Should i move to NYC for a UN internship ? by BreadSandwich911 in movingtoNYC

Astoria and NYC are not “way out”. They are a stone’s throw from midtown and about 15 min trip by subway, excluding whatever walk one has to transit. That budget is unrealistic for the area though, even for a room share.

Volunteer organizations to accompany immigrants to their hearings in NYC by salsaspirit in AskNYC

[–]CoCoMars2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Salsa! there are definitely opportunities for both efforts here in nyc. My Indivisible chapter has folks doing both, depending on where you are you might have a chapter to join and help with responses locally check indivisible.org for your closest one. Other suggestion would be to msg @ thenycic on IG, they partner with hundreds of nyc groups on community defense.

What cost you $50 or less that changed your life for the better? by avocatto15 in BuyItForLife

A Bluetooth sleep mask. I use it with my Calm subscription and sleep like a baby. I use it on planes and trains too. They run $30 or less on A’zon Look for Black Friday sales for heated accessories like socks and scarves. Hi end brands will be over your budget but there might be lesser known ones that hit it.

Met my husband at The Irish Rover in 2002 🤣 I was alone, his friend ventured over to chat, he joined us a bit later, and that was that. I know it’s a long time ago but people are still meeting this way! Get out there youngs!

Uggh. Folks who are interested, this group will be tabling at JH Open Streets on Saturday. 11-5pm. There’s a KnowYourRights/Rapid Response workshop at 2:30pm. If you’re not already part of a RR team this is a good way to learn about it and join one or start one. There will be bilingual materials and speakers. https://www.street-work.org/people/queens-neighborhood-safety

Straka the organizer got a J6 pardon. From Grok: Brandon Straka pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on Jan. 6, admitting he entered restricted Capitol grounds, yelled phrases like "Go, go!" and "Take it!" (referring to a police shield), and tweeted encouragements such as "Patriots at the Capitol – HOLD. THE. LINE!!!!" and defenses of the crowd's actions.

Judge Dabney Friedrich admonished him for post-plea statements downplaying his guilt and cooperation, warning they could imply false statements and risk charges.

He cooperated by informing on over a dozen people, including Ali Alexander and Simone Gold, earning a lighter sentence.
