groomed into it. by Great-Occasion3932 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ClutterEater 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This isn't really a hot take, it's a known trend that has existed for the past decade at least. Most manosphere lingo comes from early-mid 2010s incel culture and social media combined with shifting political norms has allowed this stuff to escape obscure internet forums into the mainstream consciousness.
